@chaynie thas why it's so expensive... underneath the 30pin hood is a lightning connector! (or .. I messed up and called the cord a lightning cable when infact it really was only a very short 30pin apple cable) ... votes?
There she is, that dirty fucking temptress. Twofer Tuesday finally found her stride and is peddling her shit. Well in for three sets of two for no fucking reason!
@studerc I may have to order more, one set at a time, because the order name is half the fun. That means we can get six things on three orders of two each, all with ghastly imagery, Yup.
@studerc You seem to buy the max of every deal… is your plan (a) to single handedly pay the salaries of everyone at meh and when you have done that their rent?, (b) have lots of cool prizes for kids at school?, (c ) have junk to put in the meh exchange? (d) go though all your money as fast as you can so you can experience life in a cardboard box under a bridge (but at least you won't be in the dark - they need to sell tents and sleeping bags for this plan though), (e) there is no reason as you are a secret hoarder? (f) something you will enlighten us with if my survey choices are not relevant - like maybe gifts for aliens or … ???
@Kidsandliz Probably about 80% of my purchases are for reselling. Twofer Tuesday gives me the best overall profit margins. Helps to supplement my meager teacher salary. Of the other 20% only about 10% is actually stuff for me, the rest is usually for school prizes and gifts. Those earbuds yesterday were awesome. Kids love earbuds and they were cheap enough for me to afford. I was kinda hoping they would be the twofer Tuesday so I could get even more. Alas, this was not meant to be.
@studerc well since I am often up and almost never buy anything since christmas is past, let me know if you want me to buy something for you and then you can reimburse me. With luck Meh could ship it straight to you.
@Kidsandliz Haha im still banking on @snapster starting a frequent buyers program or some perks for purchasing so much inventory. It would be super cool to see a loyalty program such as that.!
@studerc well, then, Twofer Tuesday might be a "temptress" for you, but it certainly is not"for no fucking reason!" Don't feel guilty about the profit motive! That's one of the best reasons! Carry on.
@RedOak It just kinda stuck actually. As @JonT has noted, this short blurb is kinda my thing now. Every post has something along the lines of "dirty temptress" "shit peddling" "no fucking reason". It wasn't until October that I decided I could profit off all this shit. $1300 later...haha.
@TheCO2 I got a total of 70 of them. Cost me $16, so far I've sold about 10 of them and profited about $50, they will be a slow burning candle of profit for me. After awhile I'll probably bundle them off just to get rid of them.
Between trying to fix some stuff under the sink and the very rare occasional power outage, this stuff will probably get used more than my usual purchases do.
@wisenekt those solar outdoor garden lights work well for stuff like that too and the lumens are about the same. When I lived in northern Idaho and power went out a lot I'd just collect them up from outside, hang them from the chandelier, banister, knobs on the cupboards in the kitchen… had about 6-8 hours of light before I"d have to take them back outside again to recharge.
@Kidsandliz I have to admit that I purchased, canceled and then purchased again. While this may not be the blinding lantern that everyone is looking for, when it is dark any bit of light will help and that is what it was designed for. I am also starting to get a little older so perhaps this will come in handy for those late night trips to the bathroom without totally blinding myself awake when I turn on the light.
@unixrab do you have any hobbies? May I recommend needlepoint, whittling, or calligraphy? You have a lot of energy that I think could really be channeled into something positive.
@unixrab That's what I'm talkin about! But if you two are too squeamish to hug it out in person, I'd be willing to arrange a hug-by-proxy. I could hug you on behalf of @JonT and then I could go hug JonT on behalf of you. What a nice person I am!! And not at all creepy!!
I live in tornado alley, our power goes out ALL the time in the spring... Good thing I found meh, to keep me stocked up on AA batteries, and now light!!!
Wait 21 lumens??? Comparable models put out 200-300. Yeah they cost $20-$35 but I'd rather spend more and get a mini sun shining where I need light. Sad to say I am canceling my order.
@unixrab I was trying to justify the VMP (Not that I'll actually be canceling my membership anytime soon) so I made my decision on the simple Fact that 2 for $10 shipped isn't so bad, and that 150+ were sold in a blink. Then I dug in deeper and realized just how crappy these are. Here is one at Target with more Lumens and run time for only $5.99:http://m.target.com/p/evr-led-mini-lantern/-/A-14778717
@eyewerks I have more head lamps and flashlights than I know what to do with, don't need more Meh ones around. I'll spend more and get a better one, then light up the entire god damn casino floor.
@Stallion From the manufacturer's web site: "Before Using Your Flashlight: Please read all instructions and cautionary markings on the package and light". Apparently you can hurt yourself with these.
15-30 lumens: General household indoor use, moderate range outdoor use ( a few yards); this is the light range that the 2 D cell plastic light with a prefocus bulb generates. (from the web)
"Goethe’s final words: “More light.” Ever since we crawled out of that primordial slime, that’s been our unifying cry: “More light.” Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlight. Neon. Incandescent. Lights that banish the darkness from our caves, to illuminate our roads, the insides of our refrigerators. Big floods for the night games at Soldier’s Field. Little tiny flashlights for those books we read under the covers when we’re supposed to be asleep. Light is more than watts and footcandles. Light is metaphor. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet.” “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” “Lead, Kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom — Lead Thou me on! The night is dark, and I am far from home — Lead Thou me on!” “Arise, shine, for thy light has come.”
Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light.
Lets see. You can drop it six feet. Its waterproof. It floats. It has 3 brightness settings. 340 Lumens. It has a pointless red light with SOS setting. You can hang it from either end. You can take the top off and hang it upside down to light up your whole tent.
Oh, Lifetime warranty.
I don't care that it isn't 5 bucks. Its 16 times the lumens for 8 times the money.
Ordered a pair so I could get a cool order number. However, placid-passive-tent is not especially cool. Good thing these lamps are Boyds Bear compatible or I'd cancel.
@unixrab Nah, I just looked at the relative brightness in the pictures, and felt for how much each would make my wife hurt me if I bought it... But thanks for your vote of confidence that I could do ciphers and gosinta's....
@unixrab No needs to be feeling the bads, I was no offended, just playing along. But I guess I must be culturally stunted because although I see the "Bath!" posts from time to time [OK, daily], I have to admit I don't understand at all to what it is referring.
@PhysAssist You sound like my sister… if it is a flashlight she owns it. $300 tactical ones. Dollar store ones. Ones we all have given her, or my mother which she has then swiped from my mother. She believes a household can never have too many flashlights. She does not live where there are hurricanes or even that many tornados, no earthquakes…She needs a 12 step program for flashlight addiction. I gave her one of the $3 headlamps from here for christmas and she already had several she had bought a couple of years ago.
@unixrab Yes it is probably accurate and calculated on a 2D plane. It doesn't light directly underneath and directly above so it's only referring to the horizontal plane.
@cengland0 it looks as if it would be several horizontal planes, from say about 20° to about 150° ... the description is selling itself short...and is @redoak correct in saying "hemispherical illumination?" Seems it would be "**multi-plane 360° illumination" (with a disclaimer that it's not full spherical illumination)
@RedOak I don't think you can get any full hemisphere from bisecting it on any plane... I'd go with "partial-hemispherical illumination on several 360° planes" thoughts?
@unixrab Since it appears some light might be cast downward from the "horizon" (bottom) of the hemisphere, the beam shape actually appears to be greater than a hemisphere. Think of an orange where someone has carved out a very flat cone from just below half of the orange.
"modified hemispherical illumination" would be OK, but I'd prefer "extra hemispherical illumination" or perhaps "super hemispherical illumination" to reflect the greater than hemisphere light pattern. In any case, "360 degree illumination" is inaccurate or at least imprecise.
But I could be all wet since I'm relying on a mushy brain containing foggy 30 year-aged education.
@RedOak no no... the completely solid opaque handle above and below the light source (i.e., the handle/top and the mirrored(!) base/below) both would interfere with a complete and (half?)full hemisphere of unobstructed light
@unixrab Aha. OK, yah, that might create a bar-shadow, depending upon whether the LED light source defracted around it, causing it to "disappear" in the light-beam. The opaque shade might actually help the light to defract around the handle. Have we killed this exercise yet? ;-)
@RedOak I think so... there can be no complete full hemisphere of light, save for the chance of defraction, albeit for a surety there would be a definite cone of light in at least 2 and possibly 3 directions.... I think that the description should have been a little more accurate than to blithely say "360° illumination" ... tacky. ;-)
Tent camping. Trying to change clothes and get into a sleeping bag while using an eye blindingly bright headlamp is not efficient. These little lights are great for illuminating the inside of a tent while you prep for bed. Nope, you probably can't read by it, but it also does not turn you into an erotic shadow show for people at adjacent campsites. They are cheap and I can send them out with my Boy Scout and not obsess about whether they came home. They are also great in the RV when trying to get an early morning pot of coffee started and not turn on the overheads and wake up all the sleepers. Headlamps are my favorites, but sometimes you just need a soft light rather than piercing beams. Now do I need MORE of them?
@Pamtha Yeah, I'm surprised to see so many people slamming on the brightness of these. There's a time and a place for blazing electric sun, and there's a time and a place for something else. If you need to pop out of the tent for a little while, you don't want to lose all your eye dilation and spend the next 10 minutes readjusting to darkness.
Meh... the local Five Below store carries some similar for 5 bucks each. Yeah, might not be quite as bright or last quite as long, but they are led and light sufficiently. If this was two-fer for $5, I'd be in for 3, but this just ain't worth it for me.
@Relleluck unless you are in Texas the rest of the free world is not paying taxes and if you are VMP no shipping either, so I think I spent ten bucks pretty wisely
Broke down and picked a couple up for my dog Steve. He is a 90 lb Shepherd/Chow that is terrified of thunderstorms and lord forbid if the power goes out. I figured I'd keep one by the bed so when it storms, he'd have a night light and it will hopefully calm his furry ass down.
My conformation "number" is Dogged-Trustworthy-Comfort.. How the hell did Meh know Steve needs a light on at night during a thunderstorm??? Just a little creepy!!
This was a sweetheart of camping/mobile/work light flexibility if you grabbed it before Lowes killed it recently: - Lithium Ion rechargeable (110v prongs built into base) - AA battery alternative base - Focus-able flood/spot with area mode - Removable snake neck, magnetic base Started at $39, but we paid $14 and $7 each for them.
@jrwofuga I believe this comment is safe this far down into the thread... I haven't quite determined where "sea level" is yet...but safe to say this one is way below the deletion threshold. Kudos!
The power literally went out at my house for the first time in 8 months today for 2 hours. The coldest day of the year. Luckily I bought a generator for the snowpocalypse that didn't take out our power. And now I will have 2 ridiculously low lumen lanterns so I can barely make out the coffee table before I slam my knee into it.
I have one of these in purple. It's a decent little lantern and totally worth $5. I've taken it camping multiple times and keep it handy in the house in case of a power outage. I think I may have broken the handle trying to get clever with how i was hanging it, but that was mostly my bad. I might just get a couple more...
I have one of these in silver, branded Eddie Bauer. I don't have any recollection of where it came from! But it still works well for occasional use. I would say it's not enough light to read a book or play cards by, but it's plenty bright to, say, change clothes in a tent or brush your teeth. A set of alkaline AA lasts a long time!
If my Mom didn't give us LED flashlights and lanterns the last 3 Xmases I'd totally buy these for the kids. Oh, I should mention these counted as her useful gifts, she got us a lot of other stuff as well...
@scampbellucf I got my notification that they had shipped and would arrive at my TX home (15 miles from Meh HQ) on friday...you might still have a chance for a mediocre lit campout...
@tightwad I got my tracking number yesterday, but not expected until Saturday. Oh well, they will still come in handy, just not for this trip. Thanks for the update, though.
yea, kinda sad at the speed meh is shipping products. all seem to take much much longer then expected. ordered this on the 24th, and didnt ship till the 3rd? figured ordering it on the 24th for a camping trip this weekend was enough time, but nope, looks like mine is also getting delivered Saturday. weak. very weak. however, that damn sock was sent quick lol. wtf
Hey everybody, it was brought to our attention that there was a bit of a shipping mix-up and people that ordered these Eveready lights may receive an Insteon camera instead. We're looking into the cause and how many people are affected and we'll have more information and a solution for you on Monday.
@JonT Count another cam here. Funny thing is I told my son it was something for him and his sister for camping and he guessed camera. After a snicker and a tutting "guess again", opened to find a camera!
@Cirrius Thanks. It looks like I'm getting a camera, too. I wonder what happened to all of the lanterns? I don't see any, who ordered cameras, complaining about receiving lanterns.
@JonT I got a much bigger ass kicking from my wife when the camera came then I would have gotten from the lights. Had to show her this thread. Anyway, the camera is pretty cool, it doesn't mix with my present security system but will work to watch the pets when out of town. Just put the lights back up on Tuesday! I promise to buy them.
@JonT It's alright. I've been considering buying an IP Camera... just wasn't quite ready to get one yet. You may have just solved my dilemma. And inspired me to keep my MVP going. MEH FTW!
@JonT I got the camera and talked myself into thinking that I actually ordered it. Had to check my Meh records to confirm that I did not. That's some next-level marketing, Meh.
@JonT I ordered the lights, but they haven't arrived yet, either as lights or as cameras. Perhaps I'm too far away here in ME to get timely SmartPost delivery. (Well, I knew that already...) In fact, I see they aren't due here until the 12th, based on tracking info.
@JonT Do I have the option of ordering a second one at that price point as well if I wanted to? The form lets me, but I wasn't sure if it was actually possible or not?
@JonT I've been considering monitoring my cat while I'm at work. I also don't have a peep hole in my front door. I've received two cameras, and will happily pay for them. Yay!
Now I'm wishing I bought the lights. I would rather have the camera for the $10 price paid. I wouldn't have paid the prices Meh was asking for the camera but for $10, that's a good deal.
I ordered these and when they came in the mail... I got a Insteon WIFI camera?!? They retail for about $80 so I guess from that standpoint I got a good deal. Unfortunately, the camera isn't worth the $10 I paid for the lanterns...
I also got a camera instead of the lights in my shipment. I made two purchases of the lanterns but I have only received one box so far. Will be interesting to see what is in my next box! Smile I wanted a set for myself and then talked my Dad into wanting a set as well. Hmmmm Did he get the camera or did I?
According to MEH I also was shipped the camera but my actual order did not ship until Wed 3/04/2015 and it is still in transit to my location... Who knows what I might have received then!
Just got the email "Oops, Meh sent you a camera instead of two lamps" from Mediocre Labs. I'm glad they're sending out the lanterns today, so thanks for that.
The email also says "...we're still figuring out what to do about the cameras. Keep an eye on your Inbox for the proverbial "further instructions" in the next few hours.", so we'll probably have to send the camera back. Good thing I resisted the urge to set it up over the weekend to monitor my pet!
So...I got an email that I'm probably getting a camera instead of lights, but does it matter that the FedEx tracking just says "No estimated delivery date available at this time" and its been stuck in Carlisle, PA for a few days?
I'm fine with waiting for whatever is actually in the box -- just wondering if anyone else's stuff is stuck somewhere.
@applesticker I had something bouncing around Mississippi. After being there for a few days, it just made it into Tennessee. (I live in PA... nothing has ever gone through MS before).
You may have noticed by now that we screwed up your order of the two-pack of Eveready Compact LED Area Lights on February 23. Somehow, we sent you an Insteon Wireless IP Camera instead, despite the fact that cameras and lights are two totally different things. Sorry about that.
