Who remembers...
3If you cut me, do I not bleed red and blue?
Nectar of the gods!
I’m well known in my office as a big fan of the red and blue cola brand. One of the girls in the office found this on her way into work this morning.
She remembers it from the '90’s. I also remember when it was called “Pepsi Clear” in the '80’s, and some other name in the '70’s. Though… I do remember it tasting a little different in those days. It has a very light palate (due, I suppose, to the lack of carmel coloring?) and an almost indefinable… almost citrusy flavour… but not quite.

@mfladd I love you lots, the picture was almost too much for my queasy belly – I am not watching the video of it!!
@mfladd I wonder how stupid these people feel for buying this old expensive soda for it to come back shortly after.
Plus, gross. Serves him right for drinking the whole bottle.
@RiotDemon Same situ happened when Hostess closed it’s doors. People were paying ridiculous amounts for stale boxes of Twinkis and HoHos. Then only a few months later investors announced they were putting Hostess back into production.
@mfladd
I was laughing hysterically watching him vomit. Shame the vomiting part didn’t last long.
I know that sounds gross, but I honestly feel he had it coming to him die to the fact that he dared drink something which he overpaid for.
If you’re going to overpay for a food/drink, it really shouldn’t be 20oz of soda.
Plus, I’m not sure if he had the right intentions when he bought/drank it.
@mfladd I’m not sure if it was because I watched that video, or perhaps something in the drink, but after I had a couple tugs from my bottle I wasn’t feeling so great myself.
@ruouttaurmind I haven’t done the research on that Hostess going out of business episode but it smells to me like union busting or some other way to screw employees. When it happened I had zero doubt that crap would be back on the shelves before long.
@SSteve Agreed. A name with that kind of recognition is “Too big to fail”. I mean, Hostess for cripes sake. What next? They’re going to cancel Seinfeld? Kmart is going to buy Sears? McDonalds is going to serve breakfast all day?

@narfcake Not a bad read. Thanks.
@narfcake Thanks for the link. I should have figured it wasn’t so clear-cut. I wonder what the situation is now. Did they work something out with the unions? If their sales dropped off so much to bankrupt before, what are they doing now to make the business feasible?
@SSteve I can say as a recent consumer of a couple of their “revived” products, they’ve cut portion size and changed recipes at least. Stuff that used to be (really bad for me, but) pretty tasty now has a sort of generic store brand taste and texture. So I’m betting they’ve switched to a strategy placing production cost ahead of quality and flavour.
@ruouttaurmind I don’t think I’ve had a Hostess product in 20 years. And even then it was only because I was drunk and craving Ho-Hos.
@SSteve Everyone craves ho-ho’s. I had to adjust to them as growing up we had yodels instead.
@mfladd Cadbury Mini Rolls as kids
It’s been out for almost a year now…
@sohmageek Apparently slow to arrive in my area. We did get the Pepsi 1893 in limited stores about a year ago. The regular cola wasn’t bad, but the ginger cola… made me feel like @mfladd’s video up there.
A friend of mine has a bottle from the 90’s. It’s turned amber colored. Just for fun a few years ago he called PepsiCo and asked if it was safe to drink. The person who answered had never heard of Crystal Pepsi, she had to get her manager. The mananger was amazed he had it and advised him not to drink it. Lol.
@jbartus And… I remember those tv spots too!
@ruouttaurmind and those TV spots remember you!
I bought a bottle when I saw it a few months back… I have opted to keep it in the bottle since I remember being told it tastes like pepsi.
@thismyusername I decided it tasted more like Sprite. A very mild Sprite.
@ruouttaurmind now you have me interested in trying it…
@thismyusername I cannot say I loved it, but I was compelled to have another one today. I did a taste test comparison between Crystal and the regular Pepsi. They’re very much to different products with two distinctly different flavors. I honestly do not detect what I would consider a cola (edited) flavor in Crystal. If it is available near you it certainly is a curiosity experiment.
