@carl669 I was supposed to ban myself for an hour to test out the power. I tested it on a spammer instead.
@sammydog01 Someone doing super stupid shit such as spamming is the simplest way. Heated arguments or a customer/ex-customer being an ass? Maybe a few hours to a few days. Spam multiple times and/or spam on your first post? Fuck you – you’re not posting again on that account until 2018!
@shawn@snapster I saw the shirts for sale yesterday, got held up with cooking, and forgot. You guys just made my day! Not only that, but it’s in the right size and color I wanted too!
So far, all of the digging has been done from the surface. It is limited by the reach of the back hoe arm. Anyone got an estimate on the depth for the first layer?
I assume that they will cut a ramp into the side at some point, and dig down another layer. Unless they switch to another style of backhoe, each layer will be the same size. We can just count layers to estimate the current depth.
It isn’t obvious yet what they are doing with the dirt.
There is a nice “mountain” in a formerly flat part of this state. It is used for skiing. They dug a lake at the same time they completed the mountain. I believe that this mountain is on top of a closed landfill. The outside of the mountain is dirt, but the inside is garbage.
My guess is that the CAH people are turning something into a park.
@hamjudo -Shoreline Amphitheater in the SF Bay Area is built over an old waste disposal site. Early on they had methane problems, evidenced by random fireballs.
@KDemo We saw Weird Al in concert this summer at a theatre built on a landfill. We were on the lawn. No flames for us. Michigan cities can’t build anything right. The only show was on the stage.
Oh, wait, random bursts of flame is considered a bad thing.
OK so this is rather a stupid question but does cards against humanity tend to do charitable things and this is just their latest screwball way to raise money for that while digging a hole for a pool or pond or something?
@Ignorant I have absolutely no clue what your post
"“Why aren’t you giving all this money to charity?
Why aren’t YOU giving all this money to charity? It’s your money.”" means. It’s not my money they gave.
It’s not a very attractive hole. Not that looks are everything, but if you’re going to go to the effort of digging a hole, you might as well make it look nice.
/giphy ugly hole
It appears that the pile of dirt will meet the edge of the hole forming one long, rather wide slope. It looks too steep for a sledding hill.
I am sad that they aren’t actually digging deeper, they are just making the hole wider.
Each dollar only buys 400 milliseconds of digging now. It bought a lot more earlier. It looks like they are raising the price at a carefully crafted rate so that the digging will stop Sunday afternoon.
@hamjudo
If it’s progressively less value for the $, is it a secret project of the Federal Reserve then?
I’m sure glad my dollars bought so much active hole-digging value. I wouldn’t wanna be one of those poor suckers who got nothin’ or next-to-nothin’ for their money.
Us early’s got most of the value.
Ha Ha Ha. I got in on the ground floor. How smart is that! You gotta see the profit to believe it.
Note: they’re not even digging in Texas. So they’re not doing a public service by creating more space for Texas air at normal barometric pressure.
@hamjudo - Perhaps they aren’t digging deeper in order to avoid disturbing an ancient burial ground. We know the consequences when that happens, right?
Because good job.
That’s some quality advertising dollars thrown into the pit.
@wearemeh on twitter says it was Meh.com’s black Friday profit.
@sammydog01 Meh has profit margins?
/s
@narfcake Apparently tiny ones. So what does it take to get banned from Woot, All Powerful One?
@sammydog01 @narfcake got banned from woot?
@carl669 narfcake is a Woot volunteer moderator. Watch out for him.
I don’t get it.
@carl669 I was supposed to ban myself for an hour to test out the power. I tested it on a spammer instead.

