5 million pages a day: Shoddy Goods 025
2Did you get (or give) page-a-day calendars as gifts? Every year, we each got one in our stockings, though I feel like it changed topics each year. (And every year, sometime around June, we realized we hadn’t been keeping up with the page turns and had to tear off a huge chunk to catch up.)
What calendars did you grow up sitting on the desk or hanging on the wall?

I used to get the Far Side desk calendars. The pages were routinely passed around and were the hit of the office.
This one in particular was my favorite - it spoke to me:
Growing up? None!
Not that many years ago on my office while they were coffee themed because well coffee
My mom used to get me Day Runner calendar refills, but I eventually lost interest in using them. I have gotten and given various Page-A-Day calendars over the years. For the office, my current favorite is the House of Doolittle 8"x17" three-month wall calendar. I like being able to see the current, past and future months at the same time.
Can’t remember any page-a-day calendars here. Years back, the calendar was chosen out of whatever was leftover in mid-to-late January when they were 75% off at the 99-cents store.
I’m waiting to rip into Stompbox365 - a different guitar pedal per day for 2025! But the Far Side calendars were a semi regular gift growing up. Such a weird comic, and so perfect.
All due respect to Mr. Larsen, but the favorite PAD around here is “365 Stupidist Things People Said”. I’ve been giving one to my husband every year for probably 20 years. Sadly, the world never runs out of material.
Dilbert was a staple of our geeky hallway offices (computer programmers on room sized IBM mainframes)
@wy9125 I got the Dilbert desk calendars until Scott Adams was cancelled for political reasons and they were no longer available. I see that they are once again being sold directly at dilbert.com.
@macromeh @wy9125 It wasn’t his political views but multiple occasions of publicly broadcasted racist remarks that lead to the axing.
@narfcake @wy9125 Disagree, but I don’t feel like debating it here.
Mine was Dilbert as well most years. I remember getting a sniglet one too. A puzzle/logic problem one, a cat picture one, a stupidest things people say one, and my favorite was a Dan Quayle misquotes. I remember one age was him saying a “Mind is a terrible thing to lose” at some point. And I’m remembering that incorrectly, perhaps….picture of the quote.
Well, I’m not so posh as to ever get one of these, but I think it’d be pretty fun.
(they do other things, too, I think; all I saved about it was this one video, and a related link)
@xobzoo Oh wow, I want one of those!
I’ve been doing the Jeopardy! page-a-day calendar for a few years in a row now. I had my most correct year in 2024, getting 69.7% of the questions correct!
We didn’t do the page a day calendar. Ziggy was our go to! I got a Birthday calendar in my 20s and I think those are wonderful! I’m still using mine to this day and I think they make the best gifts ever!
Growing up it was the wall calendar from our heating oil provider. These days it’s the Effin Birds page-a-day calendar in my home office.
Happy Mew Year!