First, we're processing the correct orders for shipment right now. Your lamps will be on the way today.
Second, we're still figuring out what to do about the cameras. Keep an eye on your Inbox for the proverbial "further instructions" in the next few hours.
Sorry to be abrupt about this and IANAL, but legally you guys just gave us a bunch of cameras with no strings attached. We are not required to give them back.
@Yakuman I certainly would hope to see the next order you get be followed with an irate post regarding a box full of goat poop. It's no big deal to send it back.
Hilarious... I opened the box and thought... hmmph.. how long ago did I order THIS? And why can't I remember it.... and why didn't I get an 802.11ac unit...? HA .. well, now I know.
@plasticfork Heh heh, relativism at its finest. But what I don't get is that if you're ok keeping the item by their mistake, you probably don't care if someone calls your actions 'wrong'. Right?
So now I can set up the cameras to stare at each other. I still want those lights. We're going to have stormy weather here in FL and cameras are no help at all. The only good part is that you folks will have to generate some new order numbers and we can find images. Can you influence the order generation module to refer to the CF in shipping? Possibilities abound.
@Pufferfishy Weird, I got a similar email but it said, "blah blah blah, we want nudes". Obviously they sent the camera and the email to the wrong person cause even my wife is like, yeah they don't want to see that..
Looks like my order has 1 IP camera in it since the shipping weight is 1.8pds. But the Post Office won't get it until today so I won't see it until tomorrow at the earliest to confirm.
IAAL, but meh sent me some free stuff (chargers, socks) so, if meh wants the camera back, meh is getting the camera back. "Legal" is not necessarily moral. [This would also be true if they didn't send me free shit. But the free stuff helps.]
@probablysteve I'm one of those, "OK, you can have it back, but on your dime" types. Which is probably why meh is pondering what they want to do. If they'd sent the lamps instead of cameras, it probably wouldn't be worth the return shipping for them to get them back. But the cameras are pricier, so I can see them doing the RMA return. I'll happily print a label to slap on the box; least I can do...
@probablysteve I'm with you on this. I'm trusting meh would pay for return shipping, but even so, these guys have sent me socks for FREE. I like meh. I will work with meh on this. Stuff happens.
Meh has informed me that I should expect an IP camera when I get home. I feel for Meh! I work for an ecommerce company, and we once sent a $15,000 item to a customer who paid for a $20 item. They were very forgiving and sent the item back. :)
Although, I wouldn't mind if meh is fine with letting me keep the IP camera. But will return if they ask.
@katylava We deal in vintage Star Wars collectibles. Can't recall the actual figure, but it was quite rare. Freak incident where everything was packed but invoices got mixed up. We told the person how much it was worth, and they just said "Meh" and sent it back. Good samaritan right there.
@JonT Would this be a good idea now that we know we are receiving cameras instead of lamps? I'd really like to return mine the easiest way possible. (Tuesday is my delivery day.)
@barnabee I'm in the same boat, my delivery is scheduled for tomorrow. Would love to know if refusing delivery and returning to sender works for meh? It seems like the cleanest way to do this for those of us still waiting on the original delivery.
@rhcurry02@barnabee@Robco44 We just sent another email out detailing the options available, but if you decide to refuse the shipment and return it to us instead that works too.
@bcsample ... So it's true? There will be 2 cams (when I finally receive them)..? I was kinda wondering about that since the notice shows only 1 but in the option it say's to "keep them" .. If only one I will return (after all two-fer had them for $34.00 yet we get one for $20.00..?) Of course that was my thinking, if it's two then that is a hell of a bargain.. (I'll definitely keep).. would meh believe it if I told them that the check is in the mail? (I didn't think so either).. Will let meh know when I finally receive them (it?).
Not so hot on an upgrade charge. I bought two of these cameras a few weeks ago, so I don't really need a 3rd! They weren't all that expensive... Not sure if it will be worth the expense of having them shipped back. I'm kind of meh about it.
I never got a tracking number for this as the status just says PLACED on my order... But then I got the email saying I was getting a camera instead of the lanterns?!?
Also the comforter I bought from the other sale was actually shipped but seems to be stuck in some shipping hell. Tracking that comes up DELIVERY EXCEPTION!
I got free socks and that's cool but can someone help me with the stuff I actually paid for?
@aperfecttool72 FedEx seems to be having some issues. My comforter was delivered by FedEx, not USPS like normal, and something else I ordered has been traveling through every city in Mississippi (I live in PA and nothing has ever gone through MS before). I have something else (non-meh) that's been sent farther away from me... It was so, so close. I don't know if Meh is having issues other than the camera thing, but FedEx is totally sucking right now.
@primrosewater I finally did get an email with two tracking numbers for the "lanterns". Smartpost doesn't seem too smart. If the first one is the camera, it went to Atlanta, GA and then to Charlotte, NC... The problem with that? I live in a town called Central in SC. It's named that because it's directly in the middle of going to Atlanta from Charlotte. Both are two hours away from here, just in different directions. Makes no sense it went more north than me from Atlanta.
Thank you for letting me know I'm not the only one with wacky deliveries going on. Still no idea what delivery exception on the comforter would be. We were home all day Saturday when it looked like it would be delivered. Next business day would have been today but it's showing maybe coming tomorrow?
@clselfridge ... This then is no good!!.. 1 camera for twenty bucks yet when first offered it was two for thirty-four? Where's the bargain in that? Even fifteen for one would be a deal but, twenty? Think I'll return just because of that. (not taking into consideration that it isn't purple)..
@unkabob Sez... Wish I could scratch this post as I guess I wasn't really around on the Feb. two-fer cameras, found out later that it was two-fer $68.00 not $34.00.. I just read the meh mail and assumed.. $20.00 is a good deal after all, so... uh, does anybody happened to have some crow I could gnaw on? Oh! I'm not apologizing for the lack of purple though Barney (is that an ugly looking judge or what?).
I just got a new email - aquamarine-cuddly-leaf - that has two tracking numbers, one of which was the camera (I guess) and a new one that doesn't register at FedEx yet. So it sounds like the LED lights - or something else even more fun - are on their way.
I don't understand... how can a screw up like this happen? Both the cameras and lamps were "2-for-Tuesday" did no one question why they were packing a bunch of single cameras?
Anyways, if you want your camera back I require "Meh" branded finger-less mittens. The choice is yours.
@mcbridma "You got chocolate in my peanut butter!" "You got peanut butter in my chocolate!" "You got the shipping lists screwed up!" "Say, who are you?"
@mcbridma would fingerless mittens just be kind of like bracelets that cover your palms and the back of your hand? Like a double wide wristband, worn lower? Are thumbs covered?
@djslack Imagine regular gloves but the fingers are cut off at about the second knuckle (close to the hand). Thumbs are uncovered except for some fabric back near the hand.
@djslack well, i had my friend knit them longer, i also have shorter ones, but i am wearing these when helping ym friend run ragnar relay in april. it gets cold in the morning/night and this yarn has the reflective bits for a little bit more visibility at night.
@vampje I would buy Meh fingerless gloves. Especially if they just said "MEH" in big letters on the backs of the hands. It'd save me so much time talking....
If Meh wants the camera back and pays for shipping, I will box it up and ship it back. Maybe we will get a red bag if we play nice and send em back. An obvious screw up but Meh has treated me well with socks and stuff so I don't have any problems helping them out of an "Oh Shit" Moment.
@mdrcoast I find myself wondering if there's a convenient way of getting other people to ship their cameras to ME instead (paying for shipping and the $20, of course!) But Meh would probably prefer to have their stock back.
Hey guys the lantern you sent me doesn't look anything like the lanterns in the pic at all. It's not a very good lantern, either. Doesn't really light anything up. Matter of fact, it kinda looks like one of those wireless camera thingeys.
My week is sad. Not because I received cameras instead of lights, of which I had ordered two each of two each (no packages have actually arrived here yet), because Meh said that would happen. I just got eMehls saying that my lights have shipped, and giving me new shipping information. There are new tracking numbers, but did I get free entertainment in the form of new order numbers? No, the old ones are being reused. I assure you, if Meh sends me a shipping label, I will gladly return the putative lights, but I reserve the right to provide my own order numbers, and I have very few word filters.
As someone who has worked pretty much all levels of retail as well as online distributors, I'm genuinely curious as to just how dramatic a mistake has to occur for this to happen. I'm not pissed, not even remotely. I'm just trying to imagine how shipping basically everyone who orders 1 thing another thing entirely can happen. You basically have to have an ordering system that sends an entirely different item to a picking system and not have any checks in place to prevent exactly that.
@vampje I am waiting with baited breath for this report. I wonder if they went to drop shipment and sent over the wrong list. That is the only thing I can think of.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind sending back these cameras if they paid for return labels. I don't have any use for the cameras. They're still packaged in the same stuff they sent them in.
@Spork ... NOW you say there are TWO cameras!! My brain pan is reeling, think I'll just wait to be disappointed that there's only one or excited that there are two when they get here.. I'm signing off until 11:59 tonight (another two-fer.. hope they don't double hit that bong like they did with the lantern/cam screw-up).
Since mine came in Saturday when word was just getting around about this, I opened the box to check. Sure enough, not lights, but I totally blew my chances of just writing return to sender on the unopened package.
Ok, just got the Meh "Your meh.com order of 2-for-Tuesday: Eveready Compact LED Area Lights has shipped." Two tracking numbers ... Is that one area light per tracking number? Or two/box/tracking number? Seems silly to ship them separately; but, then, shipping cameras was silly to begin with. Perhaps this is merely a customer loyalty test...
Well I was curious why I got a camera today but now I know I'm not alone. I had a good laugh about it, no reason to be upset. I can't wait to see the "Oh Shit" report on this one.
I was thinking about this camera, so make me a good enough deal and I might buy it. Otherwise feel free to send me a shipping label to get this to the original sap who bought it.
Just got my flashl...er...camera, and I have to say, I am not displeased by this substitution. In fact, I rather wish I'd quadrupled down, because having these all around my house would be handy.
Meh, I know these are rather a bit more spendy than what we paid for the lanterns....but could we maybe cut a deal, since otherwise there's shipping costs?
Please, for all those that are looking at this like a windfall, consider the long-term effect on Meh. This can potentially be an enormous, catastrophic event for them.
There are up to 2730 cameras out there being delivered to people who ordered lanterns. Let's assume Meh paid... I don't even know... $20 each for the cameras? that's close to $55,000 in potential loss... not even considering what it cost them in shipping fees.
So if Meh has to absorb a $55K-$60K loss that means the deals will be a bit less dealicious. The Fukus will not be as Fukued. And forget about free socks or tshirts or two months of VMP. Those won't fit the leaner, meaner revenue model designed to suck up this loss.
So how to move forward from here? A few ideas:
1.Calculate the cost of return shipping. Offer those that wish to keep the camera a discount equal to the cost of return shipping. Cameras sold for... what, $35? If it will cost $8 to get them back, offer a $8 discount for those that wish to keep.
2.Those that do not want to keep the camera, send out call tags and a free month of VMP for each camera returned.
3.Drug test the guys in shipping. Have the supervisor drawn and quartered as an example to the others. Watch Star Wars for proper villainous motivation.
@ruouttaurmind I really hope they let us know how many people purchased, returned, or kept them. Thank you for pointing out the long-term consequences. I'm afraid that too many people will think "It's only one camera, what can it hurt if I keep it?" and meh will become less... dealicious. They're already probably going to have to sneak a few dollars into some of the deals to make up for their losses.
@ruouttaurmind Amazon paid 110 million for woot. I doubt Matt would feel this too much... He wipes his ass with $100 bills yo. But i'll still send mine back necause it's the right thing to do
My friend is going to have a baby in a few months so I was going to give the camera to them....that is if meh lets us keep or pay less for them. Good deed deserves another.
I'm wondering if you can arrange for FedEx to pick it up at my house to deliver it to the post office? It's what you do and it adds two days of shipping time to every order.
actually I'll probably spend the $20 and buy the thing... that does make it quite a deal.
Hey all, you should received the followup email by now but in case you didn't and since @ruouttaurmind posted the sale link up above, here's some more info on the solutions we're offering:
Return the camera to us, at our expense.
Buy the camera for $20 and keep it. We're selling it at a discount to teach ourselves a lesson.
IF YOU WEREN'T SENT THIS CAMERA BY ACCIDENT DO NOT BUY IT. WE WILL NOT SHIP YOU ANYTHING. YOU WILL NOT GET ANYTHING AND YOU WILL FEEL DUMB FOR BUYING NOTHING.
One slight wrinkle to this: if you are not currently VMP you'll need to pay $5 shipping for the camera you already have, so we're obviously going to fully refund that $5 shipping charge.
@brainmist Only downside is that it tried to charge me shipping on an item that already shipped....back before I stopped my VMP. Solution? Get another month of VMP....which will encourage me to buy more things I really don't need. Curse you, Meh, you seductress/ seducer/ seductatron!
@JonT My nonlight cameras that I ordered on two separate orders are due to be delivered tomorrow. Can I simply tell the mail deliveryperson that I am refusing them, and return to sender?
@JonT I'm on a business trip on the other side of the country for at least one and maybe two more weeks.. Is it ok if I do nothing until I get home and check the package?
@JonT But wait, can I buy a camera I didn't receive, too? I could print up a picture of it and tack it to my front door, with a note that the area is "Under camera surveillance." It would be a very cheap security system.
@JonT so if we were sent what we think is a camera but aren't expected to get it until later I. The week. But will buy it. Should I just give you the money now? I'm ok with that. I don't want to cause more issues for you guys. Which my question may. But I know there are enough east coasters here that have the same issue. Also my package has been "delayed" till Saturday.
@JonT so even though you said not to. If we wanted to spend $40 on one we would just "buy" 2? :) nah don't want to cause issues like buying 2 or buying and returning it on you guys!
@sohmageek we reduced price of it to the point where it costs more for you to keep it but that is just cost going to the freight company. We like you better than the freight company so keep it if you have any use (or resale/gift potential).
it's even funnier if you're me, because meh packages take forever to get to my house. so after reading about the camera/lantern snafu for days, I get a package from meh. since I ordered lanterns, I fully expect to see cameras. I open the box. it's cedar planks. I guess maybe next week I'll get some cameras I can send back. I love getting stuff from meh. every box is like a Christmas gift. I simply have no idea what might be in it. rest assured, if I ever do get cameras, I will return them. because I am what used to be called "a stand up guy". all I can say is this month's goat has topped all his predecessors by a wide margin.
Well now, if this is an experiment in behavior modification (she didn't buy it before, but NOW will she) the answer is yes. Yes I will buy this camera to spy on my dog/children/coworkers. Why didn't I buy before? Maybe the price point... maybe better judgement... but if you ship it to my house, it's hard to resist. That's prime Book of the Month Club sales tactic, right there. Next, will you sell me 10 CDs for a penny, if I promise to buy 10 more at full price?
@andipandi Pretty expensive experiment (noted $55 potential price tag). Meh is trusting that all recipients will either return them (loss of $10+ in shipping costs) or pay for them (loss of $?? on the camera). Some recipients will just keep them...no idea what Meh plans to do about those users. The legal recourses would be cost prohibitive so their only hope is that the community is in general trustworthy and won't take further advantage.
question for the meh gods: which is better for y'all financially, for me to purchase the wireless spy camera at $20 or to ship it back? i'm flexible either way - want to help y'all out as much as possible with the money bleed.
