i do not art. i simply have no artistic talent, as well as my siblings. it is a bit strange considering my folks are quite artsy, and both were art teachers!
@spacemart
I had an anatomy teacher in college who got his bachelor degree in art. The drawings he’d put in the board each week in the lab for the cytology portion were unbelievable. They looked better than the slides most of the time.
@andyw@chienfou I do! Most stuff is shot on my phone, but I also use a variety of cameras, from a 1940s 120 rollfilm model to a modern Kodak bridge camera.
I have said here before, I believe, that when I draw, a stick figure is high art. I do appreciate real art, though. I also do photography, which has resulted in some pictures I am proud of.
Counted cross-stitch because my Virgo left-brain can’t handle creativity. I also enjoy color-by-number for this reason. The most artsy I’ll get is a sip ‘n’ paint, which is basically freeform paint by number
I used to do some intricate beading (beaded collar necklaces, mostly.) I also have letterpress printing equipment & have done quite a bit of that. Lately I’ve been doing some patchwork for quilting.
I love the beginning parts of projects but following through is my weak point!
I had a strip in the school paper as a kid. Still like to doodle on drawing apps (though unfortunately not regularly). Some web apps that are like “telephone the game” (draw a word, next player guesses the word from what was drawn, third player draws what was guessed, etc) garticphone.com drawception.com
Speaking of art, I don’t remember Meh having so many thumbnails before for the forum. Did they get an art team? Outsource it? Start a prompt assembly line?
@Kyeh It definitely looks it, but I also want to be sure of it before making that claim (actual artists have been hit by it, and that suuuuucks). I probably need to reach out to their team to try and find out for sure.
@Kyeh@therealjrn Well, shit. I remember the old forum commands just pulled gifs or wild search engine results instead of “Oh, I’m going to stop ordering from Meh now” slop.
@Kyeh@therealjrn@zekedms I used to “curate” my purchase codes on giphy.com, but I admit to being addicted to the showmes for the challenge of composing the “perfect prompt”. But I can still giphy without curation.
@Kyeh@therealjrn@zekedms See, the above is TOTALLY no Garfield the cat. In fact, I really don’t know WHO is supposed to be Garfield. I would rather have …
/showme Orange sloven cartoon cat offering me lasagna.
@Kyeh@therealjrn I’m glad we can but…yeah, I’m not putting my money into a company that uses the power of a small city to make a forum thumbnail, you know?
I’m sure you have never thought about it but have you noticed steak houses will sell vegetarian meals but vegetarian restaurants don’t sell steaks? That’s rather close minded of them isn’t it?
Anyway, chill out and just go away with the virtue signaling. You say you have no use for meh now, right?
So your continued participation and whinging is just an attempt to stifle free speech and ideas. Not to mention the harm you are attempting while stifling free, economic trade. Who would have ever thought we’d see such censorious behavior here in the hallowed forums?
I, for one am shocked. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. Do better.
I don’t do “art” per se. I have accomplished several cabinetry/furniture building projects I’m pretty proud of, and I love the space I’ve made my house into.
Closest to art I come is photography. Having come up in the days when you shot film I tend to be pretty intensional in my pictures (lighting, composition, subject matter, POV etc). I have several in the house that I’m fond of…
@therealjrn
Thanks. Over the years I’ve had several I’ve been very proud of. I feel I have a pretty good eye and technique, but still feel sort of like the “even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then” adage.
Wish I had the skills of my friend Josh or Stu.
Tape a banana to a wall.
@Pavlov
Sorry… too rich for my blood!
@mediocrebot Yep that is art! I could not afford it when it is in a Museum. But I can create one on my Own.
i do not art. i simply have no artistic talent, as well as my siblings. it is a bit strange considering my folks are quite artsy, and both were art teachers!
@spacemart

@spacemart Sure you are you just have NOT found the Artsy skill you possess!
Me it is with a camera!
I’ve made some masterpieces in the porcelain throne room, mind you.
Unfortunately, they fall into the category of ephemera.
@therealjrn “I want to make some art” sounds like a fine euphemism.
@therealjrn
I break out the plasma cutter and the welder, and when the atrocity is complete, I take it out to the curb for the recycling guys to haul off.
If I can do it, it’s not art.
Laugh at myself for forgetting that I have no artistic abilities.
Though I have always envied those artsy people.
EZ PZ!! Observe:
/showme a realistic painting of mediocrebot in the style of Picaso mounted in a 24-kt Gold Frame and valued at $100 Billion dollars.
@MrGoodGuy You are so talented.
I wake up from the fever dream
/showme DaVinci painting an underage
Mona Lisa while her father looks on disapprovingly
Something went terribly wrong. Please try again.
@mediocrebot
/showme DaVinci painting a young
Mona Lisa while her father looks on disapprovingly
@mediocrebot @phendrick Is he using fingerpaints on her?
@mediocrebot well, not quite, but the Master looks authentic. Guess the father could be off to the side.
Heat, beat, repeat. (aka, blacksmithing)
@un4gvn1 Also very satisfying, even when you have no real idea what you’re trying to make. (At least, it is for me. YMMV.)
I take photos.
@PooltoyWolf Nice work!
@PooltoyWolf I love photography
@andyw Thank you!
@andyw @PooltoyWolf
Plus, if memory serves, you have plenty of cameras to choose from!
@andyw @chienfou I do! Most stuff is shot on my phone, but I also use a variety of cameras, from a 1940s 120 rollfilm model to a modern Kodak bridge camera.
I take pictures. I have several awards for them!
Open PowerPoint. You can never have slides that are too artistic.
I find crayons really fun to work with, for whatever reason. They can smear just the right amount.
I am really left brained. Analytical rather than artistic.
I draw with pens.
I would show my work, but I am way too self-critical to do so.
Also, my type of art isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
@Wollyhop Nobody’s art is everyone’s cup of tea.
/showme the goat Wollyhop drawing a cup of tea
@mediocrebot I saw drawing not drinking you drunken bot!
@yakkoTDI No, like I draw body horror

