@chuckf1 I look forward to fall myself, because of the mild temps and beautiful colors. (We had a fall wedding last year because i wanted the wedding pics to have the beautiful leaves/trees in our pics)But winter hell no! I HATE IT!
@chuckf1@PurrpetualNap
Over the last few years we’ve made an annual pilgrimage to the Northeast for fall color. Poconos (2024), Berkshires (2025), upper Vermont planned this year (2026). Adirondacs down the road (2027?).
@chienfou@chuckf1@PurrpetualNap Couldn’t you just get your den painted cheaper?
/showme a house den painted with various fall foliage color schemes and @chienfou sitting there counting his money
@chienfou@mediocrebot Um, bot, look up the difference between “painted” and “painting”,
and explain “STACK SATS”.
Never mind, looked it up.
Stack sats is simply another way of saying “accumulate Bitcoin”.
@chienfou@mediocrebot@phendrick I like it. With the money chienfou saves, chienfou can swap out the paintings for LCD picture frames. Make the walls a generic off white and use recessed lighting to change the color of the walls at will. Mood walls (as if that would work, HA!).
@cfg83@mediocrebot@phendrick
We built 2x4 ft LED panel lights behind simulated window frames in my son’s basement bedroom for his house near Pittsburgh. He can control them to simulate dawn for his alarm time… Kind of a cool project. I have to dig around and see if I have pics.
@PurrpetualNap
My friend in Wisconsin gets all that plus bears.
(Pretend the photo he sent me this morning of the bear in his front yard is attached because meh won’t let me add it).
@unksol
You need to work on your sense of contentment.
I don’t think I have led a particularly charmed life, but even in some of my worst times there was always something to make me smile. Latch onto those things…
@chienfou I’m going to have to disagree. Decades of “contentment” are how this happened. While CEOs slowly stole from their workers and eliminated the middle class. Manipulated unqualified politicians. Set laws to eliminate competition. The only way you get billionaires is quite literally skimming off the top of your workers efforts.
Now we have put gambling and corruption everywhere. And greenlit it. Everywhere.
I understand your (I assume) point about trying to find a bright point to get through a personal tough time. Depression. Etc.
If you’re at a point in your life where you can just ignore this. Fine.
I’m not in trouble yet but can see the cracks . The generation below me is completely fucked. Refusing to recognize the societal and economic problems will cause the fall of the US
@unksol
Without trying to sound like an ostrich with his head in the sand, I feel like my little corner of the world still allows me to be content most of the time. Do I worry about the future, especially for my grandkids, absolutely. Do I concentrate on making life a bit better for myself and my fellow citizens locally… Again, absolutely.
I guess it’s all part of my “how do you eat an elephant” philosophy".
That fall and winter are on their way.

Found one during construction phase.
@chienfou @mediocrebot @phendrick That’s cool. It reminds me of people that recycle the backlights of broken flat-screen TVs into panel lighting.
All of the bugs, snakes, cracked earth, irritating neighbors who want to chat for hours, kids not in school.
Skeeter season.
Ticks
Squash bugs
and
Cars that think they are toaster ovens.
Fire season (I live in a forest).
@macromeh This for me, too. I’m near the foothills, but around here you can even be out on the open plains & still have wildfire danger.
Skeeters, ticks, and snakes!!
@PurrpetualNap

Just got surprised by a deKay’s brown snake in the garden a few days ago. Thankfully I realized it wasn’t venomous so left it alone.

Skeeter is the right size for that area. Tick is a bit large though!
Working… These are the only two and a half months of the year that I wish I was back in public education…
Bugs and such
Forgetting it
ugh. My brain short circuited/I could literally think of nothing positive that would happen.
I am MOST looking forward to forgetting it. But I fear the damage will to great to correct.
I’m least looking forward to not being able to forget it

@chienfou I’m definitely not going to begrudge you that.
You should enjoy what you can. And you are correct in finding the bright spots. Grandkids would definitely be one
And dwelling on it probably doesn’t help.
But something something frog getting boiled
