Its time. It's time.
Sorry, early adopters. When we offered this SteelSeries Stratus iOS game controller last year, we said it was “Ahead of its time”. 146 of you jumped on it anyway, at $45 each, boldly going where iOS gaming had not quite gone yet.
What a difference a few months makes. This will be the year mobile game revenues will overtake console game revenues. And Apple dropped the price for Apple TV while iOS games just keep getting more and more sophisticated. That day we said was coming - “the day our smartphones replace our game consoles” - is just about here.
And now we’re offering this controller for $30. Tough luck if you bought this or Apple TV last year. Being ahead of your time comes at a price.
Let’s say you want to do this: you’re playing an MFi-compatible iOS game on Apple TV with this Steel Series Stratus Bluetooth controller - be it Asphalt 8: Airborne or Sonic CD or NBA 2K14 or Ms. PAC-MAN or whatever - and you want to continue the same game with the same controller on your iPad in your bedroom. Today, that will cost you a total of $99 ($30 for this, $69 for Apple TV). Just a few short months ago, that would have set you back $144 ($45 for this, $99 for Apple TV). Ouch.
But don’t let it get you down, early adopters. You were there first. You have bragging rights. You have memories nobody can ever take away. The only thing you don’t have is an extra 45 bucks.
