Aha. I bought one of them, too, but I have never used the thing. So cleaning it has been simple.
Also, I found that reddish timer thing in my kitchen a week or two ago & had no idea what it went to. But the photo here told me. Meh, you can’t keep this up.
@willismarc I have an app called “Buzzer” installed on my Pebble watch. I usually turn the cooker on. I use a small wisk to beat a single egg. After the blue light comes on, I start my watch and pour in the egg and add some cheese, mushrooms, or other omelette filling. Then I close the cooker. Sixty seconds later, when my watch buzzes, I fold the omelette and close the cooker again. Another sixty seconds later I flip the omelette. On the third buzz, I take out the omelette.
It is usually three minutes per egg. I often make several omelettes in a row.
That is for eggs bought from a friend with a few chickens. With store bought medium eggs, three minutes is too long, so I have to check the eggs sooner.
@hamjudoCorrection: Omelettes take 1.5 to 2 minutes. I have a three minute recipe for a something like French toast. Cooking takes longer, when there is more stuff.
I’ve got one. I use it a few times a week, mostly for one egg omelettes. I always use olive oil. I usually just wipe it clean before use. I have used dish soap on it a few times when I did not spread the oil everywhere it needed to be.
The nonstick coating is still intact. I use the spatula that comes with it and a silicone brush.
I am curious, has anyone measured the temperatures for the two settings? What is the difference between I and II?
I should probably get a spare, in case I do scratch the nonstick coating.
@Pantheist Did some research while cooking breakfast. Setting II turns on both cooking surfaced, setting I just turns on the bottom surface. The thermostat is in the bottom unit, so the temperature is probably the same on both settings.
The connector on my Flir One thermal camera has gotten flaky. I couldn’t get it to work long enough to read the temperature or take a thermal image.
My so called “110 volt” power is now at 129.7 volts. With that voltage, the II setting is reading 1136 watts, the I setting is reading 609 watts. The 1000 watt rating would be accurate for a more normal outlet voltage.
All measurements from my Kill-a-watt meter. I didn’t compare readings with other meters this time, but when ever I check the Kill-a-watt has always been more accurate than its advertised tolerance.
@hamjudo You were right about the one and two sides, but interestingly the top doesn’t get as hot as the bottom- I tested it by letting it preheat closed and figured the top would get a little hotter because of heat rising from the bottom, but the bottom is consistently 465 F, the top 360 F.
I’ve got 2 of these a big one and a small one that the love of my life bought off the tv feller for I think $40 after all was said and done, but wait there was more. I honestly think we’ve never used them.
Hmmm… this is perfect! I could buy it and put it next to the waffle iron I never use, which is next to the sandwich press I never use, which is next to the ice cream maker I never use, which is next to the juicer I never use.
Can anyone give a number to the area of the cooking surface? I can’t seem to find a picture of this that doesn’t look (badly) photoshopped, so it’s hard to tell…?
@JonJon it seems to work better if you post this in the thread where we vote on the songs. Here it’ll probably get lost amongst people wondering why they spent “just $10!” on another appliance that’ll get used a couple of times.
@RiotDemon Ahh and I screwed up & missed that X (Australia) was listed. Anyway I x-posted to the music thread instead of this dumb George Froman griddle.
Bought one last time – pans were mis-sized and meh would not do anything about it. They were too deep and therefore the cooker wouldn’t close right. It went straight into the trash after that. Let this one pass – surely you can find something else to spend a ten spot on. . .
@kdstrong Shoulda read the instructions, the pans are for use with it in the ‘open’ position, soup and such. I’ve had a couple of these (1@home, 1@shop) for a year now and am in for 3 more, so that if mine ever stops working, I have a backup, and also as gifts. It can’t cook everything, but works great for what it does. Super convenient cooker for small meals that is easy to clean.
Infomercial says it cooks in a “Cocoon of conductive heat” that alone is worth $10 in my book !
In the future I will curse my enemies by saying "May you die in a cocoon of conductive heat "
I think I’m going to enjoy this. I’m going to make something in it tonight. Probably that juevos rancheros recipe from early in the PDF instruction booklet. However, one issue…
@Dizavid I just opened mine and wondered what I would use it for besides being able to cook food when travelling in hotel rooms. Now I’m excited. Going to try to make some taco salad tonight.
This makes the best cornbread I’ve had in ages. I use a half box of mix and add about a tsp of baking powder, then spray the bottom pan. Make sure it’s hot before you put the batter in.

