@pitamuffin Pouring beer over ice is a thing, but the only time I've actually seen it is on an episode of "Three Sheets" where they filmed an episode in Vietnam. There, they pour bottled beer over large blocks of ice. Large as in larger than your regular household ice cubes but will still fit in a glass. Smaller surface to mass ratio chills the beverage while not watering it down too much. Making the ice requires less space and energy than keeping beer cold until it is needed.
@pitamuffin A lot of places put ice in beer. I've had it that way in both China and Thailand. Of course, whether you actually want to consider the beer they produce beer is another story.
@Kevin I prefer scotch that has had all of the peat filtered out of it...chunks of sod in my scotch is not to my liking, regardless of whether there's ice in it.
Scotch or brandy neat, always. Beer/wine as called for by style -- Guinness chilled is an abomination, but so is most weissbier at room temp. Mixed drinks as recommended -- e.g. my whiskey sour always comes on the rocks, they never even ask.
I hate ice in drinks, you get less drink. But I also don't consume alchoholic beverages so there are two correct answers here.
@WilhelmScreamer I just refill as the ice melts; you get more drink that way. :-)
Who the hell puts ice in beer??? Ice in wine is bad enough, but beer???
@pitamuffin But ice wine is super tasty!

@Kevin Naw, the peat is too chewy for me.

Good God, who puts ice in wine or beer?
Mad Dog 20/20 in a brown paper bag - that's how I roll!
Only cocktails.
Whiskey - neat.
Margarita. Shaken. No salt.
Irish creams are great on the rocks.
Beer + ice + a straw is the only way to go. I blame the beard for the straw - not sure what to blame the ice on...
@willduke I would blame the July Goat if I were you. @Starblind needs more blame.