@narfcake
I don’t spoze volunteer mods would have worked on DW. Was it ever tried? Wouldn’t the Evil Beings have simply created new accounts?
I forget: Did DW have a rule that you have to purchase something before you were allowed to create a deal?
Not that it matters now.
@f00l Nope. No such rule. Too bad; it might have helped a bit, at least for a short time.
@narfcake congrats on the mod powers! I especially like that they give you a temp ban. I just have to shame/annoy people into timeouts.
@Thumperchick Spam isn’t as prevelent as in the past there, as the devs have placed extra steps for noobs to post, but it still happens.
Still, giving a 1 year probation to a spammer 2 minutes after their post is very satisfying.
@narfcake
@thumperchick
When did that get announced?
I take the blame for not knowing.
@f00l
You didn’t know @narfcake is a volunteer mod on Woot forums?
@PlacidPenguin
Oh. I thought it was here.
And I didn’t know woot even had volunteer mods. All my time was spent at DW.
@f00l
I only use Woot to PM a certain goat (making the goat the 3rd living thing which I’ve contacted outside of the Meh forum).
(And apparently PM some people despite the fact I don’t really remember doing so.)
@PlacidPenguin So you are a hermit?
Uh

Update
Meh is no longer the #1 sucker. It’s some other asshole.
@f00l paid for 22 seconds of hole digging.
Thoughtless is as Thoughtless does.
@f00l
How is it that rain gets in thru holes, but light gets in thru cracks?
So I’m watching CAH dig a hole… then I notice Meh donated… $634! Then noticed 634 spells MEH on a telephone keypad. Well played, Meh

@ComputerMD82 Well done. Sending you a free shirt for solving that puzzle.

@hamjudo -
Depends, I would guess the fans of certain groups might see random fireballs as bonus entertainment.
@hamjudo I think they are gonna have a giant hole with a tiny island in the middle holding up the excavator.
Digging holes is good for ya. It builds character.
@Collin1000 I had forgotten about that movie LOL

@Ignorant ok now I get it…
@Kidsandliz
@ignorant
They could be considered a semi-rich asinine amusing charity case in themselves, if you think about it just right.
In which case I gave a couple of stray dollars to a semi-rich asinine amusing “charity”.
Now why did I do that? Huh.
@f00l Because why not?
/giphy why not
/8ball do I have any clue why @f00l did that?
My reply is no
@Kidsandliz
Well figure it out! I need to know pretty quick.
I only do my own thinking on insane days. Otherwise it’s outsourced.
@f00l Not my problem - above my pay grade…
@f00l Insanity only on days that end in ‘y’?
@narfcake
Stop counting. Stop spelling. That stuff makes me crazy.

@thismyusername I do like the money thrown in hole graph
@thismyusername
Damn it. The vid should show them digging way faster like those heavy equipment vids that toddlers like. Action pls.
These holidayhole assholes are slackers.
@thismyusername I like dirty holes
@astroglide lol
i can’t decide if it is funny or tragic or what
@Cerridwyn
Either.
Both.
Neither.
Something else.
All will be revealed at the moment of enlightenment.
It’s not a very attractive hole. Not that looks are everything, but if you’re going to go to the effort of digging a hole, you might as well make it look nice.

@rv617 We aren’t paying them to make it look good. We’re paying them to dig.
The hole itself is not bad for the environment (we know this from the CAH FAQ), but I wonder how much carbon is being put into the atmosphere by this.
Regardless, it is not the worst summary of 2016 that I’ve seen.
@baqui63 less than one person who buys an suv to transport 1-4 people plus some groceries
@baqui63
I’m sure the equipment is all solar-powered and wind-powered. Not to worry.

The hole has been filled in.

@Ignorant I loved the banana for scale!
@Trillian
That’s such a small banana in such a big hole.
I know people were just throwing their money away, but it still feels cheap and cheated out if they just filled it back afterwards…
@ELUNO
Why? To me: If the intention was absurdity, they arrived on schedule.
@f00l The absurdity was digging a hole for no reason. Covering such an absurd hole makes it just meh.
@f00l
We have differing aesthetics on this matter.
I suppose they filled in the hole in Dec.
As Goat, I must take responsibility for the hole-filling activity.
As Goat, I am to blame for, and take responsibility for, our differing aesthetics on the subject of “hole-filling under absurd conditions”.
@ELUNO they filled it back in with black dirt and seeded it.
video of it before it was filled in on this twitter account:
