3 credit cards, one insurance card, one dl, and one key card that allows my car to drive. Plus currently a Wendy’s bogo coupon for their new fusion shakes. Never cash. I worked in banking. Cash is filthy. Plus I don’t have any.
@milstarr I recently had to get a bunch of cash for an arborist who wanted me to pay him that way, and I was uncomfortable walking around with that much in paper money on me!
@milstarr I keep cash for the farmer’s market. Yes, they take cards, but the cost to them goes up all the time (with no good reasons, save Square’s profit (or paypal or whoever they use)). I figure I save them a bit here and there.
@Kyeh@milstarr On one of my business trips to the UK I went to my bank to request 500 pounds in cash (I have an English wife so this should make sense ) They didn’t have it on site so they said they would send it to me. The next morning there was a Fedex priority overnight package on my doorstep. No signature required. They just dropped it and left. Seems like something you should sign for or at least be present to accept
@capnjb@milstarr I have to be very careful because it’s only me. If I’m not careful I bring home things that I don’t use before they rot. My plan for tomorrow is cauliflower broccoli green onions, and to see if the other heirloom tomato lady has anything to purchase. The first one that I love so dearly hers are all harvested and done but the two Merchants are at different altitudes and different varieties and so they harvest up different times
@Cerridwyn@chienfou@milstarr As a small person I used to hate cauliflower. When I adulted and learned how cook I learned how perfectly versatile it is. It can be used in so many ways. You’ve got soup, salad, dinner and dessert all on one tray I bet it will be delicious Enjoy! You better share pictures of the end product(s)
@capnjb@chienfou@milstarr
Yeah no pictures but the plans are of course the salmon I’m going to cook and probably with some of the tomatoes I have a recipe I wanted to try I have to find it. I have some chicken in the fridge and I’m going to make chicken salad with a green onions and the celery that I don’t think you can see in that picture. The peppers are going to make a fake stuffed pepper casserole thing where you don’t really stuff the peppers you just chop them up and cook them with onion in the meat and a little bit of rice and whatever else you want to put in it. And then the one head of broccoli and the head of cauliflower or at least half of it are going to just soup with some cheese and bacon and the potato once I remember where I just put it. The nectarine is going into overnight oats some of the tomatoes into salad and the cookies already in my stomach
work(rf)ID, 3 credit cards (one is also BJ’s membership card), 1 ATM/debit card, store credit cards for Home Depot, Target and TJMaxx/HomeGoods, Costco card, pacemaker card, health insurance card, blood donor card, driver’s license, copy of car registration, AAA card, Sheetz rewards card and two dog poop bags, folded flat.
I use a metal pop up style wallet that has room for
AmEx (main card for Delta FF points)
Visa (1% cash back)
Sam’s MC (store entry card and 5% back on gas)
NPS lifetime card
Insurance card
Debit card
With some cash (around $20-50 max) in the clip
Some cards change when I travel based on destination (for instance leave the NPS card and carry a second debit on international trips)
A few cards. A bit of cash. A picture of my daughter in elementary school so I know I’ve had it more than ten years now.
I do have a fancy new metal credit card that just does not want to stay where it is supposed to stay. I’ve lost it once already, which is scary because the card has no spending limit. Thankfully Amex has a reasonably navigable site and I could just click, click, click and they overnighted me a new one. I’m happy to say that whoever ended up finding it did not buy a yacht before I got back from the store.
@capnjb
Yeah, that’s one of the things I like about that pop up metal credit card holder. It holds the metal AmEx card just as well as the plastic ones. So far I haven’t had any of them fall out.

