@hchavers Nope, I love colors & I only wash with warm water! But when Drying I try to put the heavy stuff out on the line, in the back bathroom in the colder months! (towels, Jean ect.)
And I am getting up early tomorrow to go to the laundromat so I can avoid the woman who works there as she tries to dictate how we do our laundry. ALL of the process sucks from hauling the crap to my car, driving there, sitting there with no internet doing it, dealing with it when it is done, hauling it back to my apartment.
@Kidsandliz Sad, I don’t worry about it. I have my own washer & Dryer. I do other stuff when it is doing its thing. Sometimes put a Load in 1st thing in the AM, take it out when I get back & throw it in the dryer then! I might fold it up later!
@Kidsandliz You have my sympathies! I don’t miss those days, but it’s funny, i try to remind myself to be grateful that i have a laundry area mere steps away, but still end up grumbling & procrastinating when it has to be done. <sigh>
@ircon96 It’s 7:24am, I wondered why my alarm went off. Of yeah. Laundramat before it gets full of people and bitch lady shows up. I just fed the cats and am now gathering crap to go to the laundromat as soon as I get off the computer (no internet there).
@Kidsandliz Wow, that sucks… Not even any hot spots? You could always download some stuff when you’re online at home for the times you get desperate, like when the beyotch (or some other weirdo) shows up!
@ircon96 So the entire torture took, including the commute, 2 hours. And cost me $2.75 to dry 3 very large dryers full (about 5 “regular” loads including all bedding, towels, stuff the cats puked on, etc.) and $11.50 for the washers so a total of $14.25 (plus gas). In the place I live it would have cost me $19.50 and at least 4 hours, possibly more depending on how many people were trying to use the 4 washing machines and 4 dryers. Laundry sucks. I need more clothes so I can do it less often.
@Kidsandliz Ouch! If only you could get away with wearing those disposable paper gowns from the doctor’s office in public. Although, judging from the “People of Walmart” site, they’d probably consider that formal wear.
Clearly whomever wrote that poll doesn’t own an iron and likes to be wrinkled. Of course I don’t usually iron unless I have to dress up. I figure take the crap out of the dryer, shake, put on a hanger and fuck it. It’d good enough.
@Kyeh Neither do I but a few things need it (suits). Also I buy things that will shrink in a bigger size so that I can stuff everything into the dryer and not worry about it.
My kid was a crack up in high school. She had done her laundry since 4th grade, did the usual refuse to sort so an entire load was pink, etc. but by high school she was even hanging some things to dry so she wouldn’t shrink it something. Good those lessons were learned back when kids grow a size a year so that when they stall growth wise in high school clothes don’t get wrecked when they have more time to wear them. In fact it was safe to let her toss some of my stuff in when she wanted to do just a couple of things in the load.
@Kidsandliz@Kyeh I used to iron every day. A decade after only buying non-iron clothing I almost never iron anymore. If my clothes are wrinkled I quickly steam them out with the steamer in the morning.
@ircon96@Kidsandliz@OnionSoup Yeah, dry cleaning is something I’ll only do for good coats - I have some sweaters that should really be dry cleaned but I never wear them.
@Kidsandliz@OnionSoup And conveniently, they’re offering a steamer on Sidedeal for those who need one… I use an iron while piecing patchwork, but hardly ever on anything else.
Schlepping to the laundromat and sitting there sweating because they don’t have A/C is not fun. Putting $20 worth of quarters in the machines is no thrill either.
@Lynnerizer I don’t like adding scents to my laundry. What I sometimes do for things like towels is put a drop of lavender essential oil on a corner before I load them into the dryer (the oils are flammable but the laundry is wet and I only use a small drop.) All the products they sell for scented laundry kind of make me gag. I LOATHE dryer sheets !
@Harbingerdc In our household this is my job. My wife does (most, not all) our laundry, but her knee occasionally (and unpredictably) goes out, so I carry the laundry baskets down/up the stairs to/from the laundry room.
All of the above Plus washing them. But I throw everything in at one time. No matter what it is/ Color it is!
@mycya4me Are you a monochromatic person?
@hchavers Nope, I love colors & I only wash with warm water! But when Drying I try to put the heavy stuff out on the line, in the back bathroom in the colder months! (towels, Jean ect.)
@hchavers @mycya4me Jean Who?
@hchavers @phendrick That is Blue Jeans! the ones you wear, Not the Lovely two legged Young lady…!
Hanging everything afterwards.

@mycya4me I wish I could still do it that way. So much more convenient.
@Kidsandliz You have my sympathies! I don’t miss those days, but it’s funny, i try to remind myself to be grateful that i have a laundry area mere steps away, but still end up grumbling & procrastinating when it has to be done. <sigh>

Hearing the help complain about the bloodstains.

@Kidsandliz I tend not to buy things that need to be ironed.

@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @OnionSoup Amen to boycotting stuff that needs to be ironed, along with “dry clean only” … Not today, Satan!

The scowl and dictation from my wife while pointing at my clothes on the floor.
@hchavers hehehehe… But you must keep the wife happy as she can make your life not pleasant!
Taking it to the laundromat.
@ratman …Where you end up getting taken to the cleaners.
Seriously, $2 for each cup of detergent?
@pakopako Fortunately, I bring my own soap, and dryer sheets!
Schlepping to the laundromat and sitting there sweating because they don’t have A/C is not fun. Putting $20 worth of quarters in the machines is no thrill either.
@heartny Cheaper in the Long Run to get a washer, then hang your clothes outside!
Doing Laundry…
Remembering to get them out when still hot so I can put away certain items before they wrinkle.
Rinsing, because I don’t have a washing machine and I never feel like I rinsed the clothes enough. More detergent just keeps rinsing out forever.
The worst part of doing laundry is having to pay the outrageous prices for laundry detergent and those smell good laundry beads! It’s crazy!
@Lynnerizer I don’t like adding scents to my laundry. What I sometimes do for things like towels is put a drop of lavender essential oil on a corner before I load them into the dryer (the oils are flammable but the laundry is wet and I only use a small drop.) @Kyeh @Lynnerizer, I use vinegar for odor and don’t use anything scented. Those scented things use phthalates.
The worst thing for me is carrying everything up and down 2 flights of steps. The older I get, the harder it gets.
@Harbingerdc In our household this is my job. My wife does (most, not all) our laundry, but her knee occasionally (and unpredictably) goes out, so I carry the laundry baskets down/up the stairs to/from the laundry room.
@Harbingerdc, it’ll help keep you strong so you don’t end up invalid in an old person home.
Doing it on the regular.
Is the same as dishes. I don’t mind starting a load of dirty clothes or dishes. Moving clothes from the washer to the dryer is also fine.
Taking out the clean clothes or dishes to be put away is AWFUL DRUDGERY.
@kostia I don’t mind those things, dealing with stuff that’s clean. What I hate is dealing with stuff that’s dirty!
