Carhartt Elements Dome Duffel

  • Dome-shaped duffle is round on both ends and high in the middle, like Ohio but without all the sad baseball fans
  • Choose 24", 28", or no duffel bag at all
  • One big compartment, interior hanging pocket, and one exterior waterproof pocket: if that can’t organize your stuff, then your stuff is too complicated
  • Haul handles and a removable shoulder strap for your carrying pleasure
  • Water-repellent 840D Nylon with triple-needle stitching where it counts: that’s Carhartt ttough
  • Model: OUT_120214B, OUT_120224B (just when we think we’ve seen it all, somebody sticks underscores in a model number)

We dome get it.

Choices, we like 'em. Choices are good. But sometimes, we have this sneaking suspicion that some choices are… how do we put this?.. Pointless? Gratuitous? Gimmicky?

Take duffel bags. There are basically three shapes. You’ve got your cylindrical ones, where the end pieces are circles. You’ve got your rectangular ones, where the end pieces have corners. And you’ve got your dome ones, like this, where the ends arc up over the top and meet in the middle.

Who cares?

OK, there are slight differences. The rectangular ones have a little more space, filling out those corners. The circular ones take up a little less space. And the dome ones might be a little better for some oddly curved spaces like an airline overhead bin. They’re not quite identical, we’ll grant you that.

That said: does anybody choose a duffel bag based on the shape? We can see choosing a duffel bag based on its size, of course. On its materials, sure. On its structure or flexibility, no doubt. On its arrangement of pockets or straps, or even on its color, that all makes sense. But shape? Who does that matter to? Why are we having such trouble picturing that consumer?

If you’re choosing this Carhartt Dome Duffel based on the famous Carhartt durability, or the 840D Nylon and Rain Defender water repellent, or because of the price, we understand. Enjoy.

But if you’re choosing it because of the dome shape, would you mind telling us why in the forum? Even if the answer is just “I fondly remember the Houston Astrodome” or “I have a dome-shaped hole in my life”, at least we won’t still be going crazy wondering.
