Oh, you beat me. I deleted the thread I started. Here’s what I said:
Now that I’ve pledged $50 for a year of VMP on the Casemates Kickstarter, I guess that means I’ll stop getting charged $5 plus tax once a month when it kicks in.
Here’s what I didn’t say because I was in a hurry trying to be first:
I hope my VMP doesn’t get broken at the end of the Kickstarter year because of snafus.
@SSteve existing VMPs will be receiving a similar offer as those signed up for word from WD did to extend membership. Which is to say, you’ll be accounted for and transition just fine.
@duodec Can you tell me how you and others got an email? I only heard about this kickstarter because of this thread. I get all other mediocre emails so something wrong somewhere. Is there another spot I need to subscribe to so I don’t miss these important messages?
@cengland0 I received an email at 10:04 Central today from meh.com (not mediocre) as “VMP Exclusive:…” that had the coupon mentions in it. I’m also subscribed at mediocre and do get very occasional emails from them. Both of the email subscription options in my account page are checked (Meh and Forum). Maybe double check yours?
My kickstarter and Meh emails are the same (but kickstarter has, for the unknownth time, decided that my email is unverified again…)
I imagine living in Delaware and not being able to receive shipments isn’t that big a deal. Can’t almost everyone there drive to another state in less than ten minutes or so?
If you’re in Alaska or Hawaii you’re screwed, though.
I gave you a bunch of money, @Snapster, but I REALLY don’t want the shirt. Could you send the shirt to @mflassy instead? That’d be cool. You’ll be happy, mflassy will be happy, and most importantly, I will be happy.
@f00l Wine dot Woot used to have Black Tie events when introducing a new wine, although I seem to recall the first time the balsamic vinegar showed up, it was via Black Tie. It’s been years since I’ve seen one, though.
OK stupid question- I wanted the early bird VMP and the remote party back but couldn’t figure out how to pledge both. I made a second account. Is that bad? Will I go to Kickstarter time out?
@sammydog01 basically the way Kickstarter campaigns handle this is to give instructions to add additional funds to the higher reward level to account for things not included. We have instruction to add $60 manually but doing it your way while the early-bird offer was up saved you $10. And no time outs.
First off, super-excited, especially because I could never get anything shipped to PA from wine.woot. EVEN THOUGH I COULD HAVE FOR YEAR ALREADY.
That said, since I’ve retained VMP, do I automatically qualify for the free shipping (assuming I hold on to it)? If so, the only benefit from Kickstarting this is the charter member badge and a shirt?
@ACraigL Yes. Also, any VMP supported rewards on Kickstarter would be linked and extend existing membership seamlessly. An email will share further bonus for that support later today. Acting now can get you early bird $10 off and auto-inclusion in that bonus.
@snapster The VMP bonus will just happen automatically? I linked over to the kickstarter through the email, but there’s no mention of it over there, just the regular description of the $60 level.
Maybe a non-issue? I logged in via facebook and it recognized me from my other mediocre accounts, but my email addresses are still different. I guess time will tell? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
In for the charter membership and a shirt. Not much of a wine drinker and somehow pre-paying the VMP makes me think that in a year I’ll be fighting to get my original VMP reinstated. Who knows, mehbe this will cause me to start drinking more.
@sammydog01 Figuring about $5 a shirt, that left me at $80 for the rest of the party pack. I think I could buy enough food and beverages for $80 to feed my imaginary 9 friends.
Hello VMPer!
Hey, it’s your friends who started Meh, and we’ve got a new project we’re working on:
We’re Kickstarting a new wine site called Casemates, and you’re the kind of community member we need in the mix to make it work. You’re active, you’re engaged, you’re smart, you’re funny, and you smell amazing. What is that, Dior? The lingering scent of the Wendy’s you had for lunch? Whatever it is, it’s terrific. You’re terrific.
In fact, you’re so terrific, we want you at Casemates even if we have to buy you in!
As a special offer to VMP members only, when you back our campaign for $60 (the “1-year Free Shipping” reward level) you’ll get half that value back in the form of three $10 coupons valid through the end of 2018 on any of our sites: Meh, MorningSave, and this new one, Casemates (where your VMP status gets you free shipping now, too). Even if you hate wine, that’s still worth it…
Tell your non-VMP friends: That $60 backing level is open to them too! It’ll be their first chance to get in on VMP since we closed the velvet rope behind y’all about a year ago. But the reward for new joiners is membership only. The bonus coupons are exclusively for existing VMPs like you.
The Casemates forum is up and running. Check it out, say hi, and start clinking glasses with your fellow Mediocre community oenophiles. We need you there!
And who knows? You may end up meeting your future case… mates!
Now I’m wondering if this coupon offer works for the Early Bird $50 VMP level also. My current level.
So confused.
And thinking of changing to the party level anyway, since I have not figured out how to do that plus VMP extension without creating a second Kickstarter account.
I think I’d rather have the party level, if I have to choose?
@cinoclav I’m with you brother. Shirt and badge. I am also concerned with the VMP pre-payment thing. I am thinking this is more alluring to those who don’t have it. But starting to think about the three $10 coupons of existing vmp members.
$60 backer deal
3 coupons for $10
shirt and badge
1-year vmp
like a free shirt and badge? But how does the free vmp work for those already paying for it? A credit?
@mfladd
< If we back the Kickstarter at the VMP tier as existing VMP members, does this mean our VMP membership gets a 12 month extension? In other words we wouldn’t be charged the monthly fee for the next 12 months?! It’s a no brainer if that is the case.
@Kevin I was surprised that Indiana wasn’t on the list, but woot eventually took indiana off of their do-not-deliver list as well, so I am thinking of tempting fate and going for it, even though I have access to wholesale liquor pricing.
@sammydog01 I did. Though I’m not entirely sure the VMP aspect will be ‘worth my money’, as it would take a fair amount of wine purchasing to make that so. I’ve just relied quite a bit on wine.woot and Amazon for wine purchases over the past few years and really feel like supporting whatever will fill that void.
@sammydog01 Doing the math on just the VMP aspect, and if I have my math correct the savings is $10/yr, yes? I guess if you don’t already have VMP, there’s an advantage. But if you are already VMP, the value is not so much in the VMP as the Charter badge and shirt?
@f00l Thanks for the numbers breakdown. I probably should have worded my words slightly better. I definitely don’t think it’s a bad deal, and I’m sure it will save folks money. But I’m not entirely convinced I will make five orders over the course of the year, the value to me is more just jumping in early on something I’m excited about.
As a special offer to VMP members only, when you back our campaign for $60 (the “1-year Free Shipping” reward level) you’ll get half that value back in the form of three $10 coupons valid through the end of 2018 on any of our sites
If a purchaser were sharing the cost and content of what they bought, in order to have more/cheaper purchases with more variety in their wine drinking, the VMP might have some $ value there.
@f00l That is a good point, we’ll just have to wait and see how the whole thing plays out, I guess! But my convoluted point was that I’m not worried about it, I just want this to exist
As a special offer to VMP members only, when you back our campaign for $60 (the “1-year Free Shipping” reward level) you’ll get half that value back in the form of three $10 coupons valid through the end of 2018 on any of our sites
I’m assuming the early bird level does not give you the coupons?
@ruouttaurmind so I bought the early bird for the tshirt as I suspect I wont be a frequent purchaser of wine…BUT 3 coupons for the price of annual vmp I already pay, making it 1/2 price??? Hmmmmm…would like to hear the answer too
@mikibell hopefully it does. Early birds usually offer all the same stuff, you just get a discount for being early. I’d hate to essentially lose a coupon because I was an early bird. Hopefully @Dave or @snapster weighs in soon.
@ruouttaurmind But I wish the new badge would be seen here and it won’t. I am not going to be buying any wine. And something tells me that I will be getting kicked off those forums so I am not exactly sure why I am doing it, except that you people are creating a gravity well that I am being sucked into.
@mfladd The $60 level gives $30 in coupons good for here, plus one year of VMP good for here, that’s good enough for me. None of the rest really matters.
The $60 level gives $30 in coupons good for here, plus one year of VMP good for here, that’s good enough for me. None of the rest really matters.
Sold. I just changed up from the $10 Early-bird T-shirt/Badge combo. I wish I had had somebody explain the extended VMP to me when they were at $50. Oh well.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@InnocuousFarmer As long as websites keep accepting credit cards, why should I complicate my life and use a 3rd party service like Apple Pay? Any advantages like a 2% cash back or something?
On my iPhone or iPad I can use TouchID and be done.
The merchant doesn’t get my credit card number.
Apple Pay isn’t a credit card. You attach whatever credit card(s) you want to it. My Apple Pay is linked to my Amazon VISA so I get points to spend at Amazon just like I would if I gave the merchant my credit card number. If you have a 2% cash back card you could use that.
@f00l @cengland0
yes and apple pay has tokenization security
translation: the website never sees your credit cards details, this way if the website is ever hacked, all they get is a one time token that cant be used again
@SSteve@communist so basically you have to use sites that are compatible with Apple Pay and I can imagine there’s no benefit at the merchant side. If all you get is the ability to use your finger print to make the purchase then I don’t see why you couldn’t use lastpass to store your credit card information and have it access that with your finger print.
Also, what’s wrong with the merchant having your credit card number? You have zero liability if the merchant uses your credit card inappropriately. Many credit card companies also have the ability to generate a one-time number that you can use if you’re that paranoid about giving it to a company. There are also free services that others have pointed out to do the same thing (can’t remember the name of the service because I’m not interested in it since you’d have to give that 3rd party your credit card number).
I can use Samsung pay at any local merchant without them having any special equipment. You just put the phone over the card reader and it sends out magnetic pulses that simulates you swiping your card. At least it was designed for simplicity because I know it’s accepted everywhere Visa and MasterCard is accepted.
@cengland0 I’m not ready to start shilling for Apple Pay yet, especially as I’m not as informed on implementation details as I’d like… if you already have an iPhone, I’d stick a credit card in there, though. I tried it initially out of curiosity, and kept using it because it was marginally easier than interacting with the credit card reader at the grocery store (it’s the same NFC deal as everything else, works with anything with the radio icon, in my experience).
I was commenting because, on the web, it’s apparently some kind of PayPal-like thing, but with hardware integration, no (at least visible) third-party redirections happening, and a nice-sounding “ding”—I’ve never had a less annoying interaction with a website around the exchange of money. It was one tap of a button, and then the thumbprint reader. I was impressed. It is as though they have recreated Amazon’s one click buttons for third parties, on phones, without logins.
@cengland0 Before I start I want to be clear that I’m not trying to evangelize you into using Apple Pay. If it’s not appealing to you, that’s completely understandable and I’m happy that you have something else you like. I’m just giving you reasons that it works for me.
I’m sure you’re right that there’s no tangible benefit to the merchant. There’s just the ability to offer a payment method that some customers appreciate (like offering payment through PayPal). But I don’t think there’s a cost to merchants other than the internal implementation costs.
Not being liable for fraudulent charges is not as good as not having fraudulent charges. A couple years ago I had three unauthorized uses of my credit card number in about six months. Yeah, I didn’t have to pay any of those charges but I spent way more time on the phone with the credit card company than I wanted to. I had to change my number three times which meant contacting everyone using it for automatic payments (wine clubs, phone company, utility company, etc.) Now I avoid giving my credit card number when possible. Mostly by using PayPal. Very few online vendors I use offer Apple Pay. And since splitting from eBay, PayPal has become much more convenient. They used to only allow a checking account as the default so I’d have to change the payment method to my credit card every time I bought something. Now they allow using a credit card as the default payment method. And they have some automatic authorization thing that I apparently turned on because when I’m on a mobile device I don’t even have to enter a password. So far that has been fine.
That magnetic pulse thing sounds cool. More and more of the bricks-and-mortar places I go to (grocery stores, hardware store, etc.) support Apple Pay and Google Wallet so I’m using my credit card less and less. I live in a rural area with a generally older population so a lot of times when I use my phone to pay it’s the first time the checker has seen it. I’ve gotten a lot of “Hey, what just happened?!” responses. My favorite was “What if the person behind you sees you use it?” Iike they’re going to steal my PIN or something. I had to explain that it’s way more secure than using a card.
@SSteve You frequently mention paypal in your response but if I were a merchant, I wouldn’t accept it because their fees are too high compared to accepting Visa and MasterCard. I looked it up and it seems Walmart accepts paypal and I’m shocked. Seems like only small mom-and-pop stores would do that.
If you have a credit card and you’re paying for products or services from a reputable company, I don’t see why anyone would use Paypal versus a credit card. I understand some people have bad credit and cannot get a credit card so those people can use a debit card. I can only imagine how long of a process it would be to enter all your credentials at the checkout to pay with Paypal when I can just swipe my card instead.
Paypal is a good idea for things purchased on Ebay because you’re buying from random people around the world instead of reputable businesses.
I’ve had my credit card shut down by the bank and replaced due to fraud too. It’s actually happened many times and it’s annoying. However, it’s never happened at the merchants that I shop at where someone made charges on my account. I think cards were compromised in bulk somewhere in the system so they replace the card as a precaution.
For those people that don’t like giving their credit card numbers out to anyone so they use Paypal or Apple Pay, the logic is sort of flawed because they have to give Paypal or Apple Pay their details. Those companies can get the data compromised too – just like anyone else. Major retailers have been responsible for some of the largest data breaches in history.
Can we hide in the corner behind the plants and decorations, and feel incredibly out of place, and wonder why we don’t get thrown out, and hope no one notices us?
Can we think every single thing we might say is idiotic?
@f00l Nope we are gonna wear tiaras, feather boas, and light-up Christmas Crocs. And we’ll ask everyone at the party for a sip of their wine and then drink the whole glass.
@sammydog01 I swear, I didn’t plan on drinking today. But I have the day off, and all this talk of wine is very, very inspiring. And I have a feeling 2018 is gonna be frikkin wall to wall bongo-drum clown show nuts, and I will need wine by the caseload. So. I will be wingman to your wingmanning of @f00l at the party and reasssure you both that your jokes went over great and nobody hardly noticed *at all that you got cheese dip on your décolletage.
I’m off to read Dorothy Parker’s “You Were Perfectly Fine”.
@f00l about 2.5 hours to the nearest town outside of Utah from my home. I pick some up whenever I drive through (once a year if that). Just sucks cause it’s illegal to bring it back into Utah and most of the local liquor stores have a terrible selection.
There is a movie theater in Utah called brewvies that almost had their liquor license revoked for showing the movie Deadpool. Something about how nudity isn’t allowed in places that serve alcohol. District Court ended up saying Utah can’t do that because it violates the first amendment. They still tried though.
This is what we get for having Mormons (that don’t drink) make the drinking laws.
You’re backer 304.
You have successfully pledged $60,000.00 to Casemates: a wine community site with direct vineyard deals. This project is now sixty-thousand steps closer to becoming a reality.
I was too late for the early-bird vmp, but signed up for the regular price full year ($60 level) for the t-shirt benefit. I see above that there was discussion and quotes about getting coupons for future purchases, but I didn’t see that info anywhere on Kickstarter. Did I miss that info?
Also, the only email I received was today’s normal Meh email which had a Casemate link at the bottom. Should there have been a separate email? My Meh and Kickstarter emails are the same.
@mfladd I’m getting $30 worth of coupons as a current vmp, so in a roundabout way, my vmp for the next year will only cost me $30 instead of the normal $60, and I get a free shirt. Even if I wasn’t getting the coupons, I’d still be coming out ahead with the free shirt assuming I planned to keep my vmp for the next year.
@mfladd Well, I assumed when I bought in that those who were referring to coupons knew what they were talking about (even though I hadn’t seen the info for myself yet), but the t-shirt was kind of enough for me anyway since I’m already spending $60 a year on vmp. It would have been silly for me to spend an extra $10 (compared to what I already spend) just for the shirt. Of course, now that I’ve bought in for a year of shipping, they’ll never sell anything I want again. My purchases have already drastically dropped in recent months.
@Barney I don’t think it does. I think they’re two separate levels with completely different benefits. @f00l, unless someone else already snapped it up, I think once it’s gone, it’s gone, even if someone backs out.
@f00l You can add $60 to the party level (so $160 total), extend your VMP and get the coupons. Because we’re limiting the Early Bird reward to 100, we aren’t able to have people add an Early Bird amount to any other level, so it has to be the full $60 amount. (It will still include the coupons for existing VMP members though.)
So you are telling me there will now be more competition for the 4pm VMP only hour during mehratons. Bummer.
But luckily I’m smart enough to realize by buying one of the $60 options, the makes one less available to non-VMPers, so there will be less new VMPers. Can’t get one by me.
So, I go over to the Casemates forum site, sign in (do you know how long it has been since I have signed into these sites - I am lucky I guessed the password), and I go to star a thread - nothing! I can’t do a thing in that forum! Have I already been fucking banned without typing a “fucking” word?!
Has Jean-Claude Van Damme already put a warrant out for me as Time Cop?
Has Tom Cruise foreseen my Crime and reported it in a Minority Report to the Octopus?
WTF?!
Well, this is what I was going to say, until I remembered that as a new site ScriptBlock probably needed a permission. Nevermind, it’s all good. Nothing to see here
@AttyVette As a current vmp, you can prepay 1 year, get your shirt and a bonus 3 ten dollar coupons for any Mediocre site for $60 pledge.
Just an fyi you can stay where you are or up your pledge as you wish. The bonus stuff would apply automatically if you do decide to change. There is no magic words or links that you need.
There should have been an email but the information is posted in several threads here and at Casemates.
@snapster
I don’t drink wine, but I want the shirt. I blame you, @therealjrn, and @narfcake.
@mflassy Heh. Indeed. I can’t get wine shipments in Oklahoma yet I’m still a charter sponsor with a t-shirt coming to me.
@therealjrn
Why didn’t you just select the Remote Launch Party Pack then?
At least you’d be able to brag about wasting money while getting food and 3 t-shirts.
@therealjrn
Oh, and @snapster will get to laugh at your expense.
So I guess he wins as well.
@mflassy
They have that for $10? You sound jealous.
Um…
@mflassy Blame
rejectedaccepted.I’m not feeling a strong “need” for a shirt, though a year’s worth of VMP (which I haven’t been using much recently anyway) seems to be a great value.
@snapster When is Mediocritee supposed to come live? It’s been two weeks since I’ve purchased any catshirts!
@therealjrn
I’m not jealous, YOU’RE the jealous one.
@narfcake
/roll 3d21
You rolled a total of 45
Take THAT!

@snapster
"just fine"? No fuck ups?
Is the sufficiently Mediocre?
@f00l was just thinking that officially we have to promise it will work for us to then fail
@snapster
Clarification accepted. Thx.
@snapster Does the $50 early bird work the same for existing VMP’ers as the normal $60 level? The email only ref’d the $60. Just want to be sure.
@duodec Can you tell me how you and others got an email? I only heard about this kickstarter because of this thread. I get all other mediocre emails so something wrong somewhere. Is there another spot I need to subscribe to so I don’t miss these important messages?
@duodec I was just going to ask that. And I just changed my Kickstarter email to my Meh email. Should I get an email? Gaaaa! So confused.

@cengland0 @sammydog01 I think it was from signing up for a notification from WCC. I found that from a mention on the forums here.
@duodec Thank you. I finally received the email but it was several hours after everyone else was already talking about it.
Sure, why not.
I imagine living in Delaware and not being able to receive shipments isn’t that big a deal. Can’t almost everyone there drive to another state in less than ten minutes or so?
If you’re in Alaska or Hawaii you’re screwed, though.
@SSteve 1.5 hours approx. if you live in the middle of DE. I cover all of it for work.
@SSteve It’s between 4 to 9 hours for me to reach another state. I’m in South Texas.
@cahuston
Texas residents can receive wine shipments.
@mfladd
So are you finally buying yourself a special permanent forum badge?
And some wine?
@f00l no wine, just badge
@mfladd
Happy for you!
/giphy badge
@f00l Changed over to $60 pledge for vmp extension and coupons. Hoping it is not a clusterfuck.
@mfladd
Somewhere or other, someone asked about the new Kickstarter badged.
@snapster said the new badges would show up on casemates and here on Meh. I can’t find the post right now.

@mflassy but i would prefer to give my money to meh as opposed to woot.
I gave you a bunch of money, @Snapster, but I REALLY don’t want the shirt. Could you send the shirt to @mflassy instead? That’d be cool. You’ll be happy, mflassy will be happy, and most importantly, I will be happy.

Ok, I’m in.
Great Joy!
Since this will all be so yummy, I think we should celebrate with a little Gilbert and Sullivan! The Mikado!

(~ 8 min of excellence)
Yum-Yum!
Before I head off to sleep, here’s hoping there’ll be some Black Tie events. I really MISS those.
@Shrdlu
Are these standard social black tie events to which you refer?
(I tend to be famously incompetent at these, and had best not attend such.)
Or are they something specially Mediocre that I know nothing of?
@f00l Wine dot Woot used to have Black Tie events when introducing a new wine, although I seem to recall the first time the balsamic vinegar showed up, it was via Black Tie. It’s been years since I’ve seen one, though.
@Shrdlu
Thx.
I’m in too. Any chance of the remote party pack for one instead of ten for those of us with limited social skills? Asking for a friend.
@sammydog01 Sounds like 10 parties for one if you don’t share.
@sammydog01 I only have 4 or so friends. To resolve this; I will ship the part pack to my office. Boom co-workers will indulge.
@snapster Extra t-shirt too. Now I won’t feel guilty. Thanks.
Can we expect shirt dot meh in a couple months?
@Lighter It already exists (kinda), which a punnier name: https://mediocritee.com/
@Lighter secretly, the entire plan in selling Woot to Amazon was to stick them with the subdomain thing-dot-brand naming convention.
@snapster With the shirts lacking shirt.woot tags for a few years now, I feel they’ve been actively destroying that.
Get back to me when there’s a Kickstarter for a retail site specializing in knives, powerbanks, and Bluetooth speakers.
@lljk Whoa slow down buddy let’s get the Candy Corn Wholesale site out first alright?
First off, super-excited, especially because I could never get anything shipped to PA from wine.woot. EVEN THOUGH I COULD HAVE FOR YEAR ALREADY.
That said, since I’ve retained VMP, do I automatically qualify for the free shipping (assuming I hold on to it)? If so, the only benefit from Kickstarting this is the charter member badge and a shirt?
@ACraigL plus saving $10 for the year by buying it at one fell swoop.
@RiotDemon Could have just switched to Geico and saved 15% or more.
@ACraigL Yes. Also, any VMP supported rewards on Kickstarter would be linked and extend existing membership seamlessly. An email will share further bonus for that support later today. Acting now can get you early bird $10 off and auto-inclusion in that bonus.
@ACraigL A LIMITED EDITION shirt
@sammydog01 I am in for the shirt!
@snapster Thanks! Was looking for the clarification, but I backed already!
@snapster Got the email, updated my pledge. Thanks!!
@ACraigL Email? What email? I didn’t get an email. My Kickstarter email is different from my Meh email- is that a problem?
@sammydog01 The one @snapster referenced. Spam filter, maybe?
@snapster The VMP bonus will just happen automatically? I linked over to the kickstarter through the email, but there’s no mention of it over there, just the regular description of the $60 level.
@snapster Similar to @InFrom’s question – my email address is different on KS than it is here. How do I ensure the VMP bonus gets applied?
Maybe a non-issue? I logged in via facebook and it recognized me from my other mediocre accounts, but my email addresses are still different. I guess time will tell? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

In for the charter membership and a shirt. Not much of a wine drinker and somehow pre-paying the VMP makes me think that in a year I’ll be fighting to get my original VMP reinstated. Who knows, mehbe this will cause me to start drinking more.
@cinoclav I don’t drink wine and ordered the party pack. I hope I like some of it?
@sammydog01 Figuring about $5 a shirt, that left me at $80 for the rest of the party pack. I think I could buy enough food and beverages for $80 to feed my imaginary 9 friends.
@cinoclav Make up your own mind on the rest, of course, but don’t worry about your original VMP going away.
@dave Sold. Just switched it to the 1 year deal. The coupons certainly make it worthwhile.
@cinoclav COUPONS?

@sammydog01 @PurplePawprints It should arrive at some point. In the meantime…
@cinoclav It came!! They do know I exist!
@cinoclav Thank you! And like @sammydog01 mine finally came ten minutes ago, too.
@cinoclav No mention of Mediocritee, so I can not haz catshirts? I blame
@therealjrn@snapster.@cinoclav
Ok. Finally get it. And I suck at email.
Hmmm. Still confused.
A credit?
@mfladd
< If we back the Kickstarter at the VMP tier as existing VMP members, does this mean our VMP membership gets a 12 month extension? In other words we wouldn’t be charged the monthly fee for the next 12 months?! It’s a no brainer if that is the case.

@kelaiem Yes.
dave said a few seconds ago
Sorry, didn’t read everything above. I may have to make a change.
@Barney Ohhhhhh…thanks. I will have to make a kickstarter change it seems
@mfladd The above was in a different thread.
Do I get a new double backer badge?
@jml326 current plan is Casemates badging to exist on Casemates community forums and Meh here. So yes but no.
@snapster are you allowed to ship orders to Indiana?
@Kevin relying on @winedavid49 and each winery for that but I did note it wasn’t on the “never” list like you noted.
@Kevin I was surprised that Indiana wasn’t on the list, but woot eventually took indiana off of their do-not-deliver list as well, so I am thinking of tempting fate and going for it, even though I have access to wholesale liquor pricing.
Just out of curiosity is anyone that’s not already a VMP doing this?
@ruouttaurmind
@brhfl
With casemates shipping running arounf - was it $10-12 per shipment? - 5-6 wine shipments a year would reach breakeven on VMP.
Fewer, if the VMP is also saving on shipment for puchases from Meh.
If someone plans to purchase wine actively from Casemates, the VMP value seems pretty strong.
@f00l Not a drinker of the vin, so no value there for me since I already maintain VMP. Unless, I want to have a persistent forum badge I guess.
@ruouttaurmind
Those are cheap. ; )
@f00l, @sammydog01, @brhfl
Well, here’s the wrinkle in my assessment:
@brhfl
There is the “share a shipment” aspect.
@ruouttaurmind @snapster
I’m assuming the early bird level does not give you the coupons?
@RiotDemon Early Bird is no longer available, but for those that joined in… that’s a great question.
@ruouttaurmind so I bought the early bird for the tshirt as I suspect I wont be a frequent purchaser of wine…BUT 3 coupons for the price of annual vmp I already pay, making it 1/2 price??? Hmmmmm…would like to hear the answer too
@mikibell I don’t partake of the vin, but I can’t resist a bargain.
@ruouttaurmind me neither and YES!
@ruouttaurmind I just changed mine…wt heck!
@mikibell hopefully it does. Early birds usually offer all the same stuff, you just get a discount for being early. I’d hate to essentially lose a coupon because I was an early bird. Hopefully @Dave or @snapster weighs in soon.
@RiotDemon @mikibell @ruouttaurmind
You people are making my head spin with all of this!
@mfladd Right? I just gave up and signed up for the special K so I wouldn’t have to burn anymore brain cells on the subject.
@mfladd
@ruouttaurmind But I wish the new badge would be seen here and it won’t. I am not going to be buying any wine. And something tells me that I will be getting kicked off those forums so I am not exactly sure why I am doing it, except that you people are creating a gravity well that I am being sucked into.
“Scotty, more power!”
@mfladd The $60 level gives $30 in coupons good for here, plus one year of VMP good for here, that’s good enough for me. None of the rest really matters.
@mfladd you are welcone btw!
@ruouttaurmind omg, the chance to squeeze in on a year of VMP PLUS the coupons!?! My inner cheapskate just drooled a river.
/giphy I am a river to my people Lawrence of Arabia
@mikibell oppsss…that is You are welcome, @mfladd…have a cold so the m sound wasn’t accurately pronounced!
