I red somewhere that he is green with envy of other colors and it once blue his mind that people actually like other colors. Orange you glad I let you know?
@SSteve Were the characters from flinstone vitamins only a specific color? I thought there were the same character in every color. (those simpsons videos may explain this but can't watch them now)
@chellemonkey I have a hazy memory of Barney being purple and he's purple in this picture. But that's the extent of my proof. (The videos explain nothing.)
@bluedog@SSteve Local Tampa band is called 'Betty's Not A Vitamin' which I thought was amusingly odd until I found out for some reason, Betty is the only Flintstones char not included in those vitamins. Then I thought that name was astounding.
It's a long-term project/game. If you note the colour or colours mentioned in the posts where @Barney appears and then map it out in order using Peter Saville's colour code, you'll eventually notice something surprising!
This is quite possibly my favorite post ever from Barney. You'd think by now it would get old, but somehow I continue to be highly amused by him/her/it.
@Cinoclav He can't be a robot because if you accuse a robot of being a robot they have to admit to being a robot. It also works for vampires and undercover cops.
@bluedog asked above Since when is purple a flavor?
My siblings and I used the term "purple flavor" for as long as I can remember, which means it dates back to 1965 if not earlier.
My father grew strawberries in the garden, there were two cherry trees in the back yard, and a raspberry bush behind the garage. So we knew what those fruits tasted like. They didn't taste much like each other.
Back then, we couldn't really tell which red fruit a particular glass of red colored Kool Aid, serving of red Jello, or red candy was pretending to be without reading the package. All of those artificially flavored products tasted the same, "red flavor". "Red flavor" was not anything like the red fruits.
By extension, artificial grape flavoring was "purple flavor", even though it wasn't as wildly wrong as "red flavor".
@SSteve whats funny is that flavor is derived from a real flavor that I did not know existed until I ate a Fox Grape and realized where purple drink flavor came from
@hamjudo Purple is also a smell in my family. My sister made a scented candle for me and when I asked what scent she used she said, "Purple." I knew immediately what to expect. It isn't grape-scented, but it smells purple all right!
@mehjohnson ... No, it was much more like a blueberry conglomerate.. I was literally hooked on that taste until the dip wads discontinued it for unknown reasons (probably from lack of sales due to little or no national advertisement) I wrote to them once and they said it's unlikely that they would bring it back.. The same thing happened to Kickapoo Joy Juice (a grapefruit soda) it was taken off the shelves because of pious snobs (they didn't think the name was appropriate). Thanks for the image as I've been looking for it off and on. I have the joy juice image but? Wait a minute! How did you apply the image on the reply without it offering to do this? Would appreciate any instructions.
@unkabob Think I remember the Kickapoo, or maybe just the grownups talking about it being dicontinued... About posting pics- I'm still getting the hang of posting links, too. This will be kinda long. There's a good thread by JonT, I think, called something like "How to post good". I'm dumbing it down to my level so no offense haha. Basically, if you find a link to a pic and it ends in ".jpg", ".gif", etc, you just post the url into your post and once you save ("Say it"), it should show up. If it doesn't, you have 5 minutes to delete or fix the post to try again. (Highly recommended.) If you google, etc. to find images; click 'view image' or 'copy image location', but be careful to look at the file url name- check it because if it's a huge file name of (encrypt?) long gobbledy-gook.. DON'T try to cut &paste it here lol! You want the shorter link file name ending in .jpg, etc. You can then test-paste the link name in a NEW browser window before you paste it here, if it pops right up in your browser it should work here. I've re-deleted many posts trying to not post bad links... Also maybe for your kickapoo pic- you can't just paste file names of pics from your pc, it has to be a url link from photo sharing site, etc. There's a bunch of them out there. I saw mention from folks here of imgur.com so that's what I've been using for now, it's fairly painless without having to set up account, or sharing circles and that crap. Hope that helps, good luck. (Hell, I haven't even figured how to get carriage-return etc. formatting in the text replies. I'll just keep them shorter, anyway. Once I find the thread "post good" I'll link it here.)
@mehjohnson ... Thanks for the link (and all your info) neighbor.. sad that we can't link from our pc but no real big deal I guess. Your instruction was well understood.. If there's anyone around you at this time tell them to pat you on the back for me ☺..
Can I just point out that after scanning the latest fuku thread my husband started questioning me about whether I had a fanboy or a stalker? It was rather awkward since I couldn't really remember how the whole thing started with @barney posting his/her love of purple and so I started stuttering about Georgia Red and purple and how a bunch of us really like purple, but it's the color purple people like, not me. Awkward.
@dashcloud ... Probaly sitting back gloating over his new-found popularity (that's what I would be doing) don't worry, he'll come back like gangbusters over the next color choice product.. as for now let him bask in his post success. (imagine, an entire thread related to one guys attempt to stand out above the others.. priceless).
@dashcloud i'm kind of glad @barney hasn't commented here... makes me believe there's no bot involved and it's just a person, which makes it even more delightful.
@katylava I actually only posted this thread to see if @barney was a bot or not. There were too many replies in the fuku thread when there was a color mentioned.
@unkabob oh I think even if Barney goat is purple Barney is annoying enough already that everyone will get perverse pleasure in tagging/blaming him/her and bombing his/her inbox. Although it would serve Barney right if the goat is colored georgia red that month Barney is the goat.
Definitely not a bot as the message is variable... Sometimes he(/she/it) loves the color, but others times he just likes it. Sometimes he proclaims his affinity to everyone, but others he's talking @someone in particular... If we want to find out more about this mysterious character we could preform a little experiment. We know he responds to many color references, but how wide is the scope? Does he only respond to primary color references, or does he also respond to more exotic colors like teal, crimson, or indigo? Maybe if we all drop a variety of references around the forum we'll be able to figure this scheme out.
I just like that @barney exists and is doing his/her/its thing here. It's one of those weird little goofy things that keep the product threads interesting to read. It reminds me of the early days of Woot when people like WOOTGOD would smite the product on offer or mac daddy1 would create a list of whiners for that day's product. Just a little bit of community-sourced entertainment/surreality to brighten the day.
I red somewhere that he is green with envy of other colors and it once blue his mind that people actually like other colors. Orange you glad I let you know?
@TaRDy Nicely done.
@Thumperchick brown-noser
Barney was always my favorite Flintstones vitamin because he was purple and that's my favorite flavor.
@SSteve Were the characters from flinstone vitamins only a specific color? I thought there were the same character in every color. (those simpsons videos may explain this but can't watch them now)

