Premium Not At A Premium

Reading a Sourcing Journal article from around MDRNST’s launch in 2021, you learn exactly what makes the product so intriguing:

A reimagined silhouette is 1.5 inches shorter than a standard boxer brief, preventing bunching, but is longer than a standard trunk, which can tend to ride up.

And this seems right to us. Too long? More leg to hike up under your pants whenever you sit down. Too short? That thing’s folding itself into places best left undiscussed in polite company. So, it stands to reason, that a little bit of length but not too much would be perfect.

It sounds rad, right? Until you get to this bit, just a little later:

The boxer brief, priced at $28, will be sold through the brand’s website, mdrnst.nyc.

Um, we’re sorry… What? $28 for a SINGLE pair of underwear? Does each one come with a beer and a plate of wings? Like, WTF?!

Okay, maybe we’re exaggerating, but be honest: most of you wouldn’t spend this much, right?

First of all, if you’re going to drop some serious coin on a piece of clothing, you’re more likely to invest in a nice jacket or a good pair of jeans, not something that hugs all your most unsavory areas.

But secondly, there’s a bit of fear. And not of wasting your money. The fear is that you’d invest in something pricy and not regret it, that you’d instead be like, “Okay, this is the standard to which I hold everything to now.” This has probably happened to you before; you buy the premium bourbon for once, or the nice earbuds, or you splurge and get a first-class ticket. And then nothing ever lives up to it, and now you’re going broke because your annual bourbon/buds/travel spending is starting to look like the entry-level graphic designer’s salary.

But that’s the thing: if you get these today, you get them for $4 a piece, which isn’t so bad. That’s 7 for the original price of 1. Plus, you get a whole bunch, plenty to last you a good long time.

So buy them! NOW! Or else vow to never buy them ever. Because seriously, your underwear budget really doesn’t need to take that kind of hit.
