@Kyeh@pmarin Well they clean themselves with their tongues so… Sometimes? It’s more in the winter when they actually spend time inside and actually make use of the litter box. Cat pee is very ammonia-y.
@kjady Well I don’t want anyone’s pet to die. I was thinking more along the lines of kitty death matches with some of the more bad ass ones wearing bandanas.
@mike808 I had a super-weird coworker years ago who’d bring a strange mixture of fermented vegetables, supposedly a health concoction, and microwave it in the staff lounge right across the hall from my office.
@Kyeh@mike808 You want something that stinks. Try SE Asian Fish sauce. A bottle was sent to us not wrapped (eg meh style of packing). It broke. The post office called me to see if their employees needed to go to the hospital (they had it in a bit mail bag on wheels on the back loading dock). I told them it was edible (although not by me) and my kid loved it. Made our house smell awful every time she used it.
@Kyeh@mike808 The kind she liked was a very dark brown. No English on the bottle. Incredibly strong smell (that I hated but since she loved the stuff I just dealt with it - the entire house would stink for a while). I never could bring myself to taste it as I hated the strong smell. And I could certainly see why the postal workers were afraid it was something bad as I suspect relatively few people overall are familiar with the stuff and so had no clue what it was. Sad day for my kid though to find that bottle was broken, regardless of what the postal workers thought.

I think nuoc mam fish sauce is common to a lot of SE Asian cuisines. It’s easy to find in the US now, but I imagine it wasn’t when your daughter was young.
Spam.
@yakkoTDI You take that back!
SPAM - so good it’s gone!
@yakkoTDI @ybmuG Agreed, SPAM is the miracle meat.

Well its either the bird cage or the residue of the loud noise that I woke my wife up with-take your pick.
@Felton10 No thanks; don’t believe I want either.
Eight cats. Enough said.

@kjady Feels like you need natural attrition to do its thing…
@kjady @pmarin Litter boxes stink, but a healthy cat actually smells kind of like beeswax. A dog in need of a bath, on the other hand … retch.
@zinimusprime Well we had nine cats until our 23 year old died… Maybe not what you were thinking.
@Kyeh @pmarin My kitties are very healthy, its just a lot of cats… It can be a little overwhelming
@kjady @pmarin But the actual individual cats don’t stink though, do they? (I just hate that dopey Phoebe song )

@kjady @pmarin Well, yeah - I have one cat, and his box stinks, but I love the smell of his fur. Of course when they’re old or sick it’s different.
@kjady Well I don’t want anyone’s pet to die. I was thinking more along the lines of kitty death matches with some of the more bad ass ones wearing bandanas.
Those foul battery non-refrigerators!
@shahnm What, you don’t pack them in baking soda?
@werehatrack No need when you refrigerate them. Anyway I’m still not talking to you because you’re mean.

So many smells, so few olfactory receptors. THANK GOD!

My bad. Perhaps I microwaved that Surströmming a bit too long.

I have some - like this?
I bet those post office workers hated you for a long time!
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh
Hmm. Fermented fish water. What could go wrong?
@Kyeh @mike808 The kind my kid liked was browner in color. I am thinking it was Vietnamese made. Or Thai made.
@Kidsandliz @mike808
Tiparos is Thai.
It does make a good substitute if you need anchovies in a recipe but don’t have any.