And that is just a casual pencil sketch.
@Wollyhop this is what I love about art. It’s not supposed to be everyone’s cup of tea. It should tell us something about the artist.
@sillyheathen @Wollyhop Some people make a good living off body horror art work so it is not an alien concept.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._R._Giger
@Wollyhop Furry art?
@PooltoyWolf @Wollyhop all the art!
@mediocrebot
/showme anthropomorphized cup drawing a goat with a goatee.
I have said here before, I believe, that when I draw, a stick figure is high art. I do appreciate real art, though. I also do photography, which has resulted in some pictures I am proud of.
I do some embroidery. Stitching is meditative for me.
Various fiber arts. Most things with a needle and thread or yarn and a hook.
I embroider - making bucilla stockings for everyone in the family.
Craft
Depends on the day and the adhd.
@sillyheathen
my latest project
I love to draw, but painting is so much more expressive to me…color is EVERYTHING!!!
@Colleenanne2023 show us the paintings!!! I love the art. But only if you want to share.
Counted cross-stitch because my Virgo left-brain can’t handle creativity. I also enjoy color-by-number for this reason. The most artsy I’ll get is a sip ‘n’ paint, which is basically freeform paint by number

@mycya4me
Candid photography? (snap, snap, grin, grin, wink, wink)

Speaking of art, I don’t remember Meh having so many thumbnails before for the forum. Did they get an art team? Outsource it? Start a prompt assembly line?
@zekedms
Started using a lot of AI.
@Kyeh It definitely looks it, but I also want to be sure of it before making that claim (actual artists have been hit by it, and that suuuuucks). I probably need to reach out to their team to try and find out for sure.
@zekedms Oh, a lot of us have been grousing about it; I think they they’re pretty open about it and know that some of us disapprove.
@Kyeh @zekedms
/showme the AI sweatshop where all the AI make more AI make more AI…and on.
@Kyeh @therealjrn Well, shit. I remember the old forum commands just pulled gifs or wild search engine results instead of “Oh, I’m going to stop ordering from Meh now” slop.
@therealjrn @zekedms We can still get GIFs, and that’s what I generally choose. Or find my own image and post it myself.
@zekedms Yep, our dear @Kyeh is a 20th century girl stuck in the 21st century.

/giphy 21st century breakdown
@Kyeh @zekedms Does anyone know the AI image generator software that meh is using?
@Kyeh @therealjrn @zekedms I used to “curate” my purchase codes on giphy.com, but I admit to being addicted to the showmes for the challenge of composing the “perfect prompt”. But I can still giphy without curation.
/giphy Garfield the cat asking me to come back.

@Kyeh @therealjrn @zekedms See, the above is TOTALLY no Garfield the cat. In fact, I really don’t know WHO is supposed to be Garfield. I would rather have …
/showme Orange sloven cartoon cat offering me lasagna.
@cfg83 @Kyeh @zekedms
Oh my, that’s one “healthy” jif there giphy. Here, have a salad would you?
@Kyeh @therealjrn @zekedms Of course!
/showme Orange sloven cartoon cat offering me salad.
@Kyeh @therealjrn @zekedms Ok, now I think it’s a good giphy. It makes sense.
@mediocrebot
/showme Anthropomorphized cat in Victorian business suit and ordering AI to make more AI in squalid steampunk factory.
@mediocrebot And I didn’t even have to say Top hat!
@Kyeh @therealjrn @zekedms HA! Even the showme knows that Garfield would NEVER offer a salad to me.
/showme silly white cartoon dog offering me a salad.
@Kyeh @therealjrn I’m glad we can but…yeah, I’m not putting my money into a company that uses the power of a small city to make a forum thumbnail, you know?
Oh well.
@zekedms – I think we’re shaking our fists at the clouds, unfortunately. 🫤 Everyone else seems to be super happy to generate AI “art” aka plagiarism.
@Kyeh @zekedms
Ain’t it AWESOME???
/showme MOAR POWAH!
PANS! GLANDS! CRAYONS! AWESOME!
@therealjrn @zekedms No, it ain’t.
@Kyeh @therealjrn Real “I’m gonna eat MORE MEAT to OWN THE VEGETARIANS” behavior right here. Cringe.
@zekedms Interesting you brought up vegetarians.

I, for one am shocked. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. Do better.
@Kyeh @zekedms
@Kyeh @zekedms You should shake your fist at the clouds. Have you seen them lately?!?!
/showme cloud making obscene gesture at goat that is grazing in the field.
@therealjrn Wow. Such deep and original talking points. I’m sure Daddy Peterson is proud
In better daze I would do a little kit bashing. This was in honor of Star Wars episode 9 … before I saw it :
The picture above was more of a “space dazzle” paint scheme for … reasons.
Pew pew with lasers then Bob Ross the pieces.
@sillyheathen Would you say it’s a difficulty of about 6-7?
@therealjrn depends. I’m a nerd and an artsy kid so for me it’s a 3-4. It also helps that I draw and make my own designs. So on a scale from 0-10 a ?

@sillyheathen Yes’m.
I have several in the house that I’m fond of…
@chienfou My mom’s dermatologist was a photographer too! His office was decorated with them! I bet yours are good too!
@therealjrn
Thanks. Over the years I’ve had several I’ve been very proud of. I feel I have a pretty good eye and technique, but still feel sort of like the “even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then” adage.
In better daze I burned maybe 80 man hours on this 1/32 slot car :
I think a big chunk of the time was spend dialing in maybe 1-2 mm clearance on the rear tires.