@annwat strictly speaking it would probably be cheaper for us for the return, but all of the money spent would go to the freight company. If you have any value under $30 in keeping it, then we'd far more rather benefit you than the freight company.
i think i will just buy it, i guess. since i liked all the previous conflict resolution mehdiocre provided. except those Toccs headphones. those were turrible.
@snapster Did this cause any problem with supply for the camera 2-fer? I ordered one (2) of them, as well as one (2) lamp(s).. so it looks like I may have plenty of cameras!
@snapster All new mistakes, all the time. We're waiting breathlessly for the Ohshit report on this one. Sorry, I spent a couple of decades as a supply systems analyst for DoD. You haven't really invented a new one, but I'll let you know when you come up with one I haven't seen.
I wonder if Meh is just experimenting with crowd source warehousing! We could store small bits of inventory at all of our houses. When they sell, they ship from the nearest house. We slap a sticker on it and out it goes! Potential shipping savings, speedier delivery, and if I end up wanting to buy it I can get it in less than a minute!
Thanks for the awesome sentiment here on trying to help us out. Particularly the "keep costs down" element of this is nice to hear.
There's a page set up by the FTC to help ward off a scammer company from doing this on purpose. I'm confident that no one would put us in with such company but you might still be curious as to how this sort of thing works legally. Ironically, us including the option to buy furthers the optics here towards the bad guy view. We tried to make sure the price drop was obviously painful to us, but without any context of value on the camera you'd not necessarily know. Basically I thank you for your trust that we are not enjoying this.
We are working on the solution for the accidental $5 freight still being included for those who are not VMP - the likely solution with have an update that @JonT will relay. (in addition to refunding anyone who has paid the $5 extra)
I'm personally very sorry about the hassle of this - we are taking the matter very seriously.
@snapster At the end of all this, I would be interested to know the % of people who returned the camera, bought the camera, told you "Cheer up sucker", etc. A simliare report to your Amazon gift card decorate Meh HQ would be an interesting read. Thanks for your transparancy about this and don't sack anyone over this if it was an honest mistake....
@username Well, whatever the quantity, I'd rather pay Meh the asked price for the deal that I'll be receiving. Cuz, you know, I like Meh and I would pay the original price even if it is because of a colossal, boneheaded blunder on their part.
@username but retail is not meh. I would pay the asked price precisely because meh offers me an experience that is not retail. Yes, they are filthy capitalists, just like any other retailer; but they also make mistakes and are human, like you and me. To be a consumer naturally leads to a state of cynicism about retailers. There are other sites that offer wacky deals in wacky ways, but have you really experienced an internet retailer like meh? I mean, we get cheap deals, good community, and entertaining shizzle on this site, and I personally feel like that is worth treating this particular retailer with the level of respect that the internet otherwise lacks due to our jaded consumerism. Also, I think that Irk may have saved my marriage, so I owe 'em a solid.
@snapster Dudes, you're one of the few companies I have some affection for (I remember when Google was on that list.) I'm happy to help you over a bump in the road.
@username@cl4rk3 If I read things right earlier the $34 that they're talking about was 1/2 the cost of the two-fer that day. The deal was $68 for two cameras. So, no matter how you look at this, Meh is taking a pretty big hit no matter what option people choose. I'm not sure which I'm going to do with the two I received instead of my two sets of lanterns. I'll have to talk to my husband about it tomorrow, but either way, I feel bad for Meh and the loss they're taking over this.
@PurplePawprints I do but I don't. This is the third or fourth time, and it's not like the exec team is new to deal-a-day logistics. I don't want to recommend Meh to friends and risk them getting caught up in something like this -- "The one thing I buy and they send me the wrong thing and tell me to either send it back or buy something I didn't want."
@editorkid It is funny because that is exactly what happened to me. I had been a wooter from back in the day, I have been watching meh.. but there isn't much that I am actually interested in.. until the lanterns, camping trip coming up soon.. and now, all this bullshit I have to deal with.
Bought the camera. I think Meh could have chosen to not send out the lanterns until people shipped back the camera, but decided to be stand up about the whole thing. . Meh showing a lot of trust- hopefully Meh will not be burned too badly by this. C'mon people make your mommas proud. Do what's right.
@donna the problem is that we ordered a product, they must provide us the product or refund our money. So, they couldn't say, "send us back what we sent you because we screwed up and we won't send you what you paid for until you fix our screw up". so, they aren't really being stand up. They are covering their asses and hoping that we will be nice and give them back the more expensive item...or just buy it for cheaper.. meaning they'll save money from trying to fix this issue. Now, I don't plan to screw them myself. I haven't decided if I should buy the camera... or send it back.
@thenewtbaron eh. They seem to be trying to make a good compromise and take care of their customers. I'm going to take it as goodwill, not ass covering.
@brainmist um. take care of the customers? They have got our money and they have to provide the lanterns, or else give our money back... correct? That isn't taking care of the customers, that is the bare mininum needed for having customers... now, on the camera end. We as customers are under no obligation to send the camera/s back or pay for them. in many businesses, they just write it off. In Meh's case here, they are trying to get us to send the camera back or pay for it... once again, we are under no obligation do either. They are trying to some of their lost returned by getting us to buy the merch we already have or send it back so they can sell it.. it is ass covering on their behalf. If they get us to "buy" the mis-sent purchase.. they don't lose that much money. If they get it back and sell it again, they don't lose that much money. If we just keep it, like we are fully and legally allowed to... they lose the whole thing. So, yes... it is ass covering.
@thenewtbaron Wow, you sound very bitter for someone who at best got a good deal on a camera and at worst was very mildly inconvenienced while using a site that manages to both provide cheap merchandize and entertain. People make mistakes. You're right, we could absolutely all behave like entitled douchebags, gloat, keep the cameras, and eventually wonder why Meh no longer offered such great deals. and Meh could presume we'd do that and raise their prices to cover their loss. But instead, amazingly, Meh turned an oops into a surprise sale, and most of us have agreeably offered to do what we can to help out.
@brainmist not bitter, just realistic. this is a business, they have to make money to keep afloat..at you said.. so, their mistake could cost them money and as you said.. they'd take the hit on it. We are in agreement with that. you say that they are making a good compromise and are taking care of their customers. ok, what is their compromise? You can send it back to us or you can buy it at a cheaper rate... the option they don't say is that we can just keep both. the first two options, they are out 5-15$ on shipping and or their loss on the camera. basically losing a fraction... instead of all of the money. it isn't much of a compromise, it is just saying "please, help us not eat too much on this mistake". now, on to the taking care of their customers? how are they taking care of their customers? by sending the thing that they ordered? That is the given, that is what a customer is. now, what about the camera? they ask me to purchase it... or send it back. They are asking us to take up the mistake slack... that is making the customer responsible.. that is not them taking care of us, that is us taking care of them. well, entitled douchebags maybe.. but fully legal.. under the federal trade comission and federal law say. also notice, my issue less with the company and the camera and more that people are seeing Meh's actions as being "stand up" or a "compromise".. This is full on ass covering and hoping to lose as little money as possible.
@thenewtbaron You are completely wrong by every definition of common business practices. Yes you can keep it as a gift. But you would also be demonstrating offer acceptance and would not be entitled to the lantern, or continued business with the company.
@thenewtbaron I think what people are noting is you're acting like they want you to drive it back to Texas. They didn't give you a timeline, or deadline. If you had trouble getting a box, they'd likely send you one. They didn't give you a deadline. They also gave you a solid discount on keeping it. You're railing on them as if someone is throwing them a tickertape. You are behaving extremely bitter in a way that makes me look like the nice guy around here when it comes to customer service. You're out the $2 it might cost for gas, as well as your hard-earned time, assuming you would magically need to go to the post office for no other reason in the next X number of months. You're ranting because you think someone is getting off easy for an injustice. The guy with a missed opportunity at a camping trip usage has a bigger gripe.
@snapster Can you please send this guy a $10 gas card and a $5 bill to compensate for his time with the agreement he will not order again from such a dastardly, ass-covering organization?
@brandon wow, three replies. Check out the fTC stuff that Snapster put up about the situation "There's a page set up by the FTC to help ward off a scammer company from doing this on purpose. I'm confident that no one would put us in with such company but you might still be curious as to how this sort of thing works legally." go to this link that he put uphttp://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0181-unordered-merchandise also dude, the offer acceptance that Meh said, "we will sell you these lanterns at this price"... I agreed to it, them mis sending something is not offer acceptance if you go to the FTC " Q. Am I obligated to return or pay for merchandise I never ordered? A. No. If you receive merchandise that you didn’t order, you have a legal right to keep it as a free gift." If they as a company send in the wrong merchandise and won't send me the merchandise that I paid for... well, that is fraud... on a federal level.
@brandon One of the people said that Meh was "stand up" people because Meh chose not to hold the lanterns until the camera we paid for or sent back. newsflash... That would actually be a crime. So the person I responded to basically said, "I am glad that Meh didn't perform criminal actions to me... they are so good". The next person who response said that Meh was treating their customers super well in this situation. Ok, let's say I send this camera back... yea, I have to send it back and yea it will cost me time and money. What am i getting out of the deal? I get a discounted ability to order more stuff from Meh... Or I still get to pay Meh for something I didn't order. So... how is this a good deal for the customer? it isn't. That is what I have been replying to.. do you seem me saying that Meh is shitty, or that I will be trying to screw them over?
@thenewtbaron No, I see you being pedantic. The reality is all of the actions you note are not legal but very likely could be done by a company until they were legally required, barring someone entering into a class action with 1200 other people. Companies often do things they're not legally allowed to in order to grease the wheel. Feeling the need to tear down any positive will feels like an ax to grind rather than proper sense; I get highlighting that not everyone gets what they order or in an expedient manner ... hell I did that with my Fuku that took 3 months to deliver. But going out of your way to undermine what is arguably one of the most proactive efforts I've seen by a company to a) own a mistake, b) respect the audience for their efforts and c) do so in a completely transparent manner seems... little.
@brandon Fukus or BoC are random and they are said to take a while to get to where they are going. That is one of the things you are informed of... If they have on the agreement(you know, the offer acceptance that you talked about) that they could send me random objects and i have to send them back into get the package I ordered... fine. However, the Offer Acceptance that was put on the table was "here are our lanterns, pay for them and we will mail them to you". .. So, based on what snapster put up and what the FTC says.. we are under no legal obligation to purchase OR return the cameras. It wouldn't take a class action lawsuit... it would take my credit card company bouncing back the charges. Which is something they can do, if the purchased item doesn't arrive. So, they can't hold up the lanterns for return of the cameras, they would actually lose out on more money. once again, it isn't proactive, this is the definition of reactive. They fuck up, they go into full panic mode and ask our help to not get boned by their mistake. Btw, i do appriciate the fact that you "get highlighting that not everyone get what they order"... dude, that is the entire purpose of this business/company/website. also, I like that i am "going out of my way" by replying to a couple of people on the forum.
@brandon also, did you actually read this section, this is what I responded to " I think Meh could have chosen to not send out the lanterns until people shipped back the camera, but decided to be stand up about the whole thing. . Meh showing a lot of trust"... once again, they are being stand up for not committing a crime and going around "all acceptable business practice" as you like to say. Meh is also showing trust by what? once again, not committing a crime. The next dude said the the way Meh is acting is "goodwill", asking us to pay for something we are under no obligation to pay for... is not goodwill.. saying, "hey, please send it back to us.. and we will make it cheaper to buy more stuff from us" isn't treating the customer right. It is a carrot to get to help them not get financially screwed by their mistake.
@brandon which part and which reply did i not read? was the the mildly non-sensical stuff? That the things that people said Meh should do are illegal(or as you put it, not legal) and that sometimes companies do those illegal things until they are required not to do the illegal things by a class action lawsuit. I pointed out that the camera is legally ours, we are under no obligation to pay for it or send it back. Also, If they wouldn't send me the lanterns, I could hit up my credit card and get that money back... without a class action lawsuit. you then say, I am tearing down positive will by pointing out what is being said actually doesn't make sense, once again we shouldn't be happy and dance around just because a company treats us in a legal fashion. You think I am going out of my way to undermine reactive actions which are meant to staunch the bloodflow of money that they are losing from this. They screwed up, they are not allowed legally to hold our other orders.. and they legally can't charge us for the camera. so, they are asking, super nicely for us to perform actions for them. ... but anyway... what points of your did i actually miss?
@thenewtbaron Argh. Commenting could use some improvement. @thenewtbaron Here's the thing: Initially you have two categories of people; those who will feel ethically bound to do whatever Meh asks to fix this as long as it doesn't cost them anything, and weasel-dicked douchebags who will look upon this as an opportunity for free stuff, and if it tanks Meh, so what? The second group doesn't matter, because it's not affected by the offer. Meh offering to let them pay $20 instead of $34 is unlikely to cause them to suddenly believe they should pay for something they could, potentially, just keep. They've already demonstrated their integrity is for sale for $34, so really, does a discount matter? Will they see $20 and suddenly decide that now doing the right thing is appropriate? But then there are the people who would have done whatever Meh needed to make this right, as long as they got their original product and Meh didn't slam them with return shipping costs. Those people would have slapped on labels and returned products, or potentially paid the full $34. Those are the ones this offer targets. Meh could have gotten the product returned, and called it a day. But instead, as a cookie to the ones who were going to do the right thing regardless, they offered a substantial discount on a useful product. They didn't have to: we were going to do the right thing anyway. But now we get rewarded for it by a special just-for-us sale, which is kinda awesome. You point out that we could have just kept the product. I would counter that, regardless of the legality, no, some of us couldn't. It would be a jerkish, douchebag thing to do. It would contribute to turning the world into more of a cesspit of assholes than it already is. Some people may be content to sabotage Meh's long term sustainability for very slight personal benefit, but fuck those guys. Seriously, may they all trip on rough sidewalks and knock out front teeth for prioritizing a $20 individual gain over broader good. This deal isn't for those narcissitic assmonkeys. It's for the rest of us. And it wasn't required, but Meh did it anyway, because they seem to also be decent people. Yay us!
@brainmist well, bits of disagreement here and there.. but how about we just go on the fact that Meh is not a charity. Meh is not a important messageboard of information. Meh is a deal-a-day website, created by people who became millionaries by running a previous deal-a-day website which was bought by amazon. People are supposed to consider random website owned by millionaires the greater good? ok, well, Meh cannot force anyone of use to pay for the camera. They "discounted" the camera and people will now pay for something they didn't have to... to keep this all important resource of a website around.. a website that sells us things! I was waiting until they removed the shipping costs so I could purchase the camera (yay, vmp now) but all this talk got me thinking. Either way. my point hasn't been put down. They are not stand up people for sending the lanterns before the camera was returned or paid for(it would be illegal), they are not making a deal for any of us... they are asking us to purchase something we did not ask for and are making it easier by really lowering the price. All Meh is doing has nothing to do with being good or upstanding people... it has to do with their money. nothing more, nothing less.
@thenewtbaron That makes sense. I am glad to see that most people posting are going to either buy the camera, or send it back. I guess, however, that the people who aren't going to do one of those two things wouldn't be posting about it.
@thenewtbaron Did you skip the section on the website where is said,"Q. What should I do if the unordered merchandise I received was the result of an honest shipping error? A. Write the seller and offer to return the merchandise, provided the seller pays for postage and handling. Give the seller a specific and reasonable amount of time (say 30 days) to pick up the merchandise or arrange to have it returned at no expense to you. Tell the seller that you reserve the right to keep the merchandise or dispose of it after the specified time has passed."
