What games are you playing lately?
2With the poll topic as of this post being how many hours a week do you play games, I'd like to hear what games you're playing, and what you think of them.
If you're someone who doesn't do video games or doesn't do computer games, I'd really like to hear from you, as I am very curious about your reasons.
I'm playing Braid (a rather challenging puzzle game, but every time you figure out a puzzle it makes you feel like a genius!) & Little Inferno on computer currently.

My wife and son are hooked on COC like it is CIA backed crack. Their clan leader had to pull over to the side of the road in rush hour traffic on his way home the other day to "war" in time. Right then, I knew this game was going to be an issue - and it is . . . I really hate this fucking game! If it doesn't change after Thanksgiving, we're going to have a long talk.
I still play Plague Inc. a lot - but mostly while I'm on the toilet. Something about ending humanity in record time while I'm taking a dump just seems to work for me . . .
@Pavlov You should at least have them join the Mediocre clan! https://meh.com/forum/topics/you-and-this-armeh
@Pavlov I hear you, if you have to play it, it is not a game, but a job.
"Why is the cat wet" is a favorite around the Burglar household.
Unfortunately, "Hide the salami" doesn't get played as much as I would like. The missus just doesn't seem to enjoy it any more. I blame that study linking processed meats and cancer.
Animal Crossing New Leaf. If I don't play every day my friends move out of town. Make it stop!!!!
@sammydog01 My wife's favorite animal left town yesterday. She restarted the game about a dozen times hoping he wouldn't go. :(
@DrunkCat I'm glad I'm not the only one. Olaf just left- I had him for almost a year and it was sad.
Diablo 3 recently and when it shows up. I'm going to go play some fallout 4 again. I need to look at actually finishing fallout 3. I got to the last part but had side quests to finish. And never finished the final cut scene. Oh well.
Every time I try to break free of Final Fantasy XIV, it sucks me back in. It's a great game.
@Matrinka I liked that game until the quest line forced me to do a dungeon. I hate dungeons and being forced to do them made me uninstall.
I've been playing Rift, and just downloaded Wildstar to give it a try since it went free.
just yesterday, i played peek-a-boo with the 3 year old. and, the dog and i had a "what the fuck do you want?" staring contest. after which, he licked himself and walked away. i'm counting that as a win for me.
@carl669 usually when we play that game, the dog licks me and walks away.
@harrison i'm thinking he was pissed because he didn't get whatever it was he wanted.
@carl669 My dog has been playing a game of find-the-poo with me for the past couple of days. Basically the same game.
@MEHcus find the poo in the house?
@carl669 Yeah...but it's because he's had a little stomach bug the past few days to be fair.
OMG, Fallout 4. I was sick the past 3 days and of course stuck at home. I could not imagine a better use of my time as I probably sank about 7 hours a day into it since release. Great game.
@studerc I'm about to do something similar (hopefully) As my copy just came in :)
@studerc You were "sick" and stuck at home with nothing to do but play Fallout 4 for 7 hours a day, eh? A friend of mine works at a game developer here and a large chunk of the company mysteriously got sick the day the game was released.
@jqubed @studerc apparently it was a thing. Even pornhub felt the pain. Link is totally safe to read. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/pornhub-reports-10-traffic-drop-001436322.html
Rocket League is all I ever play since it came out 4 months ago. Color me freakin' obsessed.
@troy I can't do RL 1v1 anymore. It's way too serious and tense for just a five minute match.
@troy Is it really that great? I watched a couple videos and it looked fun, but I didn't think it would be that fantastic.
@luvche21 It's fantastic. You definitely need to try it -- easy to learn, difficult (but very rewarding) to master. 5-minute high-intensity matches, so you can always play 1 game, which usually turns into "just 1 more..."
Mind.
I'm way behind. Right now I'm playing Devil Survivor: Overclocked and Resident Evil 4 HD (having never played the original RE4). Both games released in 2011 that are enhanced versions of games that were released even earlier.