@ruouttaurmind
Sold. I just changed up from the $10 Early-bird T-shirt/Badge combo. I wish I had had somebody explain the extended VMP to me when they were at $50. Oh well.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Cheap VMP? Sure, why not.
Oh man. Any of you guys ever used Apple Pay on a website? I’m not exactly sure what just happened, but it was… pleasant.
@InnocuousFarmer Yeah, it’s great.
@InnocuousFarmer As long as websites keep accepting credit cards, why should I complicate my life and use a 3rd party service like Apple Pay? Any advantages like a 2% cash back or something?
@cengland0
All in all it’s simpler, not more complicated.
@SSteve
So it’s a personal Apple account and device payment setup similar to VisaCheckout?
But easier, because hardware ID verification, and integrated with phone?
@f00l
@cengland0
yes and apple pay has tokenization security
translation: the website never sees your credit cards details, this way if the website is ever hacked, all they get is a one time token that cant be used again
http://www.zdnet.com/article/apple-pay-and-security-could-tokenization-be-the-tool-that-curbs-data-breaches/
@SSteve @communist so basically you have to use sites that are compatible with Apple Pay and I can imagine there’s no benefit at the merchant side.
If I want both
~the Early Bird VMP continuation (my current pledge),
~and either the wine country party invite or the remote party pack,
do I manually edit my pledge on Kickstarter to add $100 to the amount of the pledge?
If I do that, how do I designate what the extra $100 is intended for?
If a backer signs up for the CA party attendance and is later unable to attend, can the backer switch to receiving a remote party pack?
Thx.
@f00l I want to go to the party. I never get invited to parties. So far away…
@sammydog01
I do poorly at such events. Pre-schooler levels of “don’t belong-ness” kick in.
But it might be a hoot. And in wine country!
I would be all in intimidated by the “know-somethings” tho.
@f00l I would be your wingman. We could feel out of place together.
@sammydog01
Can we hide in the corner behind the plants and decorations, and feel incredibly out of place, and wonder why we don’t get thrown out, and hope no one notices us?
Can we think every single thing we might say is idiotic?
That’s a party!
I’m off to read Dorothy Parker’s “You Were Perfectly Fine”.
http://fullreads.com/literature/you-were-perfectly-fine/
@UncleVinny Thanks for the book link!
@therealjrn OMG! If you liked that, you have to read more Dorothy Parker! If you want to grow up to be a big hairy goat, it’s a guaranteed winner!
@UncleVinny That was a fun read.
@UncleVinny A big hairy goat eh? lol I haven’t read the story yet. I bookmarked it for later.
I just now did a quick google search on the book. My, my, a lot of popularity out there! So my
"thanks" still stands.
@therealjrn Dude- it’s two pages long.
I thought the name sounded familiar.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/casemates-joins-the-mediocre-family
@mflassy
You didn’t remember your own topic? I did. What a great tease that was.
And what a great payoff!
@f00l
I don’t even remember what I ate last night.
@mflassy who?
@therealjrn
Me. I don’t remember what I ate last night.
@mflassy do you remember what you ate for breakfast this morning
do you remember you mediocre password?
@communistjack
Have not had breakfast yet today.
dang it! thought i was clever replying in another thread about this #latetotheparty
Utah sucks ass so much. I just want to be able to buy some nice alcohol online.
@Skylord123
A long way from the border?
@Skylord123 That’s all?
Now let’s just hope these guys don’t get too lawyerly. https://case-mate.com/
@PurplePawprints it was a separate email for vmps only. I got it recently in my promotions Gmail box.
@RiotDemon Mine finally came about ten minutes ago (I’ve been vmp almost continuously since the beginning.)
@PurplePawprints But you can get the t-shirt for the $10 package. So what is your thought process exactly? This is all confusing me.
@PurplePawprints Ok, you just said you wanted the shirt above. I did the same for the coupons. Let’s see if they get this VMP thing right.
/end verbosity
Please someone talk me out of the party for 10.
@sammydog01 you can buy the cheese and crackers you like at the grocery store.
@sammydog01 If it also came with the VMP it would be well worth it. Otherwise, not that big a deal.
@cinoclav
@sammydog01
Comes with the tasting group privs.
@f00l Not worth it to me as I’m not much of a drinker.
@RiotDemon @cinoclav Thanks. I cancelled.
@f00l You did not help. At all.
@sammydog01 @f00l I can’t wait for my 10 person party. Just need to figure out who at work I like that most.
@sammydog01
: (
@jml326 Want to sell one of your shirts?
@f00l I’ll give you another chance. Why should I NOT buy the party package?
@sammydog01 I’d consider it. If they give us an example before I have to pick sizes I’ll try to find you again.
@jml326 I’ll be here. I always am.
