They are horribly bad. And the jars are kind of nice if you want to make a small portion of Oats on a later day. I’m not buying any more of them. Cuz I really don’t need another 12 jars. I would love it if you all had some of the other flavors because I really hate going to Walmart and I kind of like to try a couple of them
I got these the last time they were offered and they’re pretty … “meh.” Not terribly tasty and, yes, cold (not surprising, given that they refrigerate overnight). I can microwave instant protein oatmeal in less than three minutes and it’s far better than these. And hot.
I read that as: POOPER GOOD!
So now I assume that is the reason for turning to all over the meh.
Some marketing design person(s) got fired for it.
So, it’s a NO from me.
@JohnQ118 they’re actually a pretty high rated instant package. Mostly sold at Walmart and at their website but also on amazon. They also do single servings of soup and pasta and the pastas got a higher rating than anything in a can
You ran out of time to make breakfast, but remembered to get these going the night before. It’s time travel! Who would have ever thought that time travel would be possible because of oatmeal, truly amazing stuff!
@AaronLeeJohnson it’s not bad, it’s just not as good as milk. Like the old Total cereal commercials that compared the nutrition in one bowl of Total to several bowls of Frosted Flakes, and then blasted that eating that much Frosted Flakes was bad for your gut.
I like them but I usually add molasses. Proper Good in general tends to go light on seasoning, I’ve had a lot of their soups and usually have to add salt. But I guess it’s better to have not enough and let people add more if they want it, since everyone has different tastes.
I bought these last time. They’re gross. I ate one and it was more full of regret than an IRK. I will eventually remember to throw them out but keep the jars for craft stuff.
I’m one of those who already knew about these before a prior sale, so I was thrilled to get some with a steep discount.
Now, for taste, it’s all down to preference… I like these, but I also don’t care for sweet cereals, or many of the sweeter breakfast foods. But the nutritional content is quite good for something that only requires a bit of prep the night before, and minimal effort at all.
If you like it, great. If you dislike this food, then I hope that you have something else that works better for you! But that won’t stop me from enjoying my admittedly somewhat bland jar of oats.
I bought these last time. Had read stuff about overnight oatmeal, thought this would be great. It was NOT. Its texture and taste were hideous. I tried adding more liquid, tried adding more sweetening. There was no salvaging that sludge. I hate wasting food, but threw them all out. Couldn’t even bring myself to save the little jars. Ugh.
I enjoyed these if you like overnight oats. The chunks of real apple were a nice touch. The packaging is a bit excessive but you get these little jars out of it.
Got these last time. The oats are whatever - if you like/tolerate Quaker instant in the packets, you’ll probably like/tolerate these. I throw in some almonds or pecans and like them fine. If you need some little jars and don’t mind them saying “proper good” on the side this is a great deal.
I bought these last time. I was kind of liking them until I hit one that had grains of sand or dirt in it, that I discovered with my teeth. At least I hope it was sand or dirt. My first thought was glass. I spit it out and haven’t dared to eat another one since.
I did not enjoy this. It tasted kind of chalky to me when made with vanilla almond milk. The jars are nice but I’m not sure how well the lids will hold up over time. I probably wouldn’t stack them either because they seemed not very stable.
These are very meh. If you want overnight oats that actually taste good and are super nutritious, and you don’t wanna make them yourself, you gotta get them from oatsovernight dot com. They have chia seeds and flax seeds added so they’re full of fiber as well as protein, and there are a whole bunch of great flavors. End of commercial, thank me later.
Half a dozen empty jars plus instructions on how to DIY the product would be a far more effective use of what’s in these things. Too many assumptions are made about taste, and a good many of them result in the product being rejected. Overnight oats is not a bad idea per se, but it needs to be tailored to the tastes of the person consuming it. These appear to be tailored to the tastes of people who have wildly out of band preferences relative to the mainstream. That’s never a recipe for widespread success. And I guess that explains why they’re here on meh. As a result of the existence of these, I tried soaking some oats overnight before nuking them in the morning, and it actually did work to make the process easier and slightly more palatable. But the quick oats are even more palatable, albeit at the expense of having a higher ratio of carb to protein. There are biochemistry reasons for this. In any event, you do you. What works for me is probably an outlier.