The Witcher III and Rocket League, basically.
World of Tanks Blitz on the ipad and various eshop games on the WiiU
Anything "Lego" with my 5 year old mostly.. (We're at 95% completion on Lego Marvel Superheroes, plus playing Lego Batman 1, 2, and 3.. And The Lego Movie Videogame)
Other than that, I have a ton of RPG's I want to sink time into, but realistically I mostly just play CoD:Black Ops 2 with my little brother and a few cousins.
I want to play more DOS, Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, and probably get into Fallout 4 (although I don't know when I'll find time!) I also need to play all 3 Witcher games (I started playing 1 when it was new, but haven't touched it since)
I'm hoping to get a new video card for black friday (or cyber monday), so let me know if anyone finds a good deal! Looking at something like a GeForce GTX 970.
Zelda: Triforce Heroes and Binding of Isaac's Afterbirth expansion.
I'm enjoying Triforce Heroes more than I expected to. Most randomly matched groups seem to be working well with me. Afterbirth is as good as I'd hoped, but pushed me further away from all achievements than I already was after Rebirth.
@draigun Ahhh, fuck I love Afterbirth. So many new enemies and item combos. Have you beaten the new end boss yet? I met him for the first time last night and got my ass handed to me :(
@Dweezle So I literally just beat Mega Satan again. (I'd beaten him before, but it didn't give you credit at all before Afterbirth.) Ludovico Technique with Azazel on the very first floor helped. :)
I actually beat Hush probably my first run after downloading Afterbirth. I honestly don't know how or why, because I hear a lot of people are having difficulties with him.
Finally just beat Greed mode for the first time after the recent patch finally returned Azazel's damage back, so now I'm having fun working with Lilith.
@draigun I went into the fight with Hush as Azazel with Guppy and only three black hearts, so I fought him nine times, and died every time...one hit each after the first death.
Path of Exile right now, although a little burned out after blasting through the flashback league. The current (PoE) Darkshrines league is fun but probably going to take a break until the next challenge leagues on Dec. 11th.
I was playing Satellite Reign before the challenge leagues, might go back to that. It's an amazing cyberpunk RTS game.
@The_Baron if you want. Look me up (same username) I'm thinking I'm going to play for a bit. See where the story went. I haven't played since open beta!
@sohmageek Added, I am usually on later 8-12 EST.
Monsters ate my Metropolis has been the game of the moment for me.
Still obsessed with GTA V - whenever I'm not drowning in my college coursework. XD
Counter-Strike GO once again. Nova4 but probably not for long playing as a ringer:
Every now and then I play Mike Tyson's Punch-out
Destiny - Super addictive FPS MMO
Rocket League - Google some videos - It's ridiculously fun!
I'm about to get Fallout 4. I can't wait!
Hearthstone
my battle.net id is organ donor if you want to friend me.
@Kevin good game, that. basically a simple MTG that's waaaaaaaay easier to get into, rules-wise.
I kickstarted the Megabots campaign and got a 'free' Robocraft bot out of it, so I joined the game. It has been quite a bit of fun, though I haven't worked out getting an aircraft to fly well so far.
And for just playing around, still Minecraft creative mode, excavating an underwater temple and building covered bridgeways and roads across the entire part of the world I've explored.
Playing Strider right now, from a fairly recent Humble Bundle. Loads of fun. Definitely needs a controller though.
I've learned that these days, if I'm going to get wrapped up in a game, it's probably going to be either a point-and-click-venture sort of thing, or a Roguelike. On the first front, I've been pretty caught up in Lumino City as of late. It's beautiful. The puzzles are fun. It's worth the entry fee. But, the game I'd like to prattle on about is actually an iOS Roguelike that's been consuming my mind and thumbs this week, Cavern. Cavern was first released… six years ago? It sucked. It was somehow written in Lua, it was insanely buggy, it was just… poor. Then at some point, Cavern 2 happened, and then Cavern 2.5, and now… this is a pretty solid Roguelike. Long mumbles ahead, so the TL;DR is: it's fun, it's a bit too easy, therefore I'd definitely recommend it as an entry-level Roguelike, but still think seasoned players will get their money's worth.
