Quirky Ohm Qi Charger
- A Bluetooth speaker and Qi inductive charging base, which charges the speaker and …
- Just so happens to charge the new iPhone X that people are pre-ordering today (as well as the iPhone 8 )
- Also works with loads of Android phones if you’re not into Kool-Aid
- Last time we sold it some people noted that your phone can slide down the charging face, which is slanted for some dumb reason, you so might have to prop or shim it up
- Even our spouses, who are usually extremely skeptical of Meh deals, asked us to buy more of these because the wireless charging “just works” and the portable speaker “is so handy”
- And get this, @mfladd, our resident curmudgeon, had no complaints after buying it. To be honest, that scared us a bit
- POHMM-WH01 (“Boss, should I make the model number an abbreviation of the product itself? How about ‘QQOHM’ for ‘Quirky Qi Ohm?” “No, that doesn’t look professional enough. Add some nonsense to it. Oh, and a hyphen. Gotta add that hyphen. Now, back to my unhealthy boss lifestyle of chomping on cigars and drinking brandy …")
Shim On You
Like any red-blooded American, you’ve got plenty of shims lying around the house. You’re always ready, shim in hand, to level a rickety barstool or uneven desk. But lately you haven’t had many good excuses to shim, and your shims are piling up.
Don’t worry, we’ve got you (and your shims) covered with this Bluetooth speaker and Qi charger. It’s got two platforms for wireless charging — one for the speaker and one for your other device (like the new iPhone Xs that people just so happen to be pre-ordering today). But the last time we sold it a couple users complained that their phones slip off the slanted charging platform.
Enter the shim.
If you’re one of the lucky purchaser whose phone slides down the slanted face of the wireless charger, you can finally put one of your many shims to good use. Just shim a shim — any shim — under the charger to get a flatter surface.
Of course, if you shim the charging dock with a thick shim, you may create the opposite problem on the other side of the charger, and your Bluetooth speaker might slide off. You’ve got two options: (1) swap your thick shims out for a slimmer shim, or (2) shim the other side of the charger to keep it level.
Obviously we recommend the second option, as it involves more shims, but the choice is yours. Since you are shimming both sides of the charger, it may become unstable depending on the length of your shims. But there’s an easy solution to that. Can you guess what it is?
More shims.
Just shim a couple shims of approximately the same width as the first two shims into the un-shimmed edges of your wireless charger. Now it should be fully shimmed and provide a stable foundation for charging.
So you see, you may not even need another Bluetooth speaker or Qi wireless charging base. But it doesn’t matter — you’ve got a pile of shims that need to shim something, and this is the perfect thing to shim.
(With your shims.)