I haven’t carried cash for over 10 years.
I carry a ton of cash so I can try to buy my way out of trouble. I never know how much it’s going to cost to get out of trouble so I just keep a lot on hand.
@accelerator the ijit carries about 1k most of the time. He uses it to pay any local mom and pop places. Farms he stops at for fresh eggs. Oh and if he hits someone in his car gently and there’s little or no damage he’ll offer to settle it without the police coming. Like I said, ijit. Maybe because he grew up with me saying money was yucky dirty filthy stuff to touch. It’s another form of rebellion. Also sometimes homeowners pay him in cash for his work.
I carry a tiny ceramic frog. No idea if it’s true, but the paper that came with it said that the word for frog in Japanese also means return, so if you carry the frog in your wallet, your money will return back to you. Consequently, I get a lot of change.
@heartny “kaeru” sounds like “kaeri” which does mean “come back” (a lot of shows will have a family member welcome another with “okaeri[nasai]” – welcome back)
I keep losing my wallets. Centralization is not always a good thing.
But then again, I can never remember which pocket has what…
I used to makeshift my wallets – duct tape, expired credit cards, and copper loops – before getting really lazy and using those tiny plastic bags that come with electronics (like plug adapters or mice), but those wear out real fast.
@pakopako I’ve only lost a wallet once. And I actually didn’t lose it; I just made a bad choice.
I was 25 and decided I wanted to move to Tampa and I kind of threw everything I had in my '93 Toyota Paseo. (this was '96, so don’t judge me for driving a '93 )
The night before I was about to begin my 16 hour drive from DC to Tampa with all my earthly possessions, I did a load of laundry and when it was done, I found out my wallet was in the washer. I had every bit of information I needed in there. And it was no longer in there. I was crushed. Everything was ruined. But I pushed through. And here I am about 30 years later and I’m ok Life finds a way I also got married there, so I’m happy I didn’t punt when things went sideways
@capnjb@pakopako I lost my wallet once. Actually I knew (roughly) where it was/is, but could not find it. I was up in the attic of my house installing a ceiling fan. Later, I checked my back pocket and could not find my wallet. Apparently it fell out while I was working in the attic and was lost among the blown-in fiberglass insulation. I fished around for it for a while, then gave up. There was not much cash in it, but I had to replace all my id, driver’s licence and credit cards. I often wonder if sometime in the future, someone on a demolition crew finds it.
I haven’t seen cash in my wallet since I have been married.
Regret.
@yakkoTDI I get all my regret in incomplete kits of broken items.
Receipts I’ll never need for things I bought weeks ago.
But no cash and very little credit.
Two cards, a government issued ID, and a Band-Aid.
A hollow promise of unimaginable wealth, ironically filled with the vastness of empty space.

@Cerridwyn @milstarr This was yesterday. I should not be left unattended at a farm market

@capnjb @milstarr I have to be very careful because it’s only me. If I’m not careful I bring home things that I don’t use before they rot. That’s me too.
@capnjb @Cerridwyn @milstarr
Taking a wheeled cart to the farmer’s market was your first mistake!
@capnjb @chienfou @milstarr but if the ground is flat it makes life so much easier
@Cerridwyn @chienfou @milstarr Well… the shop does have two big bay doors but driving my car into the store would likely be frowned upon
@capnjb @chienfou @milstarr

@Cerridwyn @chienfou @milstarr Love it!

@Cerridwyn @chienfou @milstarr Sounds like a lot of yum
@capnjb @Cerridwyn @chienfou @milstarr But not the VERY end products.
Entirely too many things…
work(rf)ID, 3 credit cards (one is also BJ’s membership card), 1 ATM/debit card, store credit cards for Home Depot, Target and TJMaxx/HomeGoods, Costco card, pacemaker card, health insurance card, blood donor card, driver’s license, copy of car registration, AAA card, Sheetz rewards card and two dog poop bags, folded flat.
In my brand new wallet that arrived yesterday (amazing timing).
I have two credit cards, one debit card, insurance card, flex debit card, license, a Home Depot returned store credit/gift card, and $197 in cash.
3 credit cards, DL and insurance card, health insurance, AAA, and $40, just in case.
Moths.

the mention of punchcards has me flashing back. the horror
Too much shit.
@Star2236 Ummm… I believe that the question was what shit?

Driver’s license, two credit cards, a debit card, AAA card, HSA card, and my health insurance card.
I haven’t carried cash for over 10 years.
I carry a ton of cash so I can try to buy my way out of trouble. I never know how much it’s going to cost to get out of trouble so I just keep a lot on hand.
@accelerator My son does that too.
@milstarr I don’t know how much your son carries around but I have been known to have as much as $50.00 US cash in my wallet.
@accelerator
I always carry cash too, you never know when you’ll need it. I’ve been to many small restaurants that are cash only.
@accelerator the ijit carries about 1k most of the time. He uses it to pay any local mom and pop places. Farms he stops at for fresh eggs. In case you need a tiny frog too, when I lost my original, I was able to get a replacement from a museum here:

@capnjb @macromeh @pakopako There was a pretty neat story about a situation like this just recently.
