You know what this scooter reminds us of? The Simpsons!

In the 2nd episode of the 5th season (“Cape Feare”), the family enters witness protection, taking up residence in Terror Lake, after Sideshow Bob is released from Springfield State Prison on parole. What they don’t realize, though, is that Sideshow Bob has actually stowed away under their car. After the long journey, he sneaks out, burnt and disheveled, and immediately steps on a rake. And then another. And then another. The shot pans out to show Krusty the Clown’s former sidekick in a veritable minefield of rakes.

It’s such an iconic gag that you might be surprised to learn that it’s only there to fill time. Apparently, that’s the origin story: the episode was running just a little short and they needed a few more seconds, so a writer suggested adding extra rakes.

Okay, maybe this connection between the scooter and the show is less about the product itself and more about the timing. Our point here is this: last-minute decisions might just result in something legendary. It’s true in television, and it’s true in gifting.

After all, it’s December 14th. Christmas is 11 days away. Is there still time to pick up a few knick-knacks here and there? Sure. But if there’s something major that your kiddo has been begging for all year, hopefully, you’ve already gotten it by now. In other words, it’s not really time to be shopping for that gift that’s going to make or break the holiday.

But! If you make the impulsive decision to get this scooter, you never know what could happen. Maybe your little one will say, “Oh, awesome! I’ve secretly wanted one of these!” Maybe they’ll ignore it in favor of whatever they asked for until the spring when they’ll take it out for a spin and realize how rad it is. Or maybe all the game consoles and RC cars will go untouched as your kid and a group of other local young misfits cruise the streets solving paranormal mysteries, the likes of which seem to occur with great frequency in your small Midwestern town.

And all because you were like, “Hey, why not? It’s not even a hundred bucks!”
