About The Winery
Winery: Usual Wines
Introducing our take on the modern wine spritzer, in a can. Made with clean, simple ingredients. A farm stand spritzer, in a can. All natural ingredients that make you want to drink straight out of the can. No concentrates, no colorants, and no flavorings. We let the grapes do the work so you can feel better while drinking and after.
Cans go where bottles can’t. Enjoy at home or on the go. When no glass is allowed, the perfect summer spritz to refresh your palate and outlook. So good, you may not be able to stop at one. Crack, sparkle and sip. Celebrating the everyday is the new Usual.
I’m not sure whether I’ll get these, but I’ll vouch for the previous Usual Wines bruts, rose and white wine offered here a few months ago. They were pretty good!
This appears to be about 25% more expensive than the canned beverage section at my local Walmart, but that section is almost always sold out so this is a pretty reasonable deal in my opinion.
@lonocat That’s actually much more expensive because the ABV is so low, the Meh deal is about 15% cheaper than that. I was comparing to, for example, Mike’s products.
@Alereon@OnionSoup Yup. I have tried a variety of « hard seltzers » and some are not bad. But basically you are getting beer-type alcohol (that is the classification they are sold under) mixed with fruit flavors and usually some sugar, sometimes even other sweeteners like stevia. Often citric acid for tartness. And always hard to say what « natural flavors » means. Definitely not a wine product.
There are some canned wine products with seltzer (sparkling water). Trader Joes has some Italian ones around 4/$6, this is the cheapest. A better one with French wine mixed with carbonated French mineral water goes for 6/$15.
@hchavers@warpedrotors speaking of coffee nut cider but you know what they say, he can’t drink hot coffee on a hot summer day you won’t survive the apocalypse, especially the zombie one
Actually, you can make this into a margarita. Sparkling rosé margaritas are a thing. Just add tequila, lime juice and simple syrup or triple sec to taste.
These shitty overpriced alt-oholic beverages need to fucking end yesterday. I saw this garbage at the store the other day & realized it’s now a commercial trend to see how stupid people have gotten about seltzers.
@Drez143@mehvid1 I found the calorie content on their site. If I did the math right it’s 127.5 calories per can. 75 calories for 5 ounces. https://archive.is/lFrFS
@Drez143@TimW great find. I admit I didn’t care that much so I only did a cursory search. My first guess was 125, but I didn’t really have a basis for this estimate, so thought it safer to guess higher, so as not to unintentionally entice someone who cares more about such things.
Cheers to the Memorial Day weekend. Y’all be safe.
Even thought I knew already what was being sold I originally read the email title as hand sanitizer not hard seltzer… and I was thinking, “what the heck?”.
@Kidsandliz@OnionSoup I had some hand sanitizer in a little spray bottle type dispenser. It was more of a regular liquid consistency. The taste made it hard to drink more than a few bottles, and don’t even get me started on the headaches.
@OnionSoup If you have both kinds of order outstanding, it is probably best to simply wait until both have arrived before opening either. In that way, you have at least a 50-50 chance of using the one to either drown your sorrows over or celebrate your luck in the other. (It would be churlish of me to suggest that the IRK might be needed (or able?) to assuage regret over the potables purchase.)
@BergyD I was just coming back here to see if anyone’s has shipped yet. Glad to see yours arrived, hopefully mine will ship soon… beginning to get minorly concerned, it doesn’t normally take Meh this long to ship something.
Yay! It finally arrived… Took it’s time, and I ordered some things weeks after this on meh/side deal that got here before these…
Still better late than never… Kinda…
Only… I had literally just take my first painkiller pill when it arrived and I can’t have any alcohol while on the painkiller…
… So it’s like meh is taunting me.
Oh well, my wife will enjoy these, I won’t get to find out if I like them or not.
We’ve been enjoying these for the last couple weeks with our hot weather, but tonight I discovered one that looked weird. I’m pretty sure it’s still okay to drink, but leads me to believe that the can was not filled all the way by the winery.

Wine coolers?! Flashback to the '90s.
@yakkoTDI the 90’s?

What about the 80’s
wine in cans seems like a bad idea? wine in boxes, however, sign me up!
@canneddirt you clearly did not grow up in the 70s…
@canneddirt cardboardeaux!
@canneddirt @haydesigner
What? You pine for the days of gallon jugs of Boone’s Farm Apple Wine?
@canneddirt Your user name suggests you think cans would be better used for dirt?
@canneddirt @ironcheftoni
/youtube wine In a box by Zane lamprey
@canneddirt @haydesigner @Kidsandliz Strawberry Hill baby Strawberry Hill
@Kyeh or bread. as god intended.
@canneddirt @Cerridwyn @haydesigner @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @OnionSoup
Wow. I had totally forgotten that.
@canneddirt
Bread? You must be from Boston.
/showme some WILD Mixed Spritzers

I’m not sure whether I’ll get these, but I’ll vouch for the previous Usual Wines bruts, rose and white wine offered here a few months ago. They were pretty good!
I’m gonna go for it. What’s the worst that could happen?

