I have a lot of tools (planer, joiner, band saw, chop saw, drill press, disc/belt sander, contractor's saw, mortiser, Leigh dovetail jig, HVLP sprayer, etc.) that I bought when I had a better-paying job and more time. Now I have one-and-a-half jobs and play a lot of music so the woodshop sits idle.
I do most simple stuff around the house (new faucets and handles on the sink, new ceiling fans, painting) myself, and I like decent tools. I have an assortment of mostly Craftsman, a few strangely well-designed hand tools from Ikea, and saws/clippers are Felco.
Over the years, I've had a problem with some of my tools, and a couple of decent tool bags, that "ran away from home" and were never seen again. A few years ago I found a new tool bag:
It is surprisingly well built, sturdy, and with lots of space. My tools must like their home because not one of them has disappeared since I got it. I do so wonder why! {snicker}
I have put together a nice little collection of things I might need, just the basics. They are in my little tool box. Hubby has every tool ever invented but constantly raids my little kit whenever he needs something. Then he never puts the tool back.
All mine were stolen when I moved the end of October. I had mostly craftsman tools. A nice screwdriver set, a bunch of different pliers, locking ones, assorted hammers and a leather/rawhide? hammer, those lovely wood and bronze folding rulers, clamps, several different kinds of wrench sets, and a bunch more stuff… and unfortunately the pieces I was repairing for my 1862 melodeon, the hardware for all the furniture I took apart when I put everything in storage, the keys to all the locks, most of the locks… sigh. And my dad's really nice screwdriver set with interchangeable heads. One of the few things I had of my dad's. It is this last bunch of stuff that really makes me sad. I can't afford to replace any tools and I have no clue what I will do about all the hardware for the furniture or my melodeon pieces.
Can't do everything with a house rebuild but I can do most of whats needed with the family cars with tools at hand.
Not much good house building stuff - but motorcycle, stone, camp and some construction hand tools.
One junk drawer that will barely close.

I have learned that it is easier and cheaper to hire someone to do things than it is to pay them to fix what I break.

I love purple.
My neighbor is a contractor, so I keep getting hand he downs of tools no one would normally buy.
I only have one tool... but it's ENORMOUS.
I have a hammer, an adjustable wrench, a socket wrench, and some screwdrivers. I find that covers most of my tool requirements.
@AnnaB According to Pete Seeger, all you need is a hammer, a bell, and a song.
Tons of hand tools and power tools, enough to fit in my office. I would probably have air tools and large woodworking tools if I had a garage.
