Why after all of these coffee polls do they still omit the I don’t drink coffee/“I’d rather barf than drink coffee” answer? I’m firmly in the “I’d rather barf than drink coffee” camp my self. Canned coffee seems like additional torture to coffee drinkers.
@kjady YES!!! Coffee is beyond gross, the smell is disgusting, and putting it in anything I like, for example, ice cream, ruins it. And it isn’t always clearly labeled that coffee flavoring has been added to otherwise decent food.
The best canned coffee??? Have you been to Japan? They have all of the best beverages. I’m a fan of the UCC and Georgia (coca-cola) brands.
In fact, I used to buy them from the commissary by the case load when we lived there in the 90s.
I’m on the edge of coffee snob, but per the write up, canned coffee is like a fast food burger: you’re getting it for a very specific purpose. There are no other options because it’s really early in the morning/late at night, you just finished a 25-mile hike and need calories, the self-loathing is particularly acute, etc.
In those situations, my go-to is Starbucks Double Shot Energy in Vanilla. It accepts the limitations of the can and focuses on being a coffee-laced vanilla milk beverage. At 210 calories and 25g total sugar in 15fl oz, it’s on the low end of the Starbucks line (13.7fl oz coffee Frappuccino is 290cal/46g).
A lot of the other “nicer” options make the (I believe) mistake of trying to produce a real coffee beverage that is mass produced and still going to taste good after months of storage/transit in wildly varying temperatures.
Not technically canned, but I ended up really liking the bottled Super Coffee things they had on here a while back. I got the vanilla latte flavor. Not really like actual coffee in any real way. Nonetheless, it has the perfect balance of sweet and bitter taste. Not overpowring in any way, and the quality is suprisingly good despite the limitations of a pre-packaged coffee drink. I’m glad I ordered them despite how skeptical I was that I would enjoy it. I think a lot of folks wouldn’t enjoy the low calorie type coffee drinks. For me, they are so much better than the sugar pumped glass starbucks style drinks. I don’t really have an opinion on the current thing being sold today, other than the fact that I can tell based on the nutrition facts that I would even find that to be too sickly sweet. I’m tired of packaged products being stuffed with sugar. I’ve gotten to where I only want a very small amount of sweetener, so these bottles I have now are a nice change of pace. Extremely convenient when I need that low effort coffee kick. Unfortunately, it seems like they’ve sold out by now. Going to have to make these last because no matter how much I enjoy them, there’s no way I would pay the normal price for them. I would rather get up and make something myself if I had to. I did order some of the Delgada pumpkin spice powdered coffeee “sachets” so I will have to report back at some point as to whether or not they will be able to fit in as my convenient coffee replacement. Reviews do not seem particularly hopeful, but the same was said of the Super Coffee, so we shall see…
