Sphereo True Wireless Stereo Bluetooth Speakers with Charging Base
- Cute little Bluetooth speakers that charge on a cute little wireless charging base
- You’d be surprised how much nicer it is to charge something without plugging it in
- They play in true wireless stereo, which is more than most large, un-cute Bluetooth speakers can say
- At this size the bass isn’t gonna exactly loosen your molars, but we were surprised at how great they sound
- Model: SPHEREOX2 (We didn’t like the name of this product, so do we like it more when it’s in ALL CAPS and lacking spacing characters? No.)
What's Not In A Name?
These Sphereo Bluetooth speakers have almost everything: Good sound, wireless charging, stereo functionality, and a low price.
The only thing they’re missing is a non-shitty name.
We get it (we think). “Sphereo” is trying to be a portmanteau of “sphere” and “stereo,” since they’re sorta shaped like spheres and have stereo sound. But what could have been a clever way of highlighting a distinguishing characteristic of these Bluetooth speakers (i.e. stereo sound instead of the typical mono) is overshadowed by the shittiness of the name.
Are we being too harsh on the name “Sphereo”? Does it matter what the speakers are called if they sound good and charge wirelessly? Yes, it does, and no, we’re not.
Consider this: When first reading the name of these speakers did you at first think they were made by the techie toymaker Sphero? Only one letter separates them, after all. And one is a hugely popular brand with Star Wars license deals, whereas the other is … not.
In fact, when you search “Sphereo,” Google asks “Did you mean: Sphero?” in its obnoxious, paternalistic fashion. In fact, even when you force Google to search for “Sphereo,” the top results are YouTube videos in which users have misspelled the toy.
Who would give their product a name that would struggle so much in search results? Apparently a company called “Moxxi,” which loses in search results to the Borderlands character [Mad Moxxi](Do you use the same username everywhere? )
and might confuse some aged readers who think of the invigorating soft drink:
Plus their logo looks like it should be slapped on an energy drink can from the mid-2000s:
All that said, we’re glad that “Moxxi" decided to name their Bluetooth speakers “Sphereo.” Not only did we get to make fun of them relentlessly for it, but it means we get to sell their solid product at a low price.
So let’s raise our Moxxi-and-vodkas high and give a toast: To shitty names!
