12-Pack: Statik GloBright Magnetic Universal Charging Cables with 3 Tips

  • The magnetized tips allow you to swap out USB-C, Lightning, and Micro-USB on the same cord
  • They light up! Which is a cool feature! Also: sorta annoying because they only don’t light up if they’re not plugged in!
  • You can either leave the tips in your phone or device, which is probably easiest, or pull them out and leave them with the cable
  • Due to the magnetic connection, these work best when leaving your device on the counter or table rather than yanking them around
  • Are they Mac compatible: Is this a trick question?

Farewell to Lightning! (Eventually)

So, pretty much everything is going to charge via USB-C in the near future. Like, even the new iPhone is USB-C.

And this is good news, to be honest. Not just because it’s satisfying to see Apple exceptionalism take a hit–although, it is (and I say this as a devoted iPhone user)–but also because soon, whenever you want to charge something, you won’t need to ask, “Where’s the cable for this?” Instead, all you’ll need is a cable, as they’ll all work for everything!

But, if there’s an operative word in the above paragraph, it’s ‘soon.’ As in: not yet.

And so, we will enjoy (or, more accurately, not enjoy) a couple transitional years where pretty much everything we use is USB-C but we all still have a few Lightning items in the mix too. And maybe the odd micro-USB still hanging around.

Hence the appeal of these cables.

They have swappable tips so they can work as USB-C, Lightning, or Micro-USB. And we’re sending you 12 of them. So you’ll have enough to just leave around the house in the places you’ll generally need charging cables: on the end table near the couch, on your bedside table, the kitchen counter, etc.

Now, we should be clear here: these are not a perfect solution. First of all, they light up. Is this cool? Sure! But also, maybe a little annoying because they only don’t light up if they’re unplugged completely. What’s more: The tips can remain in your device, while the cable portion attaches magnetically. Don’t get us wrong – the magnet will hold, but they’re not the kind of cable you can yank around or move a lot while charging.

Luckily, though, we here at Meh have a knack for parlaying minor weaknesses into major savings. What we’re saying is that you’re not going to find these elsewhere for anywhere close to 2 bucks a pop.

So they’re not perfect, but they are perfect for easing this transition with fewer frustrations about where the right cord is, or which family member should have access to the right cord. Eventually, hopefully, everything will be USB-C. Until then consider, this a cheap way to handle this awkward time.
