I've had the trouble with no lines a few times. It's usually on topics that take a long time to load, like the one about fukubukuros. It's frustrating to wait for all those gifs to load, and then not be able to identify the new content. Longer topics could benefit from pagination.
@Kleineleh I suspect you have better internet than I do. In my rural location I am usually lucky to get 1.3 mbps so it is a torturous wait for the longer topics to load. As an experiment, I just tested how long the original fukubukuro topic took to load under optimal conditions (no one else in the house doing anything on the internet and an unusual 1.95 mbps download speed). The result was a few seconds shy of 8 minutes for just that one topic! And I'm not the only one who has been having issues, since I've seen a number of people complaining in the comments of assorted topics.
I still have them off to the right hand side for new posts within a thread.
Okay, I have them now, but they weren't there a little while ago. I blame @marklog. Leave my lines alone!
I think they don't appear if you're not logged in.
You have reached the end of the internet.

I'd really rather just wait for it to load then look for the lines. I hate having to endlessly click through new pages
Gosh. I never even noticed them before, and now I not only see them but I also know they have a function. Wonders never cease.

@gio, OK yeah, that would drive me crazy