That said, here's my longform answer. I ascended this incarnation of Cavern on my 8th play. Anyone familiar with Roguelikes will know this is insanity. The reasons I can come up with are these:
There's no clock. Well, there are actually cute little clocks you can interact with to get the time, but there's no… time-limiting factor. A typical aspect of Roguelikes is nutrition. You get hungry as time goes on, if you don't eat you die. Cavern does not have this. Nor does it have any sort of evil murderous presence to descend upon you if you linger on a dungeon level for too long. Nor does it even have monster spawning. That's right, once you clear the monsters from a dungeon level, they're just… clear. There is no reason to be efficient, and no reason to rush.
Fog of war works like… from the perspective of the player, not the character. It's like a 3D fog going straight up. Ranged weapons can target anything visible. Assuming you can manipulate the disparity between character view and player view, you can shoot through walls and junk. And, you can shoot far. I played as a cute sorceress, so essentially all my attacks were ranged (magic), and taking damage was pretty rare.
Recall. In the beginning of the game, you should immediately buy a scroll of… well, I forget what it's called, but it's recall to the outside world where there are shops and goodies. Collect garbage not fitting your class, collect gems, collect gold. It shouldn't take long before you can afford an item which allows unlimited recall. Then it's basically a grinding game for selling garbage and rolling in the dough. Your pack size (strength) becomes the limiting factor, because you will get rich, and you can essentially recall infinitely and buy potions and shit.
There's probably more, but these things really immediately struck me as to why the game balance favors the player so much. It's still fun, and if you've never ascended in a Roguelike before, well, here's you chance! If you have an iPhone, I guess!
@brhfl Lumino City looks interesting. Too bad there's no Android version or I would have purchased it.
I'm obsessed with. ...sudoku on my phone, sadly.
Well and ingress.
@MsELizardBeth Ingress keeps sucking me back in. But I have to say I like the new key lockers.
@hallmike i got to 10, quit due to bullying, changed factions. While I was out, my hometown went from 0 players to 4 players. All the same faction. I'm back to level 11 but it's dull to play at home. (And if we get a portal built to 8 the same bully and his peons smash it)
@hallmike i did, however, get 3 badges to gold this past week while on a work trip.
@MsELizardBeth Yeah, our 8's don't last long. I keep trying to organize a group to go wipe the other team's farm but no one seems interested. I do most of my play out of town now.
Watching and then reading The Martian got me to fire up my copy of Kerbal Space Program again ("How hard can rocket science be, anyway?"), and I didn't realize they'd made a lot of improvements since I last was messing around with it. It's out of beta now and really good. It's been a week since I played, though, because I lost Jebediah Kerman on a spacewalk, and I've needed time to get past that. I've also been playing Boom Beach on my phone. This summer I played a lot of MarioKart 8 after my brother got a Wii U, but I still haven't finished getting 3 stars on all the cups at 200cc. That level is ridiculous. I needed to take a break from that because my hands were starting to hurt.
PAYDAY 2, and yes the device fucked their user base. This is the only game I broke my. "I don't buy pay to win games" (recently they added micro transactions for Stat increases)
Insurgency, just started.
Americans Army 3, just started.
Roller Coaster Tycoon2. Only when watching TV.
Rocks Smith, on rare occasions.
@caffeine_dude the developers fucked (sorry typed on phone)
Lately I've mostly been getting back into Terraria, Drox Operative, and Binding of Isaac Rebirth (with the new Afterbirth expansion). Dwarf Fortress' constant calling to me has been growing stronger lately too, especially since I started reading Lord of the Rings again, which doesn't really make much sense...
Hmmm...what else? I guess I played some Diablo II with my little sister last night, played Heroes of the Storm a week or two ago, Path of Exile a while back, Kingdom of Loathing every once in a while.
