So Intelligent

The other day, smart locks. Today, smart switches.

Because it’s the New Year! 2025! As in: the future! Or actually: the present. And honestly, given the time lapse between when this is written and when this product runs, I’m actually coming to you from the recent past.

Which is sorta what this smart tech is like: some stuff that feels futuristic despite being very normal and, at this point, a little old.

Can we be honest? We know exactly what we’re doing here. January is a month for taking stock. You spend a lot of time looking to the future, setting goals and thinking about where you want to be a year from now. But the other thing that happens is you have a lot of thoughts that begin “It’s 2025, and I’m still…”

What?

Wearing band t-shirts like you did in college even though you’re solidly into your middle-aged years?

Plugging your phone into an ancient speaker dock you bought off Meh despite the fact that bluetooth speakers have been ubiquitous for over a decade?

Turning your lights on using a switch on the wall instead of your phone, like it’s the fucking 1950s?

We can’t help you with the first two. Well, actually, let’s clarify: we created the problem in the second one, and, as for the first one, if wearing band t-shirts in your 40s (and beyond) is wrong, we don’t want to be right. But we can help you with the last one. By selling these things. Choose between a 4-pack of dimmable or non-dimmable light switches. Then, install them–it’s not that hard (though, heads up, they do require a neutral wire)–and voilà: you got lights you can control from your phone. Or with your voice if you have an Alexa or Google Assistant.

Maybe we’re wrong about all this. Maybe you’ll be just as inclined to go all in on smart stuff in mid-April as you are at the beginning of January. Then again, you’re more likely to do home projects when you’re, you know, inside your home more…

What we’re trying to say is: you should buy these smart switches (if you want smart switches).