@StrangerDanger Well, the first two are in general, "nope, you don't have to pay for unrequested merch and you don't have to tell the company that you even received anything" it does say you can write a letter to notify the company that you got something to cover your butt... That third paragraph is to make sure you cover your butt with the company not replying but also act nicely to a company.. how, do you define "honest shipping error".. I bet meh didn't sell enough of the cameras the first time they came around, so they did this to get people to buy out the cameras.. probably at cost... because it is cheaper to get your money out of stuff and be able to fill up the warehouse. I bet more people "bought" the camera they were sent vs how many actually bought the cameras the first time
@thenewtbaron That's a pretty jaded outlook. I would look at the site history to determine if it was an honest mistake. So far they have been very transparent on shipping delays, site crashed ect. I also would look up the BBB review http://www.bbb.org/dallas/business-reviews/mail-order-and-catalog-shopping/a-mediocre-corporation-in-carrollton-tx-90544607 "A". Also have they ever had this issue before? There is no concrete way of knowing honesty but I have made mistakes at my job (not in this scale) and most people understand mistakes do happen. This is no Abe's of Maine the site they rail on for their deceitful practices.
@StrangerDanger Jaded sure but fully legal. The point of my commenting on this tread isn't against Meh. It is against putting they way Meh is acting on a display as "goodness". As a business in their situation has a couple of options. They could take the hit on losing all cameras(profit and money into the product and shipping), they could ask for the product back and pay for the shipping(this way, they are out a couple of bucks but will still have the product and a part of the profit, or they could sell the product to the people who already have the product but didn't order it in the first part, they will lose out on the shipping but will get their money back on the product(maybe some of the profit depending on the margins).. but they have to somehow convince people to buy something they didn't want before.. So, Meh acting in the way it did was less about treating us well, or being decent people... it is about acting like decent people so they don't lose as much money... cause if they acted like a pile of dicks, more people would be willing to just take the camera.
Well I wasn't going to buy the camera the first time around but since it is already here and I'm getting more of a discount, I'll buy it anyway. Thanks for being cool, Meh!
Thanks for the email,was gearing up for vacation hadn't even open the box,decided to keep the camera,went to link and ordered along with another one.Just to help you gays out remember that means you only need to send me one! Lol...
@DDLOCKARD It reminds me of the old joke: A politician is being bribed with a new Corvette. Pol says "We can't take bribes!" "Then I'll sell it to you for $100." "Great, I'll take two!"
I'm a little confused. I received 2 cameras, and the deal on the cameras was a "2-for-Tuesday". If I choose to keep both, am I being asked to pay $20 total, or $40 total?
@ruouttaurmind ... Thanks for the explanation.. I too was wondering. I kept hearing "received one" then "received two".. It addled my brain sac but later you explained in full and now it's clear.. Hey! that sounds like some good lyrics for a rap (wait a minute.. I don't like rap)..
btw. meh was nice enough to let us keep previous mistake with some gaming headsets. unless it was not a mistake. but this seems like an honest mistake.
Where's the scapegoat when ya need one!?!?! WTF Meh!?! I wondered if something like what's been happening would happened if I hadn't missed out on the last Fuku!
First, the Oregon Scientific radio I ordered breaks after a week.. Pfft. Junk! Replacement? Spend almost as much as a just paid to ship busted one out to get replacement. Not really feelin' it, chuck in to garbage instead.
Up Next order up a couple of lamps, more trouble from that later.
End of Feb rolls around and free VMP ends, ok no problem It's back to paying for it. Wait what!? It didn't renew. Crap on a stick! So now I lose the 'status' of "VMP since 9/2014" and all the privilege & pomp that goes with it as "VMP since 3/2015" doesn't seem the same. Come on meh!
The next stick in the eye is shipping the wrong item and sending the IP Security CAM that if I buy to "take one for the team" will get charged shipping too cause meh screwed up and couldn't continue the VMP subscription properly.
Seriously Meh get your shit together!
Maybe not selling something for $10 might help?? $10 seems to be jinxed lately.
Edit: Hmmm, Seems now VMP has renewed itself but not of my hands.. :'\
@BabyBear Gee, that sounds harsh. I didn't think to check to see if my VMP - on from the start - was still active. What say, meh? You got more growing pains we need to suck up? Take that as a real question and not a "dig"; I don't like to be mean. I like to think I mean "meh", but, truth be told, it's nice to be a "part" of something, and if that is gonna' break, it's a bummer.
@BabyBear regarding the weather radios, two of my three radios died. Well, one died completely, and another has a flaky battery connection. I just opened up the third one - hopefully it'll last.
So Is this one of the experi-meh-ts where you send it to see how honest and what percentage of returns to sales... (I realize it's a blunder but you can always look at the bright side...) Also what happens if someone buys it for $20 and then also sends it back? Tricky no?
Keep up the good work. I think that you guys are awesome and take care of the customers above all else. Good luck to you guys... speculation to tomorrows meh? I'm thinking it's going to be a big vat of nothing... or speaker docks, or the soap dispensers again... I'd love the soap dispensers.
I'd love to see a meh name your price transparency on these... cost to meh__ minimum $20 going price $35... price can be between $20-999... may be interesting who would pay more...
Okay, I still can't figure out if $20 is for one camera or two. I ordered 2x2 of the lanterns, so what can I expect to be in the box, and how much will the total be if I want to just buy it?
@Pony If you bought ONE SET of lanterns, you will have one camera in the box. If you bought TWO SETS of lanterns (four lanterns) you'd receive two cameras. The $20 is for EACH camera you receive and choose to keep.
@ruouttaurmind ... Had to come all the way to the end to find out what was REALLY going on.. $20.00 for the camera is awesome! Good for us.. Not so good for meh but if they can suck it up then I can certainly save them more grief by just purchasing it instead of returning.. (sorry pickers/stockers, no o/t on this particular goof).
After checking with hubby, it looks like I'll just refuse the package when it arrives. We have no need for the cameras, and refusing it will send it back free.
@Pavlov I'd recommend checking if anyone you've sent something from meh has received them. I haven't received mine... my dad did. And I'm not getting them back.
@brandon Customer service says about 250 orders didn't ship. Obviously Meh isn't ready for prime time yet . . . Taking WEEKS to get other orders. Uncool. Waited a month or more for t-shirts.
@Pavlov These things happen and free socks aren't something to gripe about. Communication is crucial though in customer service, to your point, though.
@brandon I'm not griping about the free socks, I'm griping about the lack of professionalism, accuracy and expediency in Meh's shipping process. Plus, even if I were griping about FREE socks, I'll damn well gripe about whatever the fuck I want. You're fucking knighting Meh for continued poor performance . . . That makes sense on what planet? Maybe the one you orbit; not the one I'm living on . . . In case you haven't figured it out yet, my initial comment had NOTHING to do with socks . . . Jesus Christ, I swear you need to draw some people a fucking road map.
@Pavlov I haven't knighted anyone. I've just pointed out absurd it is how much effort people have put into arguments railing against a mistake fully owned by the company. They have a lot of customer service work to do but railing as if your down deposit on a car is being held up is ridiculous. Anything less than a riot in the streets or a mass "keep the cameras" protest, all you guys are doing is being negative for the sake of it. This is getting beyond correcting misconceptions on buyer rights and into IF OTHER PEOPLE ARENT LIVID I WILL ARGUE UNTIL THEY ARE
@brandon Same thing happened to me. I bought a gift for a friend and that's the address they sent the socks to. Different state and I'm not going to get them back. It would be nice if Meh had a primary address on file and then alternate addresses so any freebies can be sent to the primary only.
Well, I'm going to send the cameras back, because that's the right thing to do, but it will be a bit of a pain in the ass, so I'm going to whine a little. I live in an apartment building with outdoor mailboxes so the carrier will not pick up packages. I have to go to the post office and since I work during most of the post office's open hours, it will be a challenge to get this done. Ok. Done whining.
I think we should file a class action suit and subpoena Meh's inter-office e-mails to see who is actually the mastermind behind this plot.
My guess is that the culpable party probably took advice from the Hillary Clinton playbook and is using a personal e-mail account to try and conceal evidence of collusion within the company. Who would'a thought? Liberals in Texas?
Update: everyone affected has been given 1 month fresh or extended free VMP in order to resolve the hardcoded $5 shipping on the "buying the camera" option 2.
This stands to create a bit of confusion a month from now as we'll also be auto-canceling VMP if you weren't already a subscriber so that you never get charged. (those subscribed previously would remain so)
If you already got charged the $5 errant freight amount, we'll be refunding you.
@dashcloud I'm sure they could find a way to exclude @unixrab from future free benefits. He doesn't want them and is vocal about it. Don't even know why he comes to this site except to troll the place about his dissatisfaction with VMP.
Is there a time span to pay for the camera? I can afford it now-ish, but later in the week would be more convenient because of payday. Also it won't arrive until payday anyway.
I'll buy the camera. No problem there. But I have another screwed up order, the earbuds sold on Feb 23. Bought 2 pair but never received a tracking number.
@anonasd We'll be sending out an update on this ASAP but it likely won't be until later in the week. We are working out the details as quickly as we can. Thanks for your patience in working with us on this.
I wish the other thread hadn't been locked, because 500 posts, no pagination, and finding @snapster and @JonT posts with actual information requires more effort than sending the camera back will.
Hello all..... I just received two cameras, as well. I ran to the site and then to Amazon, so see what I had to ADD ON to use these things.... there is a STARTER KIT Amazon is retailing for like $115.00 that's needed to make the cameras perform.... just sayin' I'll be slapping a label on this box (whenever the label thingy is ready) and sending these bad boys back. Love the idea, hate the cost.
@AmazingChicken Insteon makes a whole line of connected home products, but as far as I know you do not need any of them to use these cameras. Perhaps I need to do some homework too.
@djslack It is a simple wifi camera. No homework or add-on needed. Download the quick start guide to your laptop and you are well on your way to cheap home security. It took me about 10 minutes and no extra purchases. Oh...these have night vision too.
@clselfridge I hooked mine up, it gave me an address and I was able to use my phone from anywhere. Not sure how secure it is but you don't need a starter kit.
@kadagan About three feet, ground level through the patio door. I actually counted about a thousand but that's because it was a closeup. Wiki set me straight, and I am never looking at night views of the patio again. Nightmare stuff.
It's a Foscam WiFi - and all the nifty Foscam stuff like their useful Android viewer works just fine with this camera - it also works with iSpy too.
Setup is HTTP-based, as a wired device - look for the camera one IP address past the last active device on your network.
One 'Gotcha!' their setup screen will accept any ASCII characters as part of the Password, but their software ONLY correctly interprets letters, numbers, the dash ('-') and the underscore '_' characters. There may be other permitted characters, but the splat (*), bang (!), and ampersand (&) are verboten, trust me, I {ahem!} know this in a rather Biblical sense, and am still a little sore...
So, if you use a strong mixed-case Admin PW with these characters, it will be accepted - but you will be locked out of the camera
@Dr_Jim Thanks for the Info. If that means if my Wifi PW has any of the 3 (#!&) I wont be able to get into camera, or a password you setup to get into the camera to watch the video feed cant have those 3?
I'm a little confused about the 1-camera/2-camera thing. The original sale of the camera was a 2-fer. (https://meh.com/deals/2-for-tuesday--insteon-ip-wireless-cameras) Meh says that they originally charged $35 for it, but wasn't that for 2 cameras? And now they're asking $20... for one? Is that right? I'm thinking about keeping the camera, but not $20 for one camera if they originally sold 2 for $35. This doesn't seem right, but what am I missing?
I don't mind their asking us to send them back, although I think from a customer relations point of view it would have been better to say, "Hey, our mistake. Enjoy your camera." But they're being a little unclear about the deal they're offering us instead.
Anyone know if there's an easy way to connect the camera to a battery pack? It appears designed to run solely from an AC adapter, but it might be useful to be to run it for short periods from battery power.
@starrigger The A/C Adapter probably converts A/C to D/C. That being the case, you can connect up the correct number of batteries that equal the same output of the adapter. For example, if the adapter outputs 12V DC, you can use 8 C or D cell batteries in series to get the same 12V.
@starrigger If your gorilla backup battery is a USB charger for your phone and tablets, it probably outputs 5V. I don't know for sure but I suspect the camera probably takes more than that. I have tons of items around the house that use A/C adapters and 12V is the most common. Some do use 6V and some use up to 24V and very few are 5V.
My suggestion is to wait until you receive the camera and then look at the specifications of the camera to determine the adapter output. If it is anything other than 5V, you cannot use a cellphone backup battery charger.
I paid for one of the cameras already, mulling on the second one... Gonna ask a friend if he wants to buy one... I'm spent from pax east :( and unable to pay for the second camera at this moment. (I'll pay asap, but may take a week.)
finally got my (single) camera yesterday. I have not seen the instructions to ship it back yet. could I just send it back to the "ship from" address on the box? or would that just result in Suite 100 filling up w/ returned cameras?
Hi, so I am pretty basic with tech knowledge and honestly don't want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to set this up. For 20.00 though it would be fun to be able to see what my dog is up to when I'm not at home. I may just be confusing myself here but can someone explain exactly how the setup works? I assumed I could just plug it into a power outlet, download an app onto my phone and I'm done. However, from the comments I'm reading above, it seems that might not be correct or I might not be reading the comments correctly (which is likely). Thanks!
@kim_mie77 You're right that it's not going to be that simple. Hopefully, someone answers (or maybe you could do a quick google search). I don't think it will be super hard to set up, but there are going to be a few steps involved.
@kim_mie77 I've set up a handful of the Foscam version of this camera (using the Foscam version of the app of course). In every case, the configuration was very simple for in-network viewing (monitoring while connected to the same wifi router the camera was connected to) but remote viewing required some changes to the router configuration and use of a dynamic DNS service like NOIP.com or DynDNS.
thanks for the replies! I'll take a look at the links tonight to see if it's worth it to watch my dog probably sleep all day :) @ekw sadly my dog may prove to be more adept at getting this thing working, lol...
I'm planning to buy the camera, if indeed a camera is what is in the box.
Currently the mystery package is being shipped from one neighboring town to the other, back and forth. Basically FedEx has been driving it past my house over and over again between two locations to either side of my town. I almost want to flag the truck down one of these trips to try and save them the gas.
But yeah, when the probably-a-camera actually shows up I'll probably-buy-it. If FedEx ever gets itself together enough to deliver it.
@applesticker Oh wait, just now they updated to say that they dropped it off at neighboring town's US Post Office and it'll be 2 days additional processing before they can deliver.
So yeah, FedEx gets a gold star for this delivery.
Got the camera, bought the camera. I balked at the camera first time around anyway, figuring I didn't REALLY need one (we have a baby monitor that works fine, but the battery life on the viewing unit is a bit crap now), but hell... if Meh is gonna send me one anyway, who am I to deny fate.
Now I can spy on my kids from the convenience of my phone and tablet.
I have finally obtained a box which I assume contains a camera. I can't think of a good use for it, honestly. So dear Meh, how do I get this back to you so you can resell it to someone else?
@aperfecttool72 I handed mine back to my mailperson, unopened, and said I was refusing it. No problem, she did some magic scan thing and it's on its way home. Shipping status on the original number says 'refused'. Easy.
