What decided your meh tattoo location?
7I wanted visible to me, but in retrospect, that also made it easily photographed. I also wanted it kinda hidden, so people might sneak a peek but it was casual. And I wanted the edge of the flask (and the outline of the triskele on the other side) to continue the line of my ankle bone.

Shoulder seemed natural and easy to keep covered when I need it covered. Turns out to be a pain in the–well, arm, I guess–to photograph. Though it’s gotten easier with practice.
It was my first so wanted simple and small and not in a super obvious place. I got “meh” on my inside ankle and since my friends laughed and thought the meh shirt/sweatshirt I had perfectly fit my personality, they were even more entertained when they leaned I got it tattooed too. I’m kind of regretting not getting glen, or adding glen as well, because I love the idea of a sock peaking out of my sock for some dumb reason . Strange that the tattoos I want are more trollish/silly than have any important meaning lol.
I’m not real limber but taking a pic is pretty easy thankfully.
@scilynt Maybe go ahead and get as sock-peeking glen?
Running out of time. (I never got one.)
@ircon96 Same here.
@ircon96 @yakkoTDI
Would you have?
@ircon96 @Kyeh Yes. The last few months for me have just been unusually busy with random things that I just couldn’t get out to get inked for Irks.
@ircon96 Me too. I would have.
@ircon96 @kostia @yakkoTDI
Which one would you have gotten?
@ircon96 Ugh, I know that chaos. So if you could and would, where would you have put it?
@ircon96 @kostia @Kyeh I was thinking Glen or Meh or the cracked flask.
@ircon96 @kostia @yakkoTDI
Not a fan of Irk, huh?
@ircon96 @Kyeh @yakkoTDI Just the “meh.” It could pass for a normal sums-up-my-life piece, but with secret powers.
@kostia @Kyeh @yakkoTDI @brainmist I was leaning toward the cracked flask, which seems to sum up my essence as much as anything could, combining my love of science & my disaster of a life. As for where, i was thinking probably the inside of my wrist. I would love an Irk (there are some adorable ones that pop up in the Ink for IRKs threads), but i figured that would be a little too elaborate, since I’m not exactly a tattoo devotee. I thought i could use the “last chance” announcement as the excuse to finally join the club & at the same time, get the little memorial tattoo I’ve been thinking about as a tribute to my mom & sister. Maybe someday… Yep, if there’s one thing I’m not, it’s decisive!
I wanted it hidden almost all the time.
It seemed like it would still be fairly easy to photograph, but it’s trickier than I expected.
@Kyeh where is yours placed?
@tinamarie1974 Right about here:
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974 Wow, schmexy demo drawing!
@ircon96 @tinamarie1974
I was worried I would have a massive case of instant regret so I got it where I can’t see it. (I don’t.)
@sammydog01 Isn’t instant regret the point of the tattoo?
(upper arm) I wanted it where it would show pretty much all the time, and hopefully people would ask me about it. Kinda seems like the whole point of getting a tattoo of a business site in exchange for free stuff. It took me a while to figure out the best way to get a good photo of it, but now it’s easy enough. (people do ask me about it, so I tell them to check out the site.)
@Pony I wanted mine to be a hint of a secret thing.
@Pony I guess you’re right about that - I actually hid mine mostly because my mother is from Japan, and elderly, and for her tattoos are totally associated with the Yakuza, so she hates them. She’s at an age where she repeats herself a lot, and if it were visible I’m sure I’d be hearing about her extreme disapproval multiple times in every conversation! Too bad really, because I do think he’s cute and wouldn’t hate having him a little more visible.
@Kyeh @Pony You’ll just have to pick the right bathing suit & leave her at home when it’s time to go swimming!
The fact that I desire neither a tattoo nor an IRK made the decision pretty easy.
@macromeh How mature and sensible. (What are you doing here?!)
@Kyeh
I toyed with the idea for a while, but it would have meant a ‘trip to the big city’ since there are no shops in this small town and that ended up being too much hassle.
(I have a low tolerance for making extra effort for some things…) I do regret it though!
@chienfou So what would you have gotten, and where? (Probably one of the flasks, since you’re a nurse?)
@Kyeh
probably a flask or maybe combo meh and VMP badge.
as for where, most likely back of calf.
@chienfou @Kyeh ooooOOOO, you could do a badged M. Or an intersection!
I put my Irk on my lower left calf, mainly because I’m pretty well tattooed (he is my counts on fingers and some toes 12th tattoo), and that location meshes best with the other things I have.
My artist suggested inverting the image so he’s waving towards the other leg, in case I wanted to put Glen on my right leg.
@die13lda OK, your artist sounds lovely!
@brainmist It was a new guy and shop for me. The guy I usually go to in this area is on sabbatical/might not reopen his shop, so I had to look elsewhere. The location I went to was actually staffed for all of their business hours, which is 10 every day. There are a ton of shops around me, but I’ve found out that most are by appointment only, and I didn’t have time to mess around with that.
@die13lda Sounds like you found someone who gets the weird.
I wanted a really easy place to photograph, relatively easy to cover for work, and also a decent place for a good cover up when/if the time ever comes I want to aplurge for my family tattoo and the novelty of the IRKs has worn off (so probably not wver happening)
As a fat person, I’ve put all my tattoos over relatively boney areas to reduce stretching from weight loss/gain. I wrongly assumed that anywhere I could easily see would be easy to photograph. I went with the top of my left foot because it was enough out of the way to not be visible if i don’t want it to be and I don’t have any other tattoos around there and it’s not in the way of any planned future tats.
I threw it on my ankle because I had no idea what I was going to get out of it being the first, lmao. I figured worst case, would be easy to cover up and then for my second one for this year’s challenge, my friend did it who is an apprentice and her mentor really only wanted her to tattoo legs to start with and so we kind of just played around with it and figured that actually, above my first my tattoo was probably the best place.
Small
Easy to photograph
Avoiding:
/giphy PAIN
@f00l Did you feel any pain?
I really didn’t, just kind of an irritating prickle, kind of.
@Kyeh
Not real pain. Kinda what you describe.
It wasn’t an issue for me.
I was told certain locations (like places w lots of nerves, or directly over bone) would be more unpleasant. .
@f00l @Kyeh My daughter got a tattoo of a wing on the outside of her foot. She never got the matching one done on the other foot, so I’m guessing the first was an ordeal.
I’m generally anti-tattoo, but I never actively tried to dissuade my kids from getting one. I always just said that getting a tattoo is often its own punishment.
@f00l @Kyeh @macromeh My tattoo artist described the feeling as “spicy”, which I would say is about right.
@brainmist @f00l @macromeh
That’s a good description.
I mean there’s only one location to get a tattoo in like 20 miles so I guess it would be there.
I have others that are hidden, got them much younger and my philosophy was not to be seen in a business suit or ball gown. Looking back I rarely wear either so when getting this one I wanted it visible but not in-your-face. Hence, just above my ankle on the inside of my leg. I LOVE it!
@cbilyak Me too! Seemed like a good spot.
