It's A Looker

So… pretty cool label, huh?

When you name your winery ‘Dragon Ridge,’ you take a big risk in terms of marketing. Go too hard on the dragon-y motifs, it’s hard for wine drinkers to take your vineyard seriously. Avoid dragon-y touches altogether, on the other hand, and it’s like, why’d you even call it that in the first place?

Dragon Ridge’s label manages the perfect compromise. Elegant and refined with just a touch of medieval flare. Perfect for a Game of Thrones-themed party, while not nearly as embarrassing as the actual GoT-branded wines.

And yet, this is just how it is with wine sometimes, isn’t it? You go wine-shopping and you’re immediately confronted with roughly one billion different options that you’ve never heard of unless you’re a supreme wine dork. So, in lieu of knowledge about how they each taste, you find yourself gravitating toward certain cool-looking labels. But isn’t this shallow? After all, they always say not to judge a book by its cover. The same principle should be applied to wine, right?

Maybe.

But also, maybe not.

Look, we’ve designed and printed wine labels enough over the years to know that the two-piece die-cut ridge-shaped label on these Dragon Ridge bottles is neither easy to pull off nor cheap to produce. And doesn’t that show a commitment to quality in marketing that could very well carry over into the wine-making process?

Or, to bring it back to the book-cover analogy: No, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but you often can judge a publisher’s seriousness by the quality of its covers across its catalog.

What we’re saying is, buying a wine for its label isn’t as silly as it sounds in any case, and it certainly wouldn’t be silly today.

Of course, if this sale puts you in the mood for buying wine but you don’t see anything you want here, head over to Casemates to see what they’re selling today. And every other day too.