@OldCatLady that might have worked for me, if I wasn't still waiting for the lanterns to show up & god knows what else. it's a bit tricky to send back an unopened box when you have know idea what might be in it, since your waiting on multiple orders to arrive.
@ekw Could always check the tracking number... Someone shared a really awesome app that I use to track which package is which... The app is called Deliveries, I ended up getting it for both Mac and iOS, When Meh sends your order has shipped I copy the order number (not the link from the order number, that is a bit annoying) launch up the app and it sees the link in the clipboard... asks do I want to add, Select Fedex and type what it is.. If I want to be surprised as to what's inside I put MEH as the item... But then I edit it and add "92" to the front of the tracking number. When the app says the Post office has it I switch the tracking to USPS to see where it actually is... Having the 92 doesn't bother Fedex, but USPS can't find it without the 92.
Hi guys. So before we plopped down the $20 we were going to happily pay for the camera, we wanted to make sure it worked. This required setting it all up of course. Although he was able to set it up on the laptop, the android app available doesn't recognize the unit. In the event that he can't get this to work, I expect the won't be a problem returning it, right? The husband creature has been through the advanced set up links through insteon to no avail. Any other help would be greatly appreciated!
I am a little disappointed because I was going to have a in the house camping with my 6 years old for the first time and I had hoped the lanterns was in the box. (To cold and raining everyday, can't camp outside). About the camera, I don't have the use for it. Although, it would be nice to catch my mail lady beating the crap out of my boxes. I caught her one time when I happen to be home. She was beating the shit out of it cuz the box didn't fit the mailbox. OK I'm done, email me the link to slap the return address on the box. My mail lady is going to be happy to pick up a box at my house.
oKAY, i READ ALL THE ABOVE POSTS AND HERE'S MY TAKE: MEH, YOU GUYS AND OR GIRLS ARE THE BEST! HANDS DOWN! iF YOU DO ANY OTHER ON-LINE SHOPPING YOU WILL not FIND ANOTHER 1ST CLASS SITE LIKE THIS (imho) PERIOD. i DID NOT BITE ON THE CAMERA 2-FOR DEAL THE 1ST TIME AROUND, BUT WHEN i RECEIVED THIS ITEM, IT IS A GREAT CAMERA, SYNCED WITH MY VERA EDGE HOME CONTROLER (z-WAVE DEVICES). wHEN i WENT TO PURCHASE THE ITEM, I WAS also GIVE AN OPTION TO BUY MORE AND i MAXED IT OUT @ 3 CAMERAS. aS FAR AS i AM CONCERNED, mEH WILL HAVE MY BUSINESS FOR A long, long time! (aND YES THE REVERSE CAPS WERE ON PURPOSE TO GET YOUR ATTENTION). mEH mEMBER SINCE MID-2014.
@jcalex22 Maybe you should contact Meh support for some of your money back, because I don't think they're shipping any more. The site is just for paying for the ones you already received.
Hey @jcalex22 as @KDemo mentioned, we will not be sending any extra cameras. We've refunded your 2 extra purchases already, sorry for the confusion and thanks for helping us out.
I got mine today, then bought it, now I'm reading the thread and getting very confused about setup. All my brain cells were burned up today trying to edit XML. Blergh.
insteon app: "reply to text message with code 1234 to allow insteon texts" me: 1234 insteon: invalid code me: blergh too hard must watch tv now.
Holy crap there is a lot to read here! Has it been decided? I have decided not to keep the camera.
How do I return it?
Sorry Snapster, I'm not willing to pay full price, or even keep it at a discount price.
I'll work for you for free. (How did you convince us it was an honor to spend hours after a woot off, deleting stuff. The nuns pulled the same trick! If you were really good, you could come to the convent and iron or clean stuff for them. Were you a nun in your past life???) btw... I really did love modding for free.
I'll send you money for startups without hesitation. Unfortunately the house is full of stuff we don't need. Can't justify adding more!
okay, i bought it.... i don't need it, i don't want it, but i bought it........not sure what i will do with it....but just can't resist a bargain........
Lanterns, actual lanterns arrived! After scrounging for batteries (missed the meh deal, wah) they both work, and are nice little lanterns. I had planned one for boychild, and one for emergency birthday present supply, but girlchild ran off with the other. Should have bought more.
I just wanted to say I'm happy with my 6 lanterns and, thanks to Meh, my collection of SEVEN cameras. So happy, in fact that I just ordered one of those "$100" starter hubs from eBay, for $30.
Just received my lanterns. Seems to be well made, but they are very, very dim. I ordered four, and will likely need all four to create enough light to be useful. In retrospect, maybe I should have spent $20 on a single brighter lantern. Can't say I'm thrilled with my purchase, can't say I'm disappointed. I'm just sort of... meh. Stands to reason, innit.
so USPS left the delivery of the cam on my porch when I wasn't home, so I couldn't refuse delivery. it's unopened--can I just write RETURN TO SENDER on the box and drop it in a blue mail box??
@alexpope just wait, they will come up with a link to click to print a free return label. technically you are the legal owner of it now, you could smash it with a hammer or toss it in the trash and have a clean conscience.
@thismyusername When you say "technically, you can do xxx" I don't think you can also say "clean conscience" lol. Technically, yes you can. But doing so would be a pretty crappy thing to do which excludes anyone with a soul from not feeling like a dick about it.
@Bingo Not really... the law is on our side... granted meh wasn't doing what the law was setup for, but there is no reason to fret over their mistake... if the camera bugs anyone, toss it. It's your property... seriously. There was this cell company in the 90's who used to do this.. they would send a phone and try to trick people into service... my friends and I had so much fun destroying those cell phones :)
If anybody wants to sell me their unwanted camera, I'd be happy to take it off your hands at a reasonable price (e.g. $30-ish) to allow you to pay Meh for the camera and cover postage.
@Snapster & @JonT - Decided to pay the $20, keep the one I received, and give you guys some love. Also, the aforementioned offer is available to you too.
My wife decided that I would prefer to keepthe camera to perform the above canine espionage/ surveillance, but the one we received didn't have an antenna in the box, so without network cable attached, it cannot connect to our wifi network, so where do I get a replacement antenna??
Father did a return-to-sender of the camera to the post office. Hopefully this will be traceable. Already going to hear about this for the next 3 holidays
Got the lanterns. They are as good as expected for the price. Don't want/need the camera but not going to plow through he messages above. Send a label, I'll send it back.
@JonT Aw. c'mon, I keep it and save you the trouble of re-stocking it, and you begrudge me a small favor like this... JK, to be honest, I didn't think it would be fair. But ya can;t blame a guy for tryin' ;-)
I paid the $20, but then also received an email about shipping the camera back. Was this a blanket email or did my purchase not go through? I just want to make sure not to inadvertently screw meh on this.
@JonT Got it! Thanks, will be dropping it in the mail Sat or Mon. Wish It was a better camera but doesn't work with Windows phone, crappy resoultion, and just all around not worth $20.
@JonT Although I bought the camera I didn't order, I never received the return label email, and my two lights are still sitting in the label created-but-not-shipped state. Emailed Customer service but got the form letter response that they are buried so don't expect any quick replies.
@JonT My label arrived -- I'll get the camera out sometime soon. (I'm too hip or old or both to own a printer so have to wait for that rare moment when no one's looking at work.)
@JonT My camera is on it's way back to you. Oh the stories it could tell sitting here on the floor for the past 2 weeks. Then heading out during today's late March snowstorm for its trip back to Texas. Leaping out of my hands once to jump in a snow before off it went. Was almost sad to see it go, well not really.
I know everyone wants to talk about the return labels for a totally different item here, but I thought I would take a minute to speak about the actual "lanterns".
I took the opportunity to take one (the red one) apart and see what makes it tick...namely 3 "superbright" narrow beam LED bulbs. These bulbs allow it to perform in a purely Meh manner...it does exactly what it says it will do etc etc...and no more. I kept one "stock" and the other I modified (level 1 modification).
A single Seoul Semiconductors Z-Power LED Emitter (U-bin) ZPOWER on a star was a good fit for the original bulb holder. The original resistor was removed and a properly sized resistor substituted (don't have it in front of me, don't recall the rating). On the same 4 AA batteries it is quite a bit brighter....not shabby for $4 mod cost.
An alternative mod would be different batteries (14850 lithium) and more SuperBrights...the 3 bulb holder circuit board can handle as many as 8 I believe.
No label here either. I'm having trouble with email to/from Meh. So much so that I even put it in an support ticket. Have two to go back, no use for them since I already have a better system.
Hey everyone, we sent out one round of return labels a week ago that should have been sent to everyone but wasn't.
I've added everyone that's posted to our list and we're waiting on some clarification before we send another round of return labels. Thanks for your patience.
Hey, can someone from Meh tell me if I already paid for my IPCam? I seriously can't remember and I'm not sure if I paid for via the link or with my account.
@AgentDiscount goto this address https://mediocre.com/orders log in with your meh username and password and you can see if you purchased it... also you should be able to see what card you used.
Just remembered that I forgot that I decided to buy the camera....Done! :-) And the lights were awesome too - one now lives in my car for my Get-Home bag.
@Robco44 Have you checked your spam folder? They sent and resent return labels several times so far. Though it does seem a few were still lost to the matrix.

@axleman1011 You light up your tent with your smartphone?
@axleman1011 Good luck getting 21 lumens for 53 hours with your phone.
@axleman1011 and does it float?
@derpandabar
@unixrab Quick! Which one was more expensive!
@BabyBear the custom short lightning cable?
@unixrab ...30 pin.
@chaynie thas why it's so expensive... underneath the 30pin hood is a lightning connector! (or .. I messed up and called the cord a lightning cable when infact it really was only a very short 30pin apple cable) ... votes?
@unixrab that's an iPhone 4(s). Only 30 pins belong inside it's port.
@chaynie That's an iPhone 5 in a clunky 4(s) case for when you're slummin it and don't want yer phone stolen...but that is a 4(s) lantern
@unixrab) lol
@chaynie :-)
Nice! Something else to use all of these AA batteries on.
@VeeDubTDI Exactly why I ordered!
@VeeDubTDI that's part of why I
considered this
@Rstoker Me too!
@VeeDubTDI you'd have more luck dousing them in lamp oil ...1 use only x 2
In for three pairs! Looks like this is going to sell out quick. EAST COAST IN THE HOUSE!
@unixrab they have decent reviews on Amazon, at more than twice the price
@VeeDubTDI Still have two boxes of fujitsus, only have used 4 of them.
@Baybay11 amazon... pssh... they own woot how can you take anything they say seriously
Now I wish I got the batteries the other day...
@Occasionally order these lights now. The batteries will be back. If not tomorrow, likely within weeks.
@Occasionally always buy the batteries. Always.
screeching-wispy-crayfish
@vampje this does not really add to the overall conversation
@unixrab but it would if crayfish could talk.
@RedOak I'm thinkin the censors get the crawdadas
@unixrab neither does your comment. oh wait, we are conversing. oops.
@vampje they're called crawfish, you uncultured swine
@bx2a5z technically it is meh that is uncultured, i didn't pick the order phrase.
@bx2a5z mudbugs
@vampje right, right... must keep up appearances. ;-)
I would totally buy these if the teddy was included!
@OldCatLady I like this strategy ...mostly for the shipping department @ meh.com
@Kidsandliz ... You forgot re-selling (for profit) at monthly flea marts and bazaars.. (that's my plan).
@studerc hands down best usage of VMP evar. kudos!
@studerc I want to give the loyalty program idea more than one star, studerc.
@studerc well, then, Twofer Tuesday might be a "temptress" for you, but it certainly is not "for no fucking reason!" Don't feel guilty about the profit motive!
@Kidsandliz g) @studerc is going to start meh2.com soon
@studerc The Built cases must have been like hitting the jackpot.
@TheCO2 I got a total of 70 of them. Cost me $16, so far I've sold about 10 of them and profited about $50, they will be a slow burning candle of profit for me. After awhile I'll probably bundle them off just to get rid of them.
I'm waiting for next Tuesday.... It's just a toy not for camping
Are there directions included? Not sure I'd know how to work them.
21 lumens? I can fart 21 lumens.
@G1 pix or it dint happen
@G1 a half second 21 lumen methane ignition doesn't count.
This will not be very bright at 21 lumens…
A 100 watt Bulb 1700 lumens
A 60 watt 800 lumens
A 40 watt bulb 400 lumens
A 25 watt bulb 180 lumens
A 4 watt night light bulb is 20 lumens
@Kidsandliz you shouldn't talk about @jont that way
@Kidsandliz that's why you need to buy 6!
@unixrab why? does he glow in the dark?
@Kidsandliz Hell a AA maglight puts out over 4 times as much http://maglite.com/shop/flashlights/compact-flashlights/mini-maglite-led-2-cell-aa-flashlight-holster-pack.html#.VOwKM_nF-4Q
@Kidsandliz A dinner candle puts out 12 lumens
@kubi at only 6 times the price.
@Kidsandliz hmmm...I will have to rethink my phrasing
Decent deal, I'm in! These will be nice to have around in the summer.
fluffy-unsuitable-structure
@Stallion ???
@Stallion Probably especially summer NIGHTS, I'm guessing
Between trying to fix some stuff under the sink and the very rare occasional power outage, this stuff will probably get used more than my usual purchases do.
@wisenekt those solar outdoor garden lights work well for stuff like that too and the lumens are about the same. When I lived in northern Idaho and power went out a lot I'd just collect them up from outside, hang them from the chandelier, banister, knobs on the cupboards in the kitchen… had about 6-8 hours of light before I"d have to take them back outside again to recharge.
Target seems to think that 1 lumen will get you 30 feet of distance so 21 must be the center of the sun. http://www.target.com/p/evr-led-mini-lantern/-/A-14778717#prodSlot=medium_1_4&term=lantern
@wisenekt
in for one....
thinkable-handsome-trouble
@bullrocky no pic?
@unixrab
frosty-good-straw How did Meh know the good straw was frosty!?? Been snow on the ground since beginning of Jan probably gives it away.
Bray Wyatt approves of this sale!
We were without power for 16 days after Sandy. 'Nuf said.
I have decided not to cancel VMP. Just please don't send me any free Meh branded condoms. Mediocracy only goes so far!
@eyewerks now you've done it
@eyewerks I'm waiting for Meh pants. It's the natural progression after the Meh shirt and Meh socks.
@mortonfox Sexy Meh undies, for everyone! Now, when you drop your drawers, your partner will know what to expect.
@TheCO2 You are one sick puppy...
@Kidsandliz Thanks! That's the best compliment I have had, all day.
I have some like this already
and have 3 of those head lamps you guys sold ages ago
I'm good
@WilhelmScreamer
21 lumens!!!!????? Can you see me now? Can you see me now?
@eeterrific No but I can hear you...
Oh look they float...
@bluejester Holy shit I just wet myself. Pennywise scares the crap out of me.
@bluejester we all float down here...
@bluejester And there goes any hope of me sleeping tonight! Now I need those for night lights!
@JonT I rather thought of you as a sinker.. go figure
@unixrab do you have any hobbies? May I recommend needlepoint, whittling, or calligraphy? You have a lot of energy that I think could really be channeled into something positive.
@JonT (in order) yes. no, no, no. thanks! rneh!
@JonT I think being the thorn in your side IS @unixrab 's hobby.
You two just need to hug it out.
@pepsiwine nonsense!
@pepsiwine or...
?
@unixrab That's what I'm talkin about!
