You Will Learn So Mehch

To celebrate this new Screenprint Sunday design by Apelad, one of our favorite artists, we’re going to share with you a few truly mediocre facts. Take a look:

• Giraffes are known for their stunning long necks, giving them unmatched height and allowing them to graze for food far off the ground, but did you know that many experts have described their hooves as “just fine” and “decent, I guess” and “I’ve seen better”?

• There are close to 85,000 extant species of mullosks in the world today. Looking at fossils, it’s possible to find somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 additional kinds. But did you know that no mollusk has ever written, directed, and starred in a popular web series that was later turned into a television show by a major network?

• The Boeing Everett Factory in Washington is the largest usable space by volume; with 4.3 million square feet of floor space (and a volume of 472 million cubic feet) there’s plenty of space to work. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, on the other hand, is the world’s tallest building, standing 2,717 feet in the air. By comparison, my house is a one-story bungalow of about 1,000 square feet, but did you know it is the only one of these three structures to currently contain my dog?

• A worm can be split in two. This does not, as some believe, result in two worms. Instead, the earthworm’s head will grow a new tail, while the earthworm’s severed tail will not grow a new head. But did you know, in spite of these amazing regeneration abilities, no worm has ever served as the CEO of a Fortune 500 company?