A cup of old fashioned oats, a cup of milk, a one serving container of yogurt, chia seeds, sweetener of your choice, a little salt, cinnamon if desired. Stir, cover, refrigerate overnight. Makes 2 decent servings. Top with fruit and/or nuts if you want. Cheap. Easy.
@Cerridwyn@yeld i find that adding powdered pb works great as a protein powder. Current recipe i like is 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 to 1/2 cup soymilk, 1 tb powdered pb, 1/2 tb cocoa powder. Chia seeds is a good idea too for texture and fiber
@maxiebob@yeld that sounds about right. Mine is a third of a cup of oats, a third of a cup of whatever milk I’m using, a third of a cup of Greek yogurt, a small spoonful of chia seeds, a smalle spoonful of protein powder. A very little bit maybe a quarter teaspoon of vanilla powder if I’m not using vanilla milk. Sometimes I will add a dash of maple syrup, or a little tiny dribble of honey, other times it’s fruit. My favorite is either is blueberries, or raspberries, and the raspberries are the ones that you can need a little bit of sweetener. I am not a huge fan of peanut butter, give it a choice I will prefer cashew butter but I don’t like it in oats
@Cerridwyn@yeld i forgot to mention I’ve added dried fruit for sweetness, I find half a prune or a full prune (roughly chopped) works great and i also liked it with dried/candied ginger. I haven’t tried fresh fruit but i tried frozen and it got sad and mushy
@maxiebob@yeld yeah it makes sense the pressure it wouldn’t work real well. I have used all sorts of berries. Even once found a recipe that said to put the oatmeal and the berries and all the stuff into the blender and so I tried that and I didn’t like it. That was truly mushy. I have also used dried blueberries but they’re usually have added sugar. And I’ve used all sorts of baking spices from Ginger to Nutmeg to cinnamon to like a pie spice blend
The third of a cup is not really quite enough and a hap is too much just like her period so you need a kind of a third plus maybe a tablespoon. Give or take. These are fine for me as far as salt and sweet are concerned and sometimes I just am too tired in the evening to make it for the next day these are easy. They were actually really good made with eggnog
I don’t understand the case for overnight or “quick” oatmeal. I make a bowl of regular old rolled Quaker oats in the microwave in 2 minutes. Add another few minutes for the oatmeal to cool a bit and finish absorbing liquid while I make my coffee and it’s breakfast time.
@macromeh depends on how many you are making, LOL
I started doing overnight oats when I needed to meal prep breakfast, and you can make the weeks worth all at one time.
I also find I like cooked oats to be sweeter than overnight. So I use less sugar this way.
There are some fun recopies out there, I have a good one for smores overnight oats
Just make a big batch of Preacher cookies. Oats, butter, sugar, milk, cocoa, and peanut butter. All the grain and the sugar/fat you crave in handheld form.
bought these last time, not very good . and the jars all leak when you shake them up. cold oatmeal is not appetizing, and the jars are too little to microwave them without making a mess.
~$2.50 for a jar of fancy oatmeal? Is this for real? SMH Thank god you get to keep the jar. It would be a rip off otherwise.
Hold up! A free spoon? Whoa!
LOL, I ripped on these last time they were offered as being too expensive, especially when you have to then figure out what do do with yet another set of reusable storage containers… Come here to find out the majority that ended up with them thought they were terrible tasting as well. C’mon, $30 for 28 oz of mediocre oats that still require more prep than the $0.50 Quaker packets? (BTW, did you know the quaker packets have a line in the packet that you’re supposed to use to measure for the perfect amount of water?) 12 for $24 would be a a stretch after these reviews; maybe 12 for $18? I’ll bite in August when they’re $12 for 12. They really need to ‘sweeten’ up this deal with extra oatmeal refils or some other kind of ‘bundle’.
I hope this is the last straw needed to shake up meh’s purchasing and start coming up with more compelling offerings. These bad-idea-from-the-start abandon-ware health foods are really quite boring.
i use the jars from empty Bonne Maman Preserves with 2/3 c rolled quaker oats, maple syrup, raisins, dried cranberries, chopped pecans, then a little Bonne Maman Preserves on top. 50 cents
I was hesitant of the apple flavor (same old same old). But this was a good deal, and I love their chocolate peanut butter banana flavor, so I pulled the trigger on this. Man, these are delicious! 10/10 would recommend!