But if you two are too squeamish to hug it out in person, I'd be willing to arrange a hug-by-proxy. I could hug you on behalf of @JonT and then I could go hug JonT on behalf of you. What a nice person I am!! And not at all creepy!!
@pepsiwine I would never put anyone else through having to hug @jont ... plus... my therapist tells me that I need to feel "significant"
@unixrab Jeez, how repulsive is this @JonT guy that you want to spare me from hugging him?!
Is he, like, a Jabberwocky or something?
If so, then hugging a Jabberwocky could be considered a significant achievement.
If you survive, that is.
@pepsiwine I admit, I do not know from experience (thankfully) but, both @snapster and @shawn say it's a traumatizing experience
Is it good for bed side lamp...?
Too dark for reading...?
(Oh, I'm reading with iPad..)
@awhosit Kindle Classic
@halnwheels I have neoprene for your Kindle. Lots and lots of neoprene.
Movable-grizzly-rye does not inspire imagery. I must order more. Besides, we're overdue for a hurricane.
I love lamp.
From that movie?
I think it was "Rumblefish".
@poppaearl Are you trying to haiku? 'Cuz that ain't right.
@poppaearl
@pitamuffin ooohhhhh, it's a haiku you are looking for..almost eleven...refresh refresh again please...fukuburo? Lamp.
@poppaearl A Fish Called Wanda.
@bakeyoural The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh
In for a couple. That'll be two less candles to light next time the power goes out.
@Stallion did you reflex-buy then read the description?
@Stallion When it 's totally fuckin' dark out 21 lumens is like hitting Blackjack.
Here is one at Target with more Lumens and run time for only $5.99:http://m.target.com/p/evr-led-mini-lantern/-/A-14778717
@Stallion Hate to tell you but under specs that Target one is 1 lumen - yes ONE.
@eyewerks I have more head lamps and flashlights than I know what to do with, don't need more Meh ones around. I'll spend more and get a better one, then light up the entire god damn casino floor.
@Kidsandliz Both look like junk to me:)
@Stallion Link shows 1 lumen for me... is that realistic?
@Stallion I applaud your honesty
@chaynie I think it's a typo, compare the specs to this data sheet, same light for $5.99 im guessing:
http://www.eveready.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/evcal41bp.pdf
@Stallion The blue one looks junky...but... the RED ONE!!!
@Kidsandliz I am sure it's the same product. They meant one LED bulb.
@Stallion Thanks for the info- I just cancelled. I can run up to Target for if I really need one.
I love purple.
@Stallion From the manufacturer's web site: "Before Using Your Flashlight: Please read all instructions and cautionary markings on the package and light". Apparently you can hurt yourself with these.
This is what 21 lumens looks like:
... only not that bright... unless your monitor is turned down
@unixrab Always finding a use for that white box of yours, aren't ya?
@brhfl does it show? (I love it!) ;-)
I love purple.
@Barney You get a blue one, and a red one. if you stare at them long enough you have 2 purple ones.
I remember buying three cases of these from woot years ago.....i think they were ten bucks a case.
@nltownsend843 that is awesome
15-30 lumens: General household indoor use, moderate range outdoor use ( a few yards); this is the light range that the 2 D cell plastic light with a prefocus bulb generates. (from the web)
ablaze-luxurious-cough
@editorkid love it! "throat-ease" :-)
Fine… magnetic-fierce-giraffe
magnetic-fierce-giraffe
Who's buying this crap?
@satih Survey Says!? VMP's
@unixrab It's usually fair to say that @studerc is buying them. That guy is insane in the membrane.
@studerc did you just talk in the third-person? @unixrab wants to know
An easy meh for me is welcome after two straight buys. I was beginning to think id have to add a meh line to my personal budget.
What the hell- in for two. I like mainstream-voluntary-power.
@saodell Light is OUT!
@saodell buy a kerosine Aladdin lamp - 100 watts. Brighter than any other kerosine lamp out there. Then you will have LIGHT when the power goes out.
@Kidsandliz a 100 watt kerosene lamp? ??
@VeeDubTDI yes made by aladdin
@VeeDubTDI In fact I have a brand new, in box, vintage one from 1979 that also has an electric adaptor I will sell you if you want.
MEH MEH MEH.
I vastly prefer this:THE SIEGE by STREAMLIGHT
@givemeyoursoul I like these: http://www.coleman.com/product/4aa-pack-awayreg-lantern/2000009291?contextCategory=MiniLantern . They will fill a tent with enough light to read. I also have a couple of these: http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-Magic-125-Lantern-Flashlight/dp/B002NM39VA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424783770&sr=8-1&keywords=eureka+magic+125 . You can find them both for significantly cheaper elsewhere. The biggest complaint I have about the meh lights, besides the dimness, is that they are way too big, for NO fucking reason! Where do you store them? How do you pack them for camping? Strap 'em to the roof?
@G1 When the lights go out, I just go to sleep. its easier and cheaper and you don't need to fuss with calculating lumens and whatnot.
Ordered a pair so I could get a cool order number. However, placid-passive-tent is not especially cool. Good thing these lamps are Boyds Bear compatible or I'd cancel.
@heartny Why do people post their order numbers on here? Do you get prizes and world recognition and women and stuff for it?
@Steve7654 Just because they're funny, or novel. I prefer to see the google image search pics that correspond, though.
In for one pair:
unjust-wakeful-flag
@mortonfox that is pretty terrifying.
@mortonfox In for one too [?] stylish-handy-ladybug We can never have too many light sources.
@PhysAssist Oh, and here is another higher lumen output lantern 60 lumens for $24, so what about 3 times the output for about 5X's the price? [$24 vs $5 for 1] http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Bright-LED-Lantern-Emergencies/dp/B00NPLSZF8/ref=wl_mb_wl_huc_mrai_1_dp
@PhysAssist Math!
@unixrab Nah, I just looked at the relative brightness in the pictures, and felt for how much each would make my wife hurt me if I bought it... But thanks for your vote of confidence that I could do ciphers and gosinta's....
@PhysAssist .... now I feel bad.... I was just trying to do a play on "Bath!"
@unixrab No needs to be feeling the bads, I was no offended, just playing along. But I guess I must be culturally stunted because although I see the "Bath!" posts from time to time [OK, daily], I have to admit I don't understand at all to what it is referring.
@PhysAssist you have none other than Master @JonT to blame for that little neoprene nugget (ick..) He should own up to that explanation.
@PhysAssist Someone referenced taking a bath in their 100 neoprene sleeves.
@PhysAssist fuck that thing. "Brightest lantern on Amazon," but doesn't list how many lumens. Picture illustration says 3xAAA but the inside of the battery compartment says AA. Cycling is listed twice on the list of activities (sounds fun!). No run time listed. There are also about a dozen other similar models floating around the internet, so it's obviously just a China Brite that resellers like Divine slap their names on. For a proper lantern, look into the UST 10-day, 30-day, or 60-day lanterns. http://www.amazon.com/UST-10-Day-Compact-Lantern-Silver/dp/B00FEZWBSU/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1424793673&sr=1-3&keywords=ust+30+day+lantern
10th meh click. Mehdiocre mehmentous event of disappointment.
Oh, and good luck reading by 21 lumens. A 25w light bulb is between 120 and 240 lumens.
@givemeyoursoul
Perfect!
@givemeyoursoul ... They're great for bathroom trips in the middle of the night.. (better on sleepy eyes than a reefer light).
@unkabob this?
...asking for a friend.
@unixrab Yes it is probably accurate and calculated on a 2D plane. It doesn't light directly underneath and directly above so it's only referring to the horizontal plane.
@unixrab Looking at the lamp, how about "hemispherical illumination"
@cengland0 it looks as if it would be several horizontal planes, from say about 20° to about 150° ... the description is selling itself short...and is @redoak correct in saying "hemispherical illumination?" Seems it would be "**multi-plane 360° illumination" (with a disclaimer that it's not full spherical illumination)
@unixrab If you look at the shape of the clearish plastic lens, it appears to be at least "modified hemispherical illumination".
@RedOak I don't see anyway a true hemispherical shape of light could be achieved with a opaque top and bottom:
@unixrab so you do not believe light escapes that "opaque" portion of the lens? Seems like hair-splitting.
I think that the description should have been a little more accurate than to blithely say "360° illumination" ... tacky. ;-)
If you go out in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise... Today's the day the Teddy Bears go elec-tric.
Teddy and Bunny not included..?
NOW they tell me..!!
@unkabob
Translation: "Ted 44lumens Man's Ted Bear"
@unixrab
@unkabob :-)
@unixrab now that is disturbing
foggy-jittery-way
I just did the damn thing. 2 pairs. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in...
This lantern is actually quite nice for only a little more. Not waterproof, probably wouldn't float, but brighter.
http://www.amazon.com/Weiita-Fireplace-L11-LED-Lantern/dp/B0087RWPN8
@2many2no more info
http://www.weiita.com/fireplace-led-lantern/fireplace-l11.html
@2many2no Nearly twice the price and only lights for 40 hours versus 53.
@cengland0 Sorry, was $5.99 on Amazon a couple of hours ago, but they're not known for price stability.
It is 150 lumens though.
@cengland0 But only uses 3 "AA"'s (included vs. not @ meh) ...so MUCH more efficient with same battery life (actually slightly more) per battery used.
@2many2no At that price including batteries it was the same or better than this deal by far.
mature-glorious-ice
@psuravar excellent!!
C'mon Timmy, let's see what's goin' on over at Woot.
time passes..........
DISAPPOINTING-WEBSITE-PLUNGE
@halnwheels that could be an order number... In lower case
@Pamtha > it also does not turn you into an erotic shadow show for people at adjacent campsites.
So my plan to use the pair to offer 3D porn may not work?
@Pamtha Yeah, I'm surprised to see so many people slamming on the brightness of these. There's a time and a place for blazing electric sun, and there's a time and a place for something else. If you need to pop out of the tent for a little while, you don't want to lose all your eye dilation and spend the next 10 minutes readjusting to darkness.
fine-lengthy-dracula
Sounds like a well spoken porno
Meh... the local Five Below store carries some similar for 5 bucks each. Yeah, might not be quite as bright or last quite as long, but they are led and light sufficiently. If this was two-fer for $5, I'd be in for 3, but this just ain't worth it for me.
The kids would just break them anyway.
@Relleluck unless you are in Texas the rest of the free world is not paying taxes and if you are VMP no shipping either, so I think I spent ten bucks pretty wisely
An excellent review on LED lanterns:
Sweethome Lanterns
The short answer don't get this one.
@aboxman heh... +1
puzzled-galvanic-powder
Bought a 3 pk of the same exact lanterns with batteries for $19. Academy Sports.
@maggie Meh uses Google tracking technology and Amazon metrics to generate its confirmation numbers.
@maggie @gwrankin this isn't true at all which makes it that much better than through pure, 100% randomness you got a relevant order word.
@JonT @maggie Busted. :)
This was a sweetheart of camping/mobile/work light flexibility if you grabbed it before Lowes killed it recently:
- Lithium Ion rechargeable (110v prongs built into base)
- AA battery alternative base
- Focus-able flood/spot with area mode
- Removable snake neck, magnetic base
Started at $39, but we paid $14 and $7 each for them.
@JonT, any chance of finding the remaining Lowes stash for meh.com?
In for a pair. Hopefully these little Dark Suckers will use up all my damn batteries.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
@jrwofuga I believe this comment is safe this far down into the thread... I haven't quite determined where "sea level" is yet...but safe to say this one is way below the deletion threshold. Kudos!
I love purple.
I love purple.
Bought 2 pair. Alas; something that will start using the 120 AA batteries I just bought.
I love purple.
I bought a set. I feel dirty and used, and will probably regret it later.
I bought a couple to keep in the trailer because we always forget flashlights, now I've got that reduced to forgetting batteries.
If my Mom didn't give us LED flashlights and lanterns the last 3 Xmases I'd totally buy these for the kids. Oh, I should mention these counted as her useful gifts, she got us a lot of other stuff as well...
@JonT appears to have bought way too much crap, as these haven't sold out yet.
@VeeDubTDI lantern friday
Has anyone received a tracking number for these yet? I'm going camping this weekend and trying to see if I will receive them in time.
@scampbellucf there was a bit of a delay but I believe they will be shipping out soon.
@JonT @scampbellucf which means no, you won't have them this weekend. Cabela's has them for $8 tho
Thanks for the update, though.
yea, kinda sad at the speed meh is shipping products. all seem to take much much longer then expected. ordered this on the 24th, and didnt ship till the 3rd? figured ordering it on the 24th for a camping trip this weekend was enough time, but nope, looks like mine is also getting delivered Saturday. weak. very weak.
however, that damn sock was sent quick lol. wtf
@paranoid56 Blame the inability of Dallas to deal with snow/ice...school was canceled 3 days in just over a week.
@paranoid56 simple - we started shipping you the socks weeks before we told you. :-/
Hey everybody, it was brought to our attention that there was a bit of a shipping mix-up and people that ordered these Eveready lights may receive an Insteon camera instead. We're looking into the cause and how many people are affected and we'll have more information and a solution for you on Monday.
@JonT I am one of them. heck, not even the two'fer version of the cameras... hah.
@JonT You guys gotta start springing for the boxes with the labels.
@JonT I am another one of the ones who got the camera instead of two lights. Thanks for looking into this.
@JonT Sorry about this, guys. It's incredibly frustrating for us, and I'm sorry that it impacted you. We'll have a solution soon.
@JonT yup. Mine as well
@JonT I also got the camera instead of the 2 lights.
@JonT Count another cam here. Funny thing is I told my son it was something for him and his sister for camping and he guessed camera. After a snicker and a tutting "guess again", opened to find a camera!
@Cirrius Hey, what was your camera's FedEx shipping weight?
@JonT - Looks like you're really going to need a good scapegoat here. Here's your chance to bleat, @BillLehecka
@JonT And I just opened a box to find...3 cameras...
@JonT I received the camera too.
@barnabee 1.5 lbs for 1 camera
@Cirrius How will you ever earn back their trust? Your kids are doomed to crime and the stripper pole. So sad.
Can't believe how many people already got theirs. Mine didn't even ship until 3/3 and won't receive until Weds/Thurs according to FedEx
Chiming in as another dude-who-got-a-camera.
@JonT It's alright. I've been considering buying an IP Camera... just wasn't quite ready to get one yet. You may have just solved my dilemma. And inspired me to keep my MVP going. MEH FTW!
@JonT You can withhold my lanterns, but you'll never take my freedom! But I'll gladly give you back your camera.
@JonT also got a camera.
@JonT Have a camera as well. Going to set it up so i can watch for the right package to be delivered.... mehahahaha
@JonT Free gift? http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0181-unordered-merchandise
@JonT Got unordered camera too! Notified CS.
Yay!
That is why it was called...
blessed-doomed-fact
I ordered the two lights and received a WiFi camera why didn't I get the lights will you send them
@jim1 Look at a couple posts up above. https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-eveready-compact-led-area-lights#54fb2e8cc8d8bcc0095579ac
Now I'm wishing I bought the lights. I would rather have the camera for the $10 price paid. I wouldn't have paid the prices Meh was asking for the camera but for $10, that's a good deal.
Weight 3.6 lbs / 1.63 kgs
@digital_one Did you receive your order yet?
@barnabee 2 IP cameras.
