It's A Monster Mehsh: A Very Haunted Meh-rathon
In another box in the basement, you find pendants. In the light of the single bulb, the diamond accents twinkle and catch your eye, and it’s like a vision:
You see a monster, a terrible monster. It lurks the hallways of this house, trying to remain in the shadows but occasionally, it falls into a moonbeam and its hideous features are visible.
A beautiful woman enters. Like you, she has had car trouble. Like you, she gets lost.
The monster rushes to its room, retrieves this pendant–an antique, given to it by its own mother–and brings it into the hallway. It kneels waiting for the woman to return from wherever she’s gone off to, holding the piece of jewelry out in an offering of love. But when she finally emerges, she sees not the pendant, only the monster. Shrieking for her life, she rushes down the hall.
The monster follows her, trying to groan an apology, but to her ears its words are merely terrifying growls. In the dining room, she throws her elbow violently into the window. The weak, single panes shatter and she leaps out, landing awkwardly, rolling her ankle, and limping out into the forest, clutching her bleeding arm.
In the vision, the monster stalks to the basement and deposits the necklace angrily in the box. It will not try to woo its visitors ever again. Instead, it resolves to eat all who enter uninvited.
That is what you see in the glint. In the box, though, you find a packing slip for it. Appears to be new. Perhaps it was all in your imagination.
But it was so clear, you think.