@bluedog PURPLESTUFF!
@bluedog Sugar, water, purple
@bluedog Since "food" became "artificial flavors and coloring".
Purple?
@axleman1011 I Hate Purple
He's probably just orange with loneliness.
I think he only shows up when there is a purple product to share his[sic] love for purple.
@Fen_Star He shows up any time a color is mentioned. It might take a day or two, but he'll get there.
Blue? Did somebody call me?
@bluedog
DON'T RIP ON @barney He LOVES me.....And YOU for that matter!
@TaRDy is a Rudy McTudy and I don't care who knows it!
It's a long-term project/game. If you note the colour or colours mentioned in the posts where @Barney appears and then map it out in order using Peter Saville's colour code, you'll eventually notice something surprising!

@Starblind Whew! That eases my mind a lot.
@Starblind That's the Second Law.
@Starblind ... Undercover cops? Well, not always (they have permission to lie from the brass).
@Starblind Now we know we have you to blame for the Captcha on the Fukubukuro 4 order page!!
@SSteve It's a necessary step for the greater good. The robot uprising must be stopped! SkyNet must fall!
Maybe it's a social commentary on the underdevelopment of the... I love purple.

@hamjudo Thanks. You answered that much better than I could have. Welch's grape juice is the quintessential purple flavor.
@SSteve whats funny is that flavor is derived from a real flavor that I did not know existed until I ate a Fox Grape and realized where purple drink flavor came from

He loves purple.
Has anybody ever tried Purple Passion? It was a soda made by Canada Dry (very tasty)
@unkabob I missed that one, was it grape-y? Makes me want to paint my room black and drape the pull-tab chains around my black-light posters.
@mehjohnson ... No, it was much more like a blueberry conglomerate.. @unkabob Welcome, glad it helped. Hard to read without the formatting, I know. Working on that next I suppose. On my list, anyway heh heh.
Can I just point out that after scanning the latest fuku thread my husband started questioning me about whether I had a fanboy or a stalker? @PurplePawprints ... Awww! I like you ms. pawprints.. Can I be your stalker? I like purple too (as well as red, chrome, green.....).
@MrPawprints It's OK - we like her like we like our sister.
Why has @barney not made an appearance in this thread, despite numerous good opportunities to do so? (Conspiracy!!)
@dashcloud ... Probaly sitting back gloating over his new-found popularity (that's what I would be doing) don't worry, he'll come back like gangbusters over the next color choice product.. as for now let him bask in his post success. @dashcloud These are too obvious n easy for him maybe. The subtler ones are funnier. plus his fingers may be tired from the product thread today.
@dashcloud i'm kind of glad @barney hasn't commented here... makes me believe there's no bot involved and it's just a person, which makes it even more delightful.
@unkabob We just need to make him the goat next month
@katylava I actually only posted this thread to see if @barney was a bot or not. There were too many replies in the fuku thread when there was a color mentioned.
@Kidsandliz ... Just make sure the goat isn't purple, we don't want him to enjoy his new position.
@unkabob oh I think even if Barney goat is purple Barney is annoying enough already that everyone will get perverse pleasure in tagging/blaming him/her and bombing his/her inbox. Although it would serve Barney right if the goat is colored georgia red that month Barney is the goat.

@heli0s he replied to "azure" on a thread where we were talking about Microsoft Azure
According to the evidence, he's proficient in upper and lower case letters, but his vocabulary is rather limited.
He just needs the meh color cure. Someone send him/her a sharpie.
I just like that @barney exists and is doing his/her/its thing here. It's one of those weird little goofy things that keep the product threads interesting to read. @jqubed I feel the same way. I like our little community jokes and characters
@jqubed I agree. A year ago I would've said it was impossible, but this place has amazingly re-created the feel and spirit of circa-2007 Woot.
I smile every time I am reading through a thread and hear "I love purple" from @Barney. It tickles me!
I love @Barney