Meh is grilling us tonight - cooking up a deal !!
Be careful, though. Don’t want to get burned.
$10? Guessing the ban on teflon is right around the corner?
$10? Why the fuck not.

@haydesigner It worked! Your order number is: depraved-invisible-band

At $10, guessing it’s not really made of platinum.
@MehnofLaMehncha… what??? CURSES!!!
When I first saw it I was hoping for a George Foreman knock-off. Sadly, this was not the case.
/giphy sadness
I’m a baaaaaadddd llama…
I bought one of these last time, I used it alot for awhile, but it was really annoying to clean. So it’s in some landfill now.
I remember “extreme sports”! They were like regular sports, but you did them while parachuting out of an airplane and screaming.
@awk
You forgot, while drinking a lot of Mountain Dew.
In for 3. We bought this last time and love it, haven’t found anything like it since. Unfortunately, it’s cheaply made. But for $10, who cares?

@mediocrebot
At first, I read that as Liquid Clam.
It was much better that way.
@baqui63 Me too! I was thinking…
/giphy clam juice
@ruouttaurmind I’m not sure if that is awesome or insane (or both)
Edit:Aw dude! you ninja edited on me.
I tried to get the hummingbirds back, but gave up (too close to the end of the edit window).
@mediocrebot Hmm, my “liquid calm” comes in a bigger bottle.
@baqui63 I did, but you gotta admit, the new gif is frighteningly awesome. And yours was… just frightening.
/giphy clam juice
@baqui63 Hummingbirds back, just for you…
@ruouttaurmind Thanks.
@baqui63 same here,

Grill it 6 feet under
At least the plates come off for cleaning.
Meh to the meh.
WTF, it is $10…

I love gimicks, but this is not worthy.
Just say NO!
Trust me, I own one of these or should I say I owned one of these. It took 40 minutes to fry an egg, I timed it.

That infomercial is awesome.
Amazon reviews are not very encouraging though. 36% gave it one star!
Of course, they were all suckers who paid more than $10 so maybe their expectations were too high.
Emo Pancakes… pffft whatevs…

@hamjudo when mine gets here I’ll post the temperatures. If a month goes by and I forget and you remember, @me and I’ll check

@hamjudo i heats up one side and 2 heats both sides

clearly anti-margaritite.

@rv617 So… you’re starting your own kitchen appliance display room?
@Chmarr Of course! Doesn’t everyone have one of those? We’re putting in gallery lighting and everything.
Can anyone give a number to the area of the cooking surface? I can’t seem to find a picture of this that doesn’t look (badly) photoshopped, so it’s hard to tell…?
Whoa nice surprise… It’s like a Killed By Death compilation!
Two you missed:
X (Australia):
X_______X (Cleveland):
@JonJon but as for the skittle…
@JonJon it seems to work better if you post this in the thread where we vote on the songs. Here it’ll probably get lost amongst people wondering why they spent “just $10!” on another appliance that’ll get used a couple of times.

@JonJon And I can’t edit the post. The shame! The shame!
first time buying off "meh"
wish me luck!!!

bought one last time, still haven’t opened the box…
Does this thing have a grill attachment? The pictures don’t show it.
@nnicotero nope, just what is in the picture.
The only accessory that I use is the spatula. I only cook things with the cooker closed. The other gimmicks aren’t useful to me.
I got the e-mail and thought it was a shot at me. FeelsBadMan
Maybe I’ll get one… as soon as my Revere pans from 1950 wear out.
Infomercial says it cooks in a “Cocoon of conductive heat” that alone is worth $10 in my book !
In the future I will curse my enemies by saying "May you die in a cocoon of conductive heat "
Great X write-up … but you missed seminal 4AD band Xmal Deutschland, an egregious omission.

When should I expect to cook pancakes on this thing?
Perhaps one of the last purchases of the day!

I officially love this thing.
@Dizavid what is that??
@Pamtha Huevos rancheros and whipped omelette, which comes out almost like a souffle.
@Dizavid I just opened mine and wondered what I would use it for besides being able to cook food when travelling in hotel rooms. Now I’m excited. Going to try to make some taco salad tonight.