Proper Good will make your Pooper Good!!

I would love it if you all had some of the other flavors because I really hate going to Walmart and I kind of like to try a couple of them
@Cerridwyn you could always make your own with bulk bought oats and some yogurt
@pakopako i do. Sometimes easy is good though. And it gives me ideas
I got these the last time they were offered and they’re pretty … “meh.” Not terribly tasty and, yes, cold (not surprising, given that they refrigerate overnight). I can microwave instant protein oatmeal in less than three minutes and it’s far better than these. And hot.
The glass jars are nice, though!
What is the lid like? material, seal quality, durability
@agnesnutter it’s like a plastic lid that has a bit of silicone inside the lid to hold a seal. Decent actually.
I read that as: POOPER GOOD!
So now I assume that is the reason for turning to all over the meh.
Some marketing design person(s) got fired for it.

@digerifoo2 it’s a favor from your past (more lucid, less hungover) self!
Did you guys hear about Oatmilk being terrible for you? Such a shame. I used to eat oatmeal in Oatmilk.
@AaronLeeJohnson it’s not bad, it’s just not as good as milk. Like the old Total cereal commercials that compared the nutrition in one bowl of Total to several bowls of Frosted Flakes, and then blasted that eating that much Frosted Flakes was bad for your gut.

@AaronLeeJohnson @pakopako Did you ever try Total? Those flakes tasted like vitamin pills. Yuck.
I like them but I usually add molasses. Proper Good in general tends to go light on seasoning, I’ve had a lot of their soups and usually have to add salt. But I guess it’s better to have not enough and let people add more if they want it, since everyone has different tastes.
Y’all motivated me to just go downstairs and set up a mason jar of overnight oats for tomorrow’s breakfast. Thanks, Meh!
I bought these last time. They’re gross. I ate one and it was more full of regret than an IRK. I will eventually remember to throw them out but keep the jars for craft stuff.
I guess this is an unpopular opinion but I really liked these. Worked great with lightly sweetened oat milk.

You can’t add any toppings correct?
@firetiger725 depends on your local laws and regulations. Are you part of an HOA? Are you in a dry county? Need much more information.
Did you fill out a TATO form for 2025? The Office of Oatmeal (OOO) can update your TATO (Toppings Added to Oatmeal) records in 7-10 business days.
I enjoyed these if you like overnight oats. The chunks of real apple were a nice touch. The packaging is a bit excessive but you get these little jars out of it.

Friend of my roommate once was really hungry when he woke up after a party so he ate a bowl of cereal with some 151.
He in fact did not think it was very tasty.
It appears Pooper Good is somewhat better than that, but not good enough for me to not meh it.
I bought these last time. I was kind of liking them until I hit one that had grains of sand or dirt in it, that I discovered with my teeth. At least I hope it was sand or dirt. My first thought was glass. I spit it out and haven’t dared to eat another one since.
@IAMIS it was probably the protein powder. It needs to be stirred/shaken vigorously to dissolve all the way.
@mamajoan I don’t think so. This soaked for a couple days before I ate it and it was like tooth damaging hard.
I did not enjoy this. It tasted kind of chalky to me when made with vanilla almond milk. The jars are nice but I’m not sure how well the lids will hold up over time. I probably wouldn’t stack them either because they seemed not very stable.
They will go in the prepper pantry just in case.
These are very meh. If you want overnight oats that actually taste good and are super nutritious, and you don’t wanna make them yourself, you gotta get them from oatsovernight dot com. What’s new about the design from last time?
@pakopako They wanted to imply the bag of dried oats also contained an entire fresh apple. See if you can spot my edit:

@mcanavino @pakopako
Unnecessary quotes… or maybe necessary? I haven’t tasted the new ones yet.

@yeld add a little protein powder. And some Greek yogurt not plain yogurt I add fruit mostly not a sweetener
@Cerridwyn @yeld i find that adding powdered pb works great as a protein powder. Current recipe i like is 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 to 1/2 cup soymilk, 1 tb powdered pb, 1/2 tb cocoa powder. Chia seeds is a good idea too for texture and fiber

I’d try a 6-pack, or better yet a 4-pack. But, I really don’t want 12 of those jars cluttering up my already-cluttered kitchen!
@jimdkc you can use the jars for other small things like nuts, i bought the 8 pack bc i wanted jars with machine washable lids

@macromeh someone was desperate to shave off the extra minute.
(And that’s, in gaming terms, a very min-max munchkin way of approaching life/time efficiency)
@macromeh depends on how many you are making, LOL

I also find I like cooked oats to be sweeter than overnight. So I use less sugar this way.
There are some fun recopies out there, I have a good one for smores overnight oats
@macromeh Plus the thought of cold oatmeal isn’t very appealing.
@lisagd I actually prefer to eat oatmeal cold (or at least room-temperature-ish).
I bought them last time
I see these as being INCLUDED this next IRK. Very Meh
so you make these cold AND eat them cold? i love oatmeal too much to do that.
Just make a big batch of Preacher cookies. Oats, butter, sugar, milk, cocoa, and peanut butter. All the grain and the sugar/fat you crave in handheld form.

i use the jars from empty Bonne Maman Preserves with 2/3 c rolled quaker oats, maple syrup, raisins, dried cranberries, chopped pecans, then a little Bonne Maman Preserves on top. 50 cents

FYI, the free spoon mentioned on the packaging is only if you got them at Walmart.
Also, be careful when opening the box. One of my 3 sets of 4 had shattered glass in it
… I assume at least one of the jars broke during shipping.

I was hesitant of the apple flavor (same old same old). But this was a good deal, and I love their chocolate peanut butter banana flavor, so I pulled the trigger on this. Man, these are delicious! 10/10 would recommend!
We got them and like them, but we are the strange people that do over night oats.
@adriangomez
I think the proper term is weird, not strange
heh