I ordered these and when they came in the mail... I got a Insteon WIFI camera?!? They retail for about $80 so I guess from that standpoint I got a good deal. Unfortunately, the camera isn't worth the $10 I paid for the lanterns...
i see one package 11x11x11 @4.5 lbs... ordered 3 sets of lanterns - guessing i'm getting cameras too!
Got the cameras too instead of the lights ... boo!
Got the camera too!
You guys are awesome.
I also got the camera. Just received an email from Meh:
Free camera to film my LED area lights!
Sorry to be abrupt about this and IANAL, but legally you guys just gave us a bunch of cameras with no strings attached. We are not required to give them back.
@Yakuman I still chuckle every time I see that acronym.
@Yakuman Yeah, and I'm not legally required to kick puppies, either, but sometimes I don't.
RE: Yakuman - Well, in life, there's the legal argument and the moral one. Each chooses. Hope you'll choose the latter one as well.
@ocdan7 Don't judge my morals or I'll use my free camera to film me kicking your ass!
I just got this really wordy email that was all like "blah blah blah blah blah you got a free camera".
@Pufferfishy Weird, I got a similar email but it said, "blah blah blah, we want nudes". Obviously they sent the camera and the email to the wrong person cause even my wife is like, yeah they don't want to see that..
No cameras have been received, nor have lights, so actually they are Schrodinger shipments, and mine are both in Orlando.
whoa locked thread was locked as i posted!
@probablysteve Did you forget the N or are you actually a lawyer
@probablysteve so, this guy i know has a problem with a sock-related murder, can i ask you about it?
@probablysteve I'm one of those, "OK, you can have it back, but on your dime" types. Which is probably why meh is pondering what they want to do. If they'd sent the lamps instead of cameras, it probably wouldn't be worth the return shipping for them to get them back. But the cameras are pricier, so I can see them doing the RMA return. I'll happily print a label to slap on the box; least I can do...
@probablysteve I'm with you on this. I'm trusting meh would pay for return shipping, but even so, these guys have sent me socks for FREE. I like meh. I will work with meh on this. Stuff happens.
whoever was packing the boxes must have drunk or high
@sumthakkar NOW we know what happened to @snapster 's pot joke! The dudes in Shipping smoked that shit up!
@Wamzlee geez, what did you sell for $15,000?
@katylava We deal in vintage Star Wars collectibles. Can't recall the actual figure, but it was quite rare. Freak incident where everything was packed but invoices got mixed up. We told the person how much it was worth, and they just said "Meh" and sent it back. Good samaritan right there.
I am gonna keep the cameras and return the lamps when they come. The lamps seem silly now that I have fun cameras.
@y1fsm8s NICE GUY ALERT
@y1fsm8s Keep them both and pay Meh the $20 per. Or know, when Meh collapses, that you are part of Why We Can't Have Nice Things.
Mine hasn't been delivered yet. Would it be easier to do the "return to sender" thing if we don't open it? I don't know how these things work.
@rhcurry02 @barnabee @Robco44 We just sent another email out detailing the options available, but if you decide to refuse the shipment and return it to us instead that works too.
@JonT Just to be sure - all packages should have cameras, right? I'd feel bad returning-to-sender the LEDs
Well - I can use the bleedin' camera, so like they say when they fire you from the Norwegian Hard-Boiled-Egg factory:
"Chuck 'em if they can't flake a yoke!"
Actually - I'll gleefully pay an upcharge for the camera - if only to watch Urk put some 'Face on his egg...'
Cheers
Jim
Must be time for a new experiment, will people send back an item that was sent out by mistake?
@wisenekt ... If we love meh we will.
I am cool with an upgrade charge... and just keep both... Something reasonable... VERY reasonable...
I'm so confused.
This is why we need delivery drones!
I just had my 2 lanterns delivered OH WAIT it is one 1 IP Video Camera.... Has any solution been arrived at meh?
@clselfridge ... This then is no good!!.. 1 camera for twenty bucks yet when first offered it was two for thirty-four? Where's the bargain in that? Even fifteen for one would be a deal but, twenty? Think I'll return just because of that. (not taking into consideration that it isn't purple)..
@unkabob I love purple.
I like purple.
@djslack fingerless mittens, aka arm warmers, think leg warmers for hands.
@vampje pretty much like i imagined, only more so. (Longer, anyway)
Like a knit fuzzy cast.
@brainmist yes! totally. also a scarf, like pashmina scarf with meh on it, maybe in small letters to make a design.
Did anyone who ordered these get the correct shipment?
If Meh wants the camera back and pays for shipping, I will box it up and ship it back. Maybe we will get a red bag if we play nice and send em back. An obvious screw up but Meh has treated me well with socks and stuff so I don't have any problems helping them out of an "Oh Shit" Moment.
@mdrcoast Ditto.
I like purple.
@mdrcoast I find myself wondering if there's a convenient way of getting other people to ship their cameras to ME instead (paying for shipping and the $20, of course!) But Meh would probably prefer to have their stock back.
My database team has a profound saying:
"Databases are hard".
Hey guys the lantern you sent me doesn't look anything like the lanterns in the pic at all. It's not a very good lantern, either. Doesn't really light anything up. Matter of fact, it kinda looks like one of those wireless camera thingeys.
I thought I ordered the camera, lol. I threw out all the packaging. Can I just pay you for the camera?
@Bingo And every couple of weeks at that. I have the same reaction -- no reason to be peeved, but I'm curious from a logistics point of view.
@Bingo - It's the goat's fault.
@Bingo i am also curious. i bet this will be an interesting ohshit report
@KDemo I hope the hapless goat's head doesn't roll too hard. I'm...actually pretty happy with this substitution.
Got the email before I went to the mail today. Package is unopened. I will return upon receipt of a shipping label. Sorry you had a boo-boo.
Since mine came in Saturday when word was just getting around about this, I opened the box to check. Sure enough, not lights, but I totally blew my chances of just writing return to sender on the unopened package.
Have not gotten anything yet , but if I get the camera Can I keep it and you keep the latern?
Ok, just got the Meh "Your meh.com order of 2-for-Tuesday: Eveready Compact LED Area Lights has shipped." Two tracking numbers ... Is that one area light per tracking number? Or two/box/tracking number? Seems silly to ship them separately; but, then, shipping cameras was silly to begin with. Perhaps this is merely a customer loyalty test...
@pweber one is the lights that were just sent out, the other is the camera which was sent by in error a week or two ago.
@alexpope That's seriously funny, because I'm already sitting here with a camera in my lap.
Well I was curious why I got a camera today but now I know I'm not alone. I had a good laugh about it, no reason to be upset. I can't wait to see the "Oh Shit" report on this one.
Would you guys like to pull the redirect/return on my package? It doesn't arrive for another 3 days per fedex (probably 2)
I was thinking about this camera, so make me a good enough deal and I might buy it. Otherwise feel free to send me a shipping label to get this to the original sap who bought it.
I thought the cameras were supposed to come with the free socks. :D
@ruouttaurmind Very reasonable.
@MikeyMike Just got the word from Meh... $20 each and you can keep it. https://mediocre.com/deals/insteon-camera-that-you-didnt-order
@ruouttaurmind YAY! Damn, I wish I'd ordered 10!
I'm wondering if you can arrange for FedEx to pick it up at my house to deliver it to the post office? It's what you do and it adds two days of shipping time to every order.
actually I'll probably spend the $20 and buy the thing... that does make it quite a deal.
@Noddy93 vivacious-mystical-cheese... thanks for the socks
So, if we don't want them can we just refuse the package when it arrives, or is it better to do some other rigmarole so it's cheaper?
@kazriko you can do that.
@JonT I've got three packages coming from you this Thursday, any way I can spot which one is the camera so I can return to sender??
@alexpope i think the tracking number is on the label
Hmm, I haven't gotten the cameras yet, but I'll probably just buy them when I do; they look fairly snazzy.
@JonT Excellent! Thanks for the surprise deal, Meh! Hmmm, must ...not....click....'Buy Another'....
@brainmist oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. DON'T BUY MORE THAN THE NUMBER OF CAMERAS YOU RECEIVED, EITHER.
@OldCatLady sure that would be ideal
@JonT I'm on a business trip on the other side of the country for at least one and maybe two more weeks.. Is it ok if I do nothing until I get home and check the package?
@brainmist Aaannnnnnd I just bought the router. Goddamnit, Meh! You know I'm weak!
@kadagan Yep, that's totally fine!
@JonT Mistakes happen. Send me the label and I'll get them right back to you guys!
@JonT so we can't give you $20 for something that won't ever come?
@JonT how are you going to punish those who pick neither option?
@JonT Cool! Is there a way to validate that we got the camera shipped? Is it guaranteed if our order has two tracking numbers?
Upon receipt, I'm cool with the option you've provided to purchase..
@username They can't. other than not dealing with that person in the future. you/we are under no obligation to return the unrequested merch.
@sohmageek whatever works best for you, if you'd like to wait until you receive the camera to 'buy' it that's totally reasonable.
@JonT so even though you said not to. If we wanted to spend $40 on one we would just "buy" 2? :) nah don't want to cause issues like buying 2 or buying and returning it on you guys!
I went ahead and bought the camera for $20.00. Appreciate the discount!!!!!
@mdrcoast Same here. Thanks, meh!
Need to turn off the 5$ shipping cost...... then I will click away!!
@bcsample @brainmist just added something to my post up above there, we're going to refund the $5 shipping for anyone that has to pay it.
@JonT S'okay, now I've gone and routered. I think I need to switch to something less addictive, like crack.
@JonT Which one do you guys prefer, us to buy or return? Which saves Meh more money?
@sohmageek we reduced price of it to the point where it costs more for you to keep it but that is just cost going to the freight company. We like you better than the freight company so keep it if you have any use (or resale/gift potential).
@JonT DONE! But lets not do this again.. shall we?
@bcsample yea, man. I don't want to put more money in and hope for a refund.
Let's do this again next Tuesday. This is fun.
@wetsuit Like a high-level fuku. I wonder how many of us would be able to resist the $20 Mystery Box? Obviously not me....
@brainmist do you know what we would get... these fucking cameras again. ha.
@thenewtbaron for $20? I'm in for 3.
Can the return labels print in purple or Georgia red?
@jseay65 Purple!
it's even funnier if you're me, because meh packages take forever to get to my house. so after reading about the camera/lantern snafu for days, I get a package from meh. since I ordered lanterns, I fully expect to see cameras.
@tightwad They could potentially refuse to sell to abusive users. There's some cutting-off-of-noses in that.
@tightwad yes, I was pretty certain it wasn't REALLY an experiment... or WAS I?
@andipandi I didn't think so but it CAN be a good case study. I would love to see the numbers on how many take each available path.
@tightwad Hm. Meh should offer us up as an experimental cohort to recoup costs. Except that now that we've thought of it, and are no longer unbiased.
Did anyone's head roll for this? (hope fully not)...if not, was a penance decided on that could be fun to witness?
question for the meh gods: which is better for y'all financially, for me to purchase the wireless spy camera at $20 or to ship it back? i'm flexible either way - want to help y'all out as much as possible with the money bleed.
@annwat I would think buying it would be cheaper. The shipping costs to return all these is going to be asstronomical.
@annwat strictly speaking it would probably be cheaper for us for the return, but all of the money spent would go to the freight company. If you have any value under $30 in keeping it, then we'd far more rather benefit you than the freight company.
@snapster ok, when it arrives i'll purchase it. i can use it to spy on my cleaning people.
@annwat I was wondering the same thing... haven't received mine yet...but will purchase it when I get it...tracking says 2 more days. Thanks MEH.
@annwat Where is the thread that gives return/purchase options- I got the camera and ill
i think i will just buy it, i guess. since i liked all the previous conflict resolution mehdiocre provided.
except those Toccs headphones. those were turrible.
@username BLUETOOTHS MODO HAS BEEN OPENED!
why only one camera though?
@username part numbers are created for the 2-fer packs and then later the wrong part number was mapped to the order batch. warehouse had no idea.
@snapster Did this cause any problem with supply for the camera 2-fer? I ordered one (2) of them, as well as one (2) lamp(s).. so it looks like I may have plenty of cameras!
@kadagan not to say that we haven't made other mistakes, but the two shouldn't be connected by this mistake
@SkyyPunk lol
Here's the page:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0181-unordered-merchandise
With any luck the "Honest Shipping Mistake" example is what resonates here.
We are working on the solution for the accidental $5 freight still being included for those who are not VMP - the likely solution with have an update that @JonT will relay. (in addition to refunding anyone who has paid the $5 extra)
I'm personally very sorry about the hassle of this - we are taking the matter very seriously.
@snapster Is there any way we can pay the full $34 for the camera, instead of the discounted $20?
@snapster At the end of all this, I would be interested to know the % of people who returned the camera, bought the camera, told you "Cheer up sucker", etc. A simliare report to your Amazon gift card decorate Meh HQ would be an interesting read. Thanks for your transparancy about this and don't sack anyone over this if it was an honest mistake....
@cl4rk3 that was for 2 cameras
@username Well, whatever the quantity, I'd rather pay Meh the asked price for the deal that I'll be receiving. Cuz, you know, I like Meh and I would pay the original price even if it is because of a colossal, boneheaded blunder on their part.
@cl4rk3 cool. pay retail.
@snapster #clusterfuck
@snapster
@snapster Dudes, you're one of the few companies I have some affection for (I remember when Google was on that list.) I'm happy to help you over a bump in the road.
@username @cl4rk3 If I read things right earlier the $34 that they're talking about was 1/2 the cost of the two-fer that day.
@thenewtbaron Well, it's @BillLeHecka's fault, not mine this time.
@snapster While I've given you slight amounts of crap for this and even bought the damn camera, I want to say "thanks".
https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-eveready-compact-led-area-lights?sort=most-votes
@thenewtbaron with this response you not only proved you didn't read what I wrote but also that what I surmised about your approach to be correct.
You must be fun at parties.
@thenewtbaron Meh.
Lol...
@DDLOCKARD I hope you're kidding about buying extras.. @JonT said it clearly here: https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-eveready-compact-led-area-lights#54fe268454d7d27000d0bf73
@DDLOCKARD It reminds me of the old joke: A politician is being bribed with a new Corvette. Pol says "We can't take bribes!" "Then I'll sell it to you for $100." "Great, I'll take two!"
@DDLOCKARD "help you gays out", lol
I'm a little confused. I received 2 cameras, and the deal on the cameras was a "2-for-Tuesday". If I choose to keep both, am I being asked to pay $20 total, or $40 total?
@crbesq $20 EACH. $40 for two cameras that sold for $68 for two on February 17th.
Ok showed the wife,she got a kick out of miss spelling guys,was a easy mistake u and a are so close to each other,only about five inches!
@DDLOCKARD that's what he and or she said?
@BabyBear it could be worse... you could be stuck with a big K by your name
@Noddy93 I'm sure they'd find some way to mess it up too. :'P
@BabyBear regarding the weather radios, two of my three radios died. Well, one died completely, and another has a flaky battery connection. I just opened up the third one - hopefully it'll last.
I'll bail your sorry ass out and just buy the camera...
@sohmageek the soap dispensers were faboo... some of the favorite gifts i handed out at work last year
I'm thinking about paying the return shipping myself. Maybe the Fuku Bag fairy will be nice to me .....
You confuse "niceness" with 'pathetic stupidity'.
I'd love to see a meh name your price transparency on these... cost to meh__ minimum $20 going price $35... price can be between $20-999... may be interesting who would pay more...
oh and where is that scapegoat anyway....
