Too Damn Hot
It was one of those days here recently. A hot day.
But, actually, more than a hot day. Because, on a hot day, you go outside and you’re like the nerds in hell from the Far Side comic, gleefully asking anyone and everyone, “Hot enough for ya?”
No, this was something different. The heat, humidity, and sunshine swirled into a disgusting cocktail that left me feeling nauseated just stepping outside. My glasses fogged up, and the seconds before my AC in the car really kicked into high gear felt as though they might be taking years off my life. When I arrived where I was going–the grocery store–sweat pooled in my sandals on the walk across the parking lot. We’re talking 50 feet traveled here max.
These kinds of days can be tough. It’s not like a dreary, upsettingly cold winter day, where the world is gray and the sun sets at 4 in the afternoon, and you have no choice but to hunker down and get cozy. No, the flowers are abloom and the sun is out! It looks so inviting! But then, once you’re out there, you realize the only thing you’re actually being invited to participate in is heat stroke.
Another difference: in the dead of winter, you don’t plan to be outside. You don’t buy tickets to the outdoor concert or baseball game, or book passes for the water park, or schedule a tee-off at the golf course. You don’t make plans to go have a picnic at the town beach with your two friends and their spouses and their kids, an event that was difficult to plan and impossible to rain-check, especially when it’s not even raining (if only!).
But you do in the summer.
What we’re saying is: sometimes, you’re gonna be out there, even when it’s hot as all shit. And when that happens, you’re gonna want these.
What are they? They’re little bladeless fans that you can wear like a neckless, clip to the waistline of your pants, or snap onto a car seat/stroller. (You can also set them up on a surface, but that’s not relevant to what we’re talking about here.) One set of batteries powers it for up to 8 hours, but with the USB cable you can just plug them into a power bank.
Also, they have LED lights, because sure, fuck it, why not? You can turn them on or off as you please
Look, 2 little fans for $15 is one of those purchases that’s impossible to regret, even if you use them once or twice a year. So get them. And stay cool out there, friends.