@sammydog01
I was reading your post as a casual request for comment, not as a precisely stated formal request for argument.
I think the reasons you sought have been covered by others.
/giphy ~not
signed for the $60 level. how does it get tied back to your user? the email i use for kickstarter and the email for meh/mediocre are different.
@carl669
https://meh.com/forum/topics/welcome-to-the-mediocre-family-casemates#5a453ee54c225b0b3490c0ff
@f00l see, the problem is, @dave probably expected people to read and find answers. which, in this age is a very unreasonable assumption.
@carl669
I just freed up a $50 Early Bird VMP level.
Switched to the party level.
I dunno if it comes with coupons, but if someone wants it, go grab it.
@f00l But does the Party level include VMP? I am so confused.
@Barney I don’t think it does. I think they’re two separate levels with completely different benefits. @f00l, unless someone else already snapped it up, I think once it’s gone, it’s gone, even if someone backs out.
@PurplePawprints That’s what I thought. @f00l, you better re-read the Party Level option.
@PurplePawprints I’m thinking that @f00l has now lost her Early Bird VMP, right? And she now has no VMP with the Party Level option?
@f00l You can add $60 to the party level (so $160 total), extend your VMP and get the coupons. Because we’re limiting the Early Bird reward to 100, we aren’t able to have people add an Early Bird amount to any other level, so it has to be the full $60 amount. (It will still include the coupons for existing VMP members though.)
@dave Thanks for clarifying this.
@PurplePawprints
The $50 Early Bird VMP showed visible and pledgeable in Kickstarter again, once I swapped to Party. I checked.
Bet it is gone now tho.
@dave Thanks for the info about adding on the $60 with the party and that it will include the existing VMP coupons.
@f00l I did as well. Took me all day to read my email
@f00l You’re going to Sonoma? I’m so jealous. Embarrass Snapster for me, OK?
@sammydog01
I’m not.
Unless there is some kinda Very Unexplained Positive Event.
I just wanted to leave open the possibility of a Very Unexpected Positive Event for a day or two.
As I mentioned. I prob would feel quite uncomfortable going, even if it were down the block.
Sometimes, when I get to someplace social, all is well. Other times, not so much.
And I’ve no other personal justification for being in wine country. So … I’ll have vanquished this little extreme fantasy within a day or so.
So you are telling me there will now be more competition for the 4pm VMP only hour during mehratons. Bummer.
But luckily I’m smart enough to realize by buying one of the $60 options, the makes one less available to non-VMPers, so there will be less new VMPers. Can’t get one by me.
So uh, I got the third-from-last early bird thing, and then got an email saying the $60 one came with $30 of coupons. Do I need to pay $10 more now?
@InnocuousFarmer Nope, save your money, @dave said that the early bird VMP’s also gets the coupons. Congrats.
@Barney Thanks, I had looked, but didn’t see that above.
@Barney I looked up Dave’s profile and couldn’t find that message. Are you sure it wasn’t @da3ve or something like that?
@sammydog01 @InnocuousFarmer It is over on the Casemates website:
https://casemates.com/forum/topics/do-early-bird-vmps-get-the-10-coupons
@Barney Thanks!!! One more place I have to keep checking.
@dave maybe you’ve said this before. If I add $60 to my $100 does this include 2 Casemates Kickstarter Shirts?
I missed the meh Kickstarter so I did the thing!
Maybe it’ll soothe some ragerts.
This is a great deal, but one that I cannot take advantage of. Bummer.
Will it be possible to buy wine by the bottle rather than the case?
@sjk3
From somewhere or other that I can’t find right now:.
By the 3 bottles or similar quantity option.
Or share a case. Save per bottle by splitting a case up with someone local.
(they intend to offer this service eventually.)
Or buy a case for yourself.
Dang it, I don’t even drink, but pledged anyway. Like others, the badge, shirt, and VMP pre-pay deal is too good to resist.
@lordbowen
I looked at it, seemed like a waste, then those coupons kept gnawing at me. Looking forward to the tshirt.
@Pantheist
Go West, Young Man!
There’s a party!
/giphy "manifest destiny"
Nothing to see here
@mfladd
You recovered and whole yet?
I’ve done that. Nothing quite like being the trapped victim of one’s own careful setups.
Esp w sw/extensions. Esp if you can’t remember which sw/extensions.
Swearing at myself for being a total idiot does eat up a lot of time, some days.
Don’t drink so this is really meh to me —-but wanted a T-shirt so $10 pledged just for the shirt
@AttyVette @speediedelivery is correct. I took the $60 deal because it made sense as a VMP financially with little bonuses. I won’t be buying any wine.
@speediedelivery thanks for the information - I just changed fromthe. 10 dollars pledge to 60 dollar one !
@mfladd appreciate you also telling me about the other perks - just changed mine to 60 dollars too .
