Flatten, Reduce
The gel contains retinol and allantoin so that it:
helps promote skin health, firmness, and elasticity to reduce the appearance of most types of scars, including surgical, burn, hypertrophic, and keloids.
Whereas the tape:
helps to reduce the appearance of both old and scars by helping to improve both color and texture of the scar while also smoothing and softening the skin.
And the Amazon reviews, by the way, are extremely strong. The gel, for example, earns a 4.2 out of 5 based on more than 17,000 ratings, while the tape gets a 4.4 based on more than 3,000 ratings.
But we’re not going to do a big deep dive and pull out a bunch of user testimonials. Why? Because, honestly, there’s a lot of talk about skin cancer and other serious stuff, and it feels exploitative to use that in the name of sales for a cheekily named deal site. But we will highlight a couple, one for each item:
Here’s a review for the gel from user George:
My hopes were not set high, since it’s been a few years since the surgery on my leg. Should have used this right after, but, but yet again, didn’t think about it. After a few months of using this daily (I did miss a few days here and there), There has been a slow but definite decrease in appearance of the multiple scars on my leg. I am impressed.
That’s good to know, right? It’s not just fresh scars this stuff works on. You can also use it on old ones too.
And here’s user Hoople’s take on the tape:
I get hypertrophic scarring. If I use this stuff religiously for 6 months, my scars remain flat. They do widen a bit, but don’t get hard, itchy and ropey. You can wash and reuse, but I don’t see the point at this price. I replace the tape once a week. It sticks great, even through showering, and can be cut into specific shapes for your situation.
The texture is important, and not just for appearance’s sake. A raised scar can also catch on stuff and cause irritation.
Yes, this is a pretty straightforward write-up for us. But, as we mentioned above, scars are often the result of something pretty intense or upsetting. So we’re just gonna say: if you’re dealing with some unwanted scarring, get some of this stuff. It works, apparently!
