They do a good job of skimming off much of the layer of (mostly white) fur that my cats try to cover my wood floors and area rugs with. A very good job on the wood and maybe 80-90% on the rugs. I still need to use the Dyson about once every two weeks.
@ChadP But, they're using it the right way - on the floor. The injuries were caused by people putting the bumbo seats on tables, chairs, counters, etc.
@xarous already have two (albeit 530's instead of 560's). My cats refuse to ride on the roombas and my gf won't let me try to train her little dog to sit on it (probably wouldn't work anyway).
@Fej I like the idea, I just wish they had slightly cheaper and more sensible things that most people would actually want two of, like surge protectors, Xbox controllers, burgers, chairs, towers, etc.

My girlfriend has been saying for the last six months that she wants to have roomba fights: secure a knife to the front of them and tape a balloon to the back before turning them both loose.
@clyde2801 Have you ever seen Robot Wars? They started at Sci Fi cons years ago with just such an idea. They were a lot of fun to watch in the old days when people were making them out of household appliances and found objects. Like most things, once people started to monetize it all the fun evaporated.
Oh. I did say that she's been WANTING to have roomba fights, so I emailed her the page.
And if she does it, I will certainly video it. But not in my house. I'd be worried that they'd trash the furniture, or worse yet, learn to communicate with each other and start Skynet.
Ironically, the more I try to describe her, the more made up she sounds: total geek gal with four(?) laptops and an engineering decree who loves to watch the Seahawks at Buffalo Wild Wings and is also dying to buy a remote controlled helicopter drone with a camera.
I've had a Neato, and I've had several Roombas. None of them last very long. They don't do a perfect job, either. The key to longer life seems to be to use them a lot, which having two of them would make less likely. Sorry, Meh, but this is an idea whose time has not yet come, at least in our house.
All the cat stories prompt me to add another comment. Several years ago, when we had a Roomba, it was sitting in its little robot house, having breakfast. One of the cats must have believed it would be a good resting place. The cat jumped on it, interrupting the Roomba's meal. It started up, and the cat jumped straight in the air.
If I were sure this would happen every time, I might buy another Roomba, just to annoy the cats.
I still have a refurbished 510 bought from that other site that used to be similar to meh, sitting in the basement waiting to be re-refurbished. The cliff sensors went bad and it just backs up constantly thinking it's going to fall until it gives up hope, plays a sad tone, and turns itself off... I looked up how to replace the sensors once, it looks complicated.
I have to meh on this because I just got two of the Neatos a couple weeks back. And I love them. And I want to get two more Neatos for xmas gifts for people. If they don't show back up on Meh soon, I may have to go to Amazon. :(
Ok, got my roombas yesterday. Ran one today and, surprisingly, it made it through my whole apartment, into and out of each room and home to base. Ran for about 50 mins and looks pretty thorough. Dustbin was totally full. Did especially nice work on the bath and kitty litter mats in the bathroom.
It's no Dyson, but I'm pretty impressed with how it did. Ran over mats, cord piles, onto laminate/tile and back from carpet. Didn't need to set up either of the virtual walls. Got under my reclining couch where it could, worked its way around boxes, chairs, and other piles of junk. Great deal!
For all of those saying they already have it or it doesn't compare to a real vacuum cleaner. First, we bought this for my daughter and my step-daughter for Christmas. They love ours and always want to steal it from us! Well now they will have their own and this was a GREAT price! Second, NO it's not a big vacuum cleaner, but it's EXCELLENT for doing those small daily jobs so you don't have to sweep. We have a fairly large house at 2600sqft with 2 Laboradors. They both shed at different times of the year... that's is pretty much hair all the time. This works out FABULOUS! We would have to sweep EVERYDAY! We each drive an hour one way to work, he works a second job 16 hrs a week at home and I also teach classes at night 2-3 days per week and usually don't get home until late. Our roomba sweeps the floors for us while we are at work. Otherwise, we'd have to vacuum or sweep EVERYDAY when we get home. This saves a LOT of time and is the perfect gift for those who have busy active lives.

@Malus The Neatos are horrible. I sold the one i bought on meh. Back to Roombas. Don't get stuck nearly as often. Battery lasts 5x longer.
