We are surrounded by the fuckers here in the PNW. It seems every other human is one. I had lunch yesterday in a cafe in Oly. The food was amazing and all locally sourced of course (hipsters) but omg, I wanted to hit them with a stick. With the matching denim pants and shirt on her and her blunt Kate Bush bangs. ..and his flannel shirt and going on about the shit house music he was so into right now. Just. ...no.
@DVDBZN @jaremelz Once i got used to living in Buttfuck, i started to like not being somewhere cool. People are so much less into attitude and coolness. And w modern techno-ways, you're mostly just remote from the stuff that sux. People actually don't look through you in fly-over places. Just my thoughts....
@f00l I live in a place that's oddly between the two. We have a small town feel (our school district is very tiny, everyone knows everyone, but mostly for the better) and our actual town has only 6k people. But, we are on the edge of a bigger town. That, and trees. Oh so many trees.
@chitowntexan Not being a hipster myself (way to read, there buddy), I wouldn't know how they taste. But something tells me they'd rather rub locally sourced honey on their soft bits and sit on an ant hill than be your snack.
@jaremelz you obviously don't understand my original reference (who can't read now) so I'll clear it up "you gripe about hipsters while eating at some locally sourced cafe hipsters love and calling Olympia, Oly, ergo you're probably a hipster in denial".
@chitowntexan Let's see, lived in the town for years, while I was in my 20s, much love for it and that's what we always called it. I was treating an old friend and that's where they wanted to go, if you think it makes some random chick you don't know a hipster, meh.
@jaremelz I live in a city closing in on a 1 mill, metro area around 7 mill. There are small pockets of "cool" which can be nice or annoying, depending mainly on 2 factors:
Parking Attitude
Usually 1 or the other factor is fucked, hence my hatred. Sometimes both parking and Attitude are hi-qual at the same same, rare but fine.
However, mostly this 7 mill "extended Wallyworld" is Flyover Country, fine by me. Am in the W Buttfuck portion. The politics can suck, but it's easy to ignore many irritants. Easy to escape to genuine nothing, just a few miles.
In my part of Buttfuck, thx to hipsters, we have plenty craft beer, local decent wine, and are getting with local sourced free range food and vegan options. Local hipsters kinda know that any Attitude might be perilous and met by genuine pity and compassion.
Austin is a few hrs drive, and one might fear a solid wall of hipster, but with less Attitude than expected. The Austin locals also practice pity. This helps.
Also, when encountering Attitude in public, locals are known to smile/giggle in a friendly way. This practice seems to work pretty well.
@madamehardy I found Alice Waters was a pioneer in lifestyle cool. But w her, personal obsession and professional dedication, which is another thing than being hipsterish.
@MrMark Please post more photos of hipsters so I can see them. We don't have them in SE MN. MPLS. probably, but I don't get up there much. Are they mostly guys? [I did see some genuine yuppies years ago.]
@ALLCAPSORNOTHIN Thanks! How odd. I've been through hippies, yuppies, etc., but hipster culture has eluded me. No sure what this image evokes. The woman reminds me of people I knew who looked good unless they tried to get complicated. BTW I saw what I believe is a hipster in Decorah, Iowa today. The facial hair and pork-pie hat ... and vague disdain for anyone older and not cool...seemed evident. Too bad he was trying to be a furniture salesman.
@radi0j0hn Wooo...another crazy Minnesotan! Most of the hopsters are in the western suburbs (Maple Grove and Plymouth area) from what I can tell. That's the only areas I've seen them, bit those are the areas I frequent most.
Um, none of the above? Okay, maybe reviving good ol blue collar PBR. Except they drink it ironically rather for its intended purpose -- it's cheap and gets you drunk after a long day in the factory or the mine.
I think most people would agree that hipsters have brought back/introduced a lot of positive. People would probably be much more appreciative if the hipsters themselves were only in the background...way, way, way back in the background.
Well, I voted for walkable urban neighborhoods, but honestly, our area has much to thank hipsters for. I live fairly close to Nashville, TN, which is home to a suprisingly large hipster enclave. And honestly, they've done a lot of good.
We love the fancy craft cocktails and craft beers, and it seems like every week there's a great new locally-sourced restaurant to try. Our farmer's markets up here rock with handmade and locally-grown items. Vintage stores, which I completely adore, are everywhere.
I'm still going to tell those damn kids to get off my lawn for their smug attitudes, but I'll do so while sipping some retro beverage and munching a locally-sourced snack.
Hipsters are near non existent around me surprisingly, so I have no clue other than what I see online. Guess that facial hair does rock.
Hip is the new square. Daddy-O.

@jaremelz
Maybe you should join ys in Central Washington. They are practically non-existent here.
@DVDBZN My apologies, but then I'd be in central Washington. And, I just can't!
@jaremelz
Alright, your loss. It really is not all that bad here, you just have to get used to it.

@jaremelz nah, I don't like the taste of hipster

Having worked with teenagers, I voted "clothes that fit." But now owning a vintage store, I'm pretty glad that's getting popular again too.

Hipsters revived farm-to-table eating? News to Alice Waters...
The best thing hipsters have revived are violet liqueur and elderflower liqueur. Hooray!
@madamehardy
I found Alice Waters was a pioneer in lifestyle cool. But w her, personal obsession and professional dedication, which is another thing than being hipsterish.
Am fortunate that i encounter fair amt of reasonable cool, but rarely overload on attitude.
For some reason am growing steadily less tolerant of "cooler than thou."
If were in an extreme location, perhaps would develop a puking disorder. I used not to care. Have degenerated, i guess.
A hipster EMT revived my uncle - does that count?
@Pavlov Yes, because I've never seen your uncle.
Ball jars
Tom Baker scarfs.
@thismyusername Not an official Tom Baker scarf. Nowhere near 17-feet long.
Oh, they're all over down here in East TN, but with the rivers and mountains, they find things to do other than complain.
@lumpthar bristol tn checking in sounds about right.
Psh. I answered this question before you even posted it.
Obviously sock garters.

After you delve beyond the bearded hipsters you reach the artisan favorite hair hipsters, these hipsters brought back way shaving and it is fabulous.

@narfcake
Since when do hipsters wear clothes that fit? skinny jeans fit no one
Hipsters are to hippies as hippies were to beatniks? Oh yeah, I forgot yuppies. And disco people.
Where is the poll option for Hillary Clinton's political career?
