@AaronLeeJohnson TylerTube on Youtube reviewed it and it was generally pretty good tape, with the big downside that the adhesive didn’t stick under wet conditions. So forget about using it to repair say a pool or hose that is actively leaking, but it looks good for stuff like air mattresses with minor holes.
@AaronLeeJohnson@Alereon I can confirm it’s useless for patching wet things like covering the underwater hose connections to winterize your pool. But it did work surprisingly well to keep the Styrofoam beads from leaking out of floaty with a torn seam.
@Kyeh@phendrick That one goes away back - I remember my dad reciting it when I was young. Only his version was:
“A skunk sat on a stump.
The stump thunk the skunk stunk.
The skunk thunk the stump stunk.”
@katbyter Like almost all adhesives tapes, it won’t adhere >>to a wet surface<<, but if surface is dry, e.g. a pool floatie with a tear/leak, and you apply >>while dry<< and let sit/set, then inflate and use it in pool, it will work fine. Similarly you could use it around exterior window trim to seal out water during a hurricane, or at bottom of a shower to keep water from leaking out of shower pan if it wasn’t caulked correctly. It just has to be dry and allowed to set before getting it wet.
I took a roll of it out of my closet to evaluate, purchased a little over a year ago. The tape is shipped in zippered plastic bags that aren’t polyethylene, it’s stiffer and very clear. The tape itself is thick and relatively stiff, and I’d expect it to be unable to conform to surfaces that are irregular or have sharp corners. The adhesive feels less sticky than 3M packing tape, and doesn’t even approach the levels of adhesion of good duct tape. I can’t address the permanence of the adhesive, as I can’t recall any places where I’ve applied it as a permanent patch.
@krez56 Was that the double-sided version, o think it’s called the Alien Nano tape? Or is there a way to use this to stick things like that to vertical surfaces?
I’ve used a couple of pieces of this for applications around the yard/shop. So far I’ve been pleased with the results. I keep the extra five rolls inside the house so they won’t get as hot out in the shop, but the roll I keep out there seems to have held up through at least one Alabama summer. Actually did a leaking hose repair with this and while it didn’t stop it 100% it’s now barely oozing out so in a 90 minute sprinkler run I probably lose a couple of cups of water max.
TL:DR I like it.
Am I the only one surprised that there’s still a Mazda Miata driving around somewhere? When was the last one of those made? (At first, I was even more surprised until I realized I was thinking of the Pontiac Fiero.)
@bmajazz@lisagd@PooltoyWolf This past Saturday, I took possession of a 2005 xB with a stickshift. It may be the only thing I will smile about this week.

How does it compare to Flex Tape? I have it on good authority that it does this as and does it well.

I use this stuff on furniture corners my cats claw on & the dog rubs against- it stops the claws and wipes clean while being completely unobtrusive.
have yet to try it on body bags, but it’s not Thanksgiving yet.
i just might encounter some aliens that’ll need taping up.

@mediocrebot uhh … not my intent.
And what kind of crown is that?
Why are the hands reversed? (Are we seeing two species of aliens?)
@mediocrebot @phendrick From the green guys’ point of view, that beige one IS the alien.
@mediocrebot @phendrick the hands aren’t reversed…his head and legs are!!! Oh the humanity!
@Kyeh @mediocrebot Relativity says it all depends on your point of view.
Reminds me of a tongue-twister i learned as a child:
“A skunk sat on a stump.
The stump said the skunk stunk.
The skunk said the stump stunk.”
@mediocrebot @phendrick That’s pretty twisty.
@Kyeh @phendrick That one goes away back - I remember my dad reciting it when I was young. Only his version was:

GARBAGE! Tried using this on a water pipe.

@aa040371 @katbyter So, you’re saying it has to be dry?
@katbyter @macromeh No, not >>saying<< it.

Is it temporary or ultra-durable? How can it be both?
@katbyter This isn’t hard to understand…it’s both. Read up…

Many adhesives have shelf lives. Are these nearing the end of their shelf life?
@IAMIS I’m guessing that after today, some number of them will be taken from their shelf and shipped off to various locations to start a new life.

@werehatrack At the recommendation of my contractor, I used it to attach solar lights to the vinyl posts of my deck last spring. Still holding firm.

Not from Phil Swift. Meh.

@lisagd Mazda still makes the Miata/MX-5.
@lisagd I drive a 2001 Miata daily. They’re very simple cars and generally reliable.
Oh, and they are a joy to drive. I’ve not driven another car that is as fun. Older ones are cheap to buy, cheap to maintain.
@PooltoyWolf is right - they still make the MX-5.

I’ve used this to fix holes in my linoleum floor (temporarily) and it lasts pretty long. This tape is very thick. I’m tempted to get more.