@sohmageek yeah, after reading some of these comments, is be inclined to give more. Maybe I'll just stay VMP to help compensate.
@brainmist staying VMP doesn't help me promote them. It helps me buy stuff from them. :p
@sohmageek Exactly!
give me a label, ill ship back the cam :-)
Appreciate the quick resolution and decent deal on the Insteon Camera That I (originally) Didn't Order.
That puts meh at a 9 - 10 net promoter score from me--if you're NPS adherents and find such things meaningful.
@ruouttaurmind Thank you for that. I couldn't make heads nor tails of all the chatter.
After checking with hubby, it looks like I'll just refuse the package when it arrives. We have no need for the cameras, and refusing it will send it back free.
@Pony So tl;dr: WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!
@jont Instead of mailing back the camera, can I drop it off?
Fuck all this noise; I'm still waiting on my Goddamn socks to ship and all this is going to do is delay getting that issue resolved, I guarantee it.
Heh.
@AnnaB your time wasted is the most regretful element of our mistake. I appreciate the sacrifice.
@snapster I think sacrifice is a bit of a stretch but thanks for the comment, nonetheless.
@AnnaB most post offices have a drop box you can drop the package off anytime 24 hours
http://imgur.com/P2Lk2jv
Don't worry, Meh. I'm sending back the camera. BUT, sell some fucking outdoor hammocks soon. Me needz one for spring break!
Thanks for your help resolving our screw-up.
@snapster Thanks! Meh support (and CEO) kicking ass again! I'm getting to be more and more glad I ordered some shitty lanterns!
@kadagan no kidding!
@snapster Ughhh..
@snapster Free VMP is always nice. Thanks! My box of cameras is due tomorrow, and my awesome mail carrier already has instructions to send it back.
Good thing @unixrab didn't order these lanterns, or he would've ended up being a VMP unwittingly.
@dashcloud I'm sure they could find a way to exclude @unixrab from future free benefits. He doesn't want them and is vocal about it. Don't even know why he comes to this site except to troll the place about his dissatisfaction with VMP.
@cengland0 you're so 2014. Keep up. PLUS ...don't you remember your statement yesterday?
Is there a time span to pay for the camera?
I can afford it now-ish, but later in the week would be more convenient because of payday.
Also it won't arrive until payday anyway.
@Keyeno there's no time span in mode we're in. thank you!
I'll buy the camera. No problem there.
But I have another screwed up order, the earbuds sold on Feb 23. Bought 2 pair but never received a tracking number.
@Teripie You actually don't want them, they're completely worthless. Like I wish I could recycle them worthless.
@Teripie I got mine. Dont matter how bad they are fidelity is no longer an issue.
Is there any word on the return labels?
@anonasd We'll be sending out an update on this ASAP but it likely won't be until later in the week. We are working out the details as quickly as we can. Thanks for your patience in working with us on this.
@MEHcus thanks for the response, i went ahead and purchased the camera since it seemed in the forum like it would help meh the most.
@anonasd They're good cameras. I was telling someone they actually the first thing I've been waiting to come back up for sale because I'd buy another
Question: are you able to request termination of a delivery remotely? I still have not received the camera. Also, is return to sender an option?
@brandon Return To Sender is THE BEST option if you don't want the camera
@JerseyFrank Zero offense intended but I just want to double check with @JonT or @snapster in case they're bulk mailing prevents it.
@brandon It's definitely worth attempting but not sure how consistent postal carriers would be about it
@snapster I just 'refused' my two boxes from the mail carrier, and she said it was not a problem, they will mail it back to Meh.
@snapster Understood. The problem is it was a gift across the state so I'm trying to think of the lowest barrier to do it. Thank you @OldCatLady
@brandon None taken, sir.
I wish the other thread hadn't been locked, because 500 posts, no pagination, and finding @snapster and @JonT posts with actual information requires more effort than sending the camera back will.
@editorkid Control F
@editorkid we'll send an email once we have logistics (link to a label) to send out. Agree, this is difficult, especially on mobile.
@rockabettygirl That's what I thought, but didn't want to speak authoritatively when I haven't decided whether to open the box yet. Thanks!
@AmazingChicken The starter kit(hub) is needed for the mobile app(I think) not for general pc usage(if i read it right).
@clselfridge I hooked mine up, it gave me an address and I was able to use my phone from anywhere. Not sure how secure it is but you don't need a starter kit.
@mdrcoast From browser? Or from the app?
@rockabettygirl Most of them do. That's how I found out that I have possums infesting my patio. Did you know possums have FIFTY teeth?
@OldCatLady you could count them from a 648x480 camera in night vision mode?? How close was the camera to the possums? Lol
@kadagan About three feet, ground level through the patio door. I actually counted about a thousand but that's because it was a closeup. Wiki set me straight, and I am never looking at night views of the patio again. Nightmare stuff.
For anyone confused about what this camera is...
Mutter, mutter, mutter
At least the reset is easy.
Cheers
Jim
@starrigger They were two for $68.00. http://www.mehstalker.com/mehhistory.php
@KDemo Ah, thanks.
@starrigger - Thank @Lichme for Meh Stalker ;-)
@cengland0 Easy way, I said. :) I was thinking more along the lines of an off the shelf adapter to plug into my gorilla backup battery.
@rileyper take your time, we appreciate the effort.
@JonT Second payment paid :D thanks for accidentally sending me these cameras.
You guys are doofs. Loveable doofs though. Here's my $20. Gonna find a not-nefarious way to use this doohickey.
@thechinglish Sorry, but the non-nefarious cameras cost another twenty quid.
finally got my (single) camera yesterday.
I have not seen the instructions to ship it back yet.
could I just send it back to the "ship from" address on the box? or would that just result in Suite 100 filling up w/ returned cameras?
my camera wants to go home to meh, but doesnt know how
Hi, so I am pretty basic with tech knowledge and honestly don't want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to set this up.
@kim_mie77 sorry, but your dog has made us a better offer. if our plan works out, instead of you spying on the dog, we'll be watching you.
@kim_mie77 ask @chops
@kim_mie77 http://cache.insteon.com/documentation/2864-222qs-en.pdf Scroll down to advanced Setup
@kim_mie77 You should be able to just plug it in to your router and run this tool http://cache.insteon.com/documentation/2864app-windows.zip - then you can confiure it to connect to your wifi etc.
@kim_mie77
I bought a new mattress, a new bed frame, and then my phone broke and I got a new one. I need to wait until Friday to pay for the camera :-/
@vargasprime This was pretty much exactly how it went down for me also.
I have finally obtained a box which I assume contains a camera. I can't think of a good use for it, honestly. So dear Meh, how do I get this back to you so you can resell it to someone else?
@aperfecttool72 Check your email on record in the coming days - you should be receiving a label for returning it.
Thanks for the reply; having gotten my unordered camera today, I had the same question.
@jaremelz I did not use the app from insteon. I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ksorat.foscamremote&hl=en or you could just do a search for Foscam there are several options.
@clselfridge Thanks! Just tested and it works! Now off to happily pay meh.
Pulled the trigger and bought the "Insteon Camera That You Didn't Order" for $20. Thanks and you're welcome!
We've refunded your 2 extra purchases already, sorry for the confusion and thanks for helping us out.
i THINK I'LL JUST ROLL THE DICE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. tHANKS FOR THE UPDATE ANYWAY...
I got mine today, then bought it, now I'm reading the thread and getting very confused about setup. All my brain cells were burned up today trying to edit XML. Blergh.
insteon app: "reply to text message with code 1234 to allow insteon texts"
me: 1234
insteon: invalid code
me: blergh too hard must watch tv now.
now my DH is convinced this camera is malware because it wants to be connected to the router. Gah.
I never received an email with a return label and return instructions. Did the email go out yet?
I must have missed the info about how to pay for the cameras......
Can someone help me? Thanks
@deemkooo Go to: https://mediocre.com/deals/insteon-camera-that-you-didnt-order
We're still working out the solution for returning the cameras, we're trying to get the followup email with instructions out later today.
@smilingjack @Citykid @deemkooo
@JonT so now that we have a return label if we were to send something to you using that address but not that label would you receive it?
Give me return label. I don't want the wifi cam!!!
okay, i bought it.... i don't need it, i don't want it, but i bought it........not sure what i will do with it....but just can't resist a bargain........
@bullrocky ebay it for $50, pocket the $30
Lanterns, actual lanterns arrived! After scrounging for batteries (missed the meh deal, wah) they both work, and are nice little lanterns. I had planned one for boychild, and one for emergency birthday present supply, but girlchild ran off with the other. Should have bought more.
@andipandi They are super-cute little lanterns, aren't they? We ALL should have bought more.
@andipandi They are super-cute little lanterns, aren't they? We ALL should have bought more.
@andipandi Yeah... I can't wait to give one to my daughter.
I just wanted to say I'm happy with my 6 lanterns and, thanks to Meh, my collection of SEVEN cameras. So happy, in fact that I just ordered one of those "$100" starter hubs from eBay, for $30.
@vlpronj What is even in the "Starter hub"
Just received my lanterns. Seems to be well made, but they are very, very dim. I ordered four, and will likely need all four to create enough light to be useful. In retrospect, maybe I should have spent $20 on a single brighter lantern. Can't say I'm thrilled with my purchase, can't say I'm disappointed. I'm just sort of... meh. Stands to reason, innit.
so USPS left the delivery of the cam on my porch when I wasn't home, so I couldn't refuse delivery. it's unopened--can I just write RETURN TO SENDER on the box and drop it in a blue mail box??
@alexpope Yes
Has there been any word of a link to a shipping label? Twenty bucks is not a bargain if you don't have a need for the camera.
@jsmc1957 not yet, no.
We received 2 lanterns last Saturday, so we are happy campers. :-)
They worked well with the Fujitsu batteries bought from Meh. You light up my life. ;-)
My wife and I got LOL reading all the funny replies to my other post.
All these chaos make Meh fun - posting random stories and comments; selling, buying, and getting random stuffs.
To up our game, I propose a white elephant sale next.
First, Meh will sell a Fuku for $5. As usual, buyers may get any random items.
The new twist is buyers may also get any random items returned by other customers.
For example, some lucky buyers may get an IP camera.
Instead of wasting $, packaging, and gasoline to return an item, Meh will send label for first customer to ship the item to second customer.
How is that for a creative and fun solution? Or another logistic nuclear bomb?
Once again, I like to clarify I am not a Meh employee, just a Meh fan. :-D
Btw, it is a bad idea to refuse shipment. Once I refused a Sony camera, and Dell did not receive it.
I think refused shipments are not guaranteed to return to senders, and there is no way to track them.
So.... any word on the shipping labels?
@arualflower it looks like I just received mine in email.
Thanks for making it so easy to pay for them.
I just paid for mine, and there is an option on that popup to buy another at $20- is that allowable? -any Meh rep pls???
Oh, and Latest-Derelict-Volleyball:
@PhysAssist Oh, and my lanterns just arrived today, can't wait for night fall- [I'm at work and can't go into a dark closet here....]
@PhysAssist don't pay for more cameras than we shipped you, we're not sending out any extras if you 'buy' more.
@JonT Aw. c'mon, I keep it and save you the trouble of re-stocking it, and you begrudge me a small favor like this...
@JimCil Blanket email....I got it too.
@JimCil everyone affected got the email, returning the cameras is just an option for those that don't have a use for them and don't want to buy them.
@JonT Are you saying all of the emails have gone out, because I haven't received mine yet.
@PhysAssist @JonT Thanks for clarifying!
@JimCil de nada!
@JonT Have the emails with the labels gone out yet? Nothing in my inbox or spam folder.
@JonT I have not received the email and have 2 cameras I'd really like to send back
@JonT I haven't received the return e-mail either. I may end up buying the camera, but am waiting on the return e-mail before I decide either way.
@JonT Really? I never received the email for sending the camera back. Back to check this thread to see what the holdup is.
@JonT I didn't receive the email
Finally got those cameras paid for. Definitely the best order number yet: puzzling-waterproof-gerbil
Still no email about return label. Not sure what emoticon is appropriate in this circumstance.
@AGreen312 I sat here for a while trying to think of a good one and nope, I also turn up blank
Seems like some people were missed on the return label emails, we're looking into it and collecting some info before resending them.
@vampje @donius @editorkid @AnnaB @mediobarkre @arualflower @AGreen312 @BabyBear
@JonT I'm still waiting for my email too.
@JonT I'm still waiting for labels as well.
@JonT My label arrived -- I'll get the camera out sometime soon. (I'm too hip or old or both to own a printer so have to wait for that rare moment when no one's looking at work.)
@JonT I didn't get my return label. I'll be glad to send it out once I get it! Thanks!
@nalesean @katblue @aringer @TBoneZeOriginal added all of you to our list and we'll have emails with labels out to you soon.
@JonT Thanks!
@JonT I'm also waiting for the email with label.
@JonT Add me to the list as I have not received an email with return instructions either. Thank you!
For $20, it's a pretty sweet camera, once I found a decent free app for the phone.
Still waiting for a return label!
I have not received any return labels from you guys.
@tbgolladay @andrewkim47 added both of you
Also still waiting for a return label!
@lakersfankb81 got you.
@JonT Need one of them shiny labels as well
@anty8384 added you as well.
@JonT I'm still waiting for a return label as well!
@Bimmie added.
@tightwad More of this kind of post please!
@dashcloud If I could afford to I would...I like modding
Can I be added for a return label as well? Thank you.
@analogvike you're on the list.
I too was missed on the return label list.
@brasidas @migmacur @arualflower @noonehere I had to send a bunch of these manually, but you should have gotten them yesterday!
Can I be added for a return label?
No Return label. I guess it will go to goodwill soon. Now sure what to do with it.
@arualflower goodwill will appreciate it!
Nice. Can't wait to float them in my pool!
No label here.
@lhr Adding you to my list. I'll make sure you have a label today.
Hey, can someone from Meh tell me if I already paid for my IPCam? I seriously can't remember and I'm not sure if I paid for via the link or with my account.
@AgentDiscount To make sure your support request doesn't get missed, write in here: https://meh.com/support
@AgentDiscount goto this address https://mediocre.com/orders log in with your meh username and password and you can see if you purchased it... also you should be able to see what card you used.
I did not get a return label. Is it supposed to be emailed to me or snail-mailed?
Heck, I forgot I had this! It's been collecting dust in an unused room. I've never received a return label - want it back?
Just remembered that I forgot that I decided to buy the camera....Done! :-) And the lights were awesome too - one now lives in my car for my Get-Home bag.
I just remembered I still have your camera, I need a return label to send this mofo back.
@Robco44 Have you checked your spam folder? They sent and resent return labels several times so far. Though it does seem a few were still lost to the matrix.
@Thumperchick Nothing in spam/junk, the last correspondence I received was on 03/09/2015.
@JonT - There's another label orphan here. Is there a way to get @Robco44 another return label?
@Robco44 Same here, just thought about this today as I found the box while I was digging around my pile of meh.
I also need a return label, not in my spam/junk folder. This is my third request and I am not going to ask anymore for it.
@brulim pretend it was a secret fuku and keep it... legally you own it.
Forgot I had this. No return label in my email, regular or spam. I need a label to send it back.
@ryanlutz pretend it was a secret fuku and keep it... legally you own it.
never got a return label, last email from meh was from 3/9/15...asked twice and still haven't opened this thing but I guess I will soon
Was there ever an oh shit report for this fuck up? I'd like to know how many cameras were sent out in error and how many were received back, etc.