This appears to be about 25% more expensive than the canned beverage section at my local Walmart, but that section is almost always sold out so this is a pretty reasonable deal in my opinion.
@Alereon only 25% cheaper?

Maybe not a specialty, but this is a 12 pack
@lonocat That’s actually much more expensive because the ABV is so low, the Meh deal is about 15% cheaper than that. I was comparing to, for example, Mike’s products.
@Alereon sorry, I didn’t check ABV,
But then I don’t drink “Barbie Beer”
@lonocat Meow!

@Alereon spritzer vs hard seltzer probably. Not identical. I would expect a spritzer to be more expensive as it should be a more quality product.
@Alereon @OnionSoup Yup. I have tried a variety of « hard seltzers » and some are not bad. I’ll try 'em. The previous “beaker” wine was great.

Wine is good, but I would rather have a cider on a hot day.
@hchavers hot apple cider?
@hchavers @warpedrotors speaking of coffee nut cider but you know what they say, he can’t drink hot coffee on a hot summer day you won’t survive the apocalypse, especially the zombie one
Still not clear on what that 90 day warranty gets you in this case…
(Plus, I’m assuming the usual list of states applies here?)
Meh can’t even compete with CVS.
Actually, you can make this into a margarita. Sparkling rosé margaritas are a thing. Just add tequila, lime juice and simple syrup or triple sec to taste.
@Salanth So, make a margarita and then pour some of this in?
@dgfait https://www.liquor.com/recipes/sparkling-rose-margarita/
@dgfait @Salanth I thought this was odd:
Margaritas are sweet, usually?!
These shitty overpriced alt-oholic beverages need to fucking end yesterday. I saw this garbage at the store the other day & realized it’s now a commercial trend to see how stupid people have gotten about seltzers.
@dvermilion how stupid
@dvermilion so… you’re on the fence?
@dvermilion Hear, Hear!!

@dvermilion
4% alcohol! WTF I would get sick from drink so much before I even got a buzz.
Any idea of the calorie content per can?
2.5 grams of sugar doesn’t sound too bad.
@Drez143 probably ~150.
@Drez143 @mehvid1 I was wondering about calories, too. The only advantage the spritz-type drinks have is the low calories.
@Drez143 @mehvid1 I found the calorie content on their site. If I did the math right it’s 127.5 calories per can. 75 calories for 5 ounces. https://archive.is/lFrFS

Even thought I knew already what was being sold I originally read the email title as hand sanitizer not hard seltzer… and I was thinking, “what the heck?”.
@Kidsandliz hand sanitizer is normally too thick. This makes it unpleasant to drink.
@Kidsandliz @OnionSoup I had some hand sanitizer in a little spray bottle type dispenser. It was more of a regular liquid consistency. The taste made it hard to drink more than a few bottles, and don’t even get me started on the headaches.
/giphy drab-incognito-mallard

Since this isn’t the wine site, I’m assuming no « Lab Rats » for this?
@pmarin No, just the usual whiners. Or should that be the Usual Winers?
Fruit wines? Where’s Herb Ertlinger?
@bren01
I just happened on that S1 episode last night! (Hope no ladybugs were harmed in the production.)
Don’t want to get my hopes up (like last time).
Available in Alabama?
Don’t come for my White Claws. I love them.
Looking forward to a great summer spritzer! Thanks!
You found my weakness. I am powerless against the call of spritzers.

Dear Meh,
I am disappointed you chose to ship the IRK before the spritzers. Don’t you know I will need the alcohol?
a) to strengthen my resolve before opening the IRK.
And
b) to wash away my sorrows after opening the IRK.
Can I formally request you send the booze first next time please?
@OnionSoup If you have both kinds of order outstanding, it is probably best to simply wait until both have arrived before opening either. In that way, you have at least a 50-50 chance of using the one to either drown your sorrows over or celebrate your luck in the other. (It would be churlish of me to suggest that the IRK might be needed (or able?) to assuage regret over the potables purchase.)
Meh,
I am impressed. They don’t taste half bad. Dare I say I may purchase them again…
Yes, they just came. Yes. I am day drinking. Worry about yourself.
@BergyD I was just coming back here to see if anyone’s has shipped yet. Glad to see yours arrived, hopefully mine will ship soon… beginning to get minorly concerned, it doesn’t normally take Meh this long to ship something.
@OnionSoup I got shipping notification and it was here like 3 hours later!
Yay! It finally arrived… Took it’s time, and I ordered some things weeks after this on meh/side deal that got here before these…
Still better late than never… Kinda…
