I’ve never really understood the appeal of sliders.
Unless you’re talking about White Castle sliders, which totally rule. When it’s super late. And you’re plowed.
Man, do I miss White Castle out here. sob
@haydesigner Whitecastle rules. You’ll probably think I’m nuts but the frozen ones in the store aren’t half bad when it comes to either having them, or not.
@haydesigner White Castle…Yummmmmm. I used to go to NY and bring back 30. Why aren’t they further south but you can get them in MN? Makes no sense to me.
The frozen ones just don’t do it for me. Now I’m hungry and it’s after midnight. I’m too old to do a road trip at this time of night.
@haydesigner You can make your own. I swear they will taste exactly like White Castle (or Krystal’s if you’re living down South). You just have to assemble the buns on a cookie sheet with the mustard, pickles, steamed minced onions (just dice and microwave them in a small covered bowl) prior to baking the meat (yes, BAKING).
Try this recipe and make sure you have plenty of counter place.
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1lb ground chuck
American Cheese, sliced
Yellow Mustard
Sliced dill pickles, or drained dill pickle relish
Minced white onion
8 three inch rolls (potato rolls work well)
Set oven to 350 degrees. Line medium sized jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
Mix dry seasonings with ground chuck.
Place meat in center of pan, slightly flatten.
Cover with meat plastic wrap. Using a rolling pin, roll meat until it covers the surface of pan. This will result in a very thin burger.
Remove plastic wrap.
Using a pizza wheel, cut meat into 8-10 sections. They will shrink about 20% as they cook, so be advised.
On a different pan, slice & assemble rolls with mustard, pickles, onions, & cheese. If you use well drained dill relish instead of pickle slices, you can
mix mustard, relish, and onions together in small bowl to make assembly faster. I put mustard mix on one side, cheese on the other. Leave rolls “open faced.”
Place meat into oven. Cook approximately 8-10 minutes.
At five minute mark, place pan of rolls into oven to heat slightly.
(Watch like a hawk.)
Meat will be done when it’s a lovely shade of grey. These aren’t going to be in long enough to develop a Maillard reaction.
Remove pans from oven.
Quickly assemble burgers and cover to keep warm.
@mike808 I’m pretty sure that’s an urban legend. It makes no good business sense to combine ground beef with a more expensive meat like liver. The taste comes from the ratio of meat to fat.
@haydesigner I have a White Castle less than five minutes away. They just aren’t as good as they used to be. I’ve heard it’s something about they can’t put the onions on the grill or on the meat or together, something like that. However, their bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches are great. You can watch them break the eggs, they’re real.
@LaVikinga That would require some forethought (or patience) as White Castle is really only good @ 3am. I love the limos at the drive-thru that time of night! My 3am+ nights are mostly behind me, but I’d take White Castles over the In-N-Outs where I live now any time of day. There are 3 things on the I-N-O menu; what on earth takes so long?!?
@haydesigner I don’t know how far south you can find a White Castle, but certainly south of MN. The original is in Blue Island, IL (used to play softball against a team whose field was right across the street from it) & they are all over Chicagoland.
@narfcake First, I don’t think any of the FF places do the heat lamp thing anymore (I take that back; it wouldn’t surprise me if White Castle did), but I could be wrong. I am not suggesting that I go to places like McD or BK. There are lots of other places to get a better burger freshly made in far less time. I understand INO does not pre-make their burgers, but if your choices are single, double or triple and there is a long lime, shouldn’t the patties just keep flowing? Slapping on some gunk to make it Animal Style, disgusting IMO, shouldn’t add 15 minutes to the order processing time. Their employees should go train with those of Portillo’s in Chicago/NW Indiana. That is a place that has an extensive menu, makes everything to order and clears a line about 25x faster. Not to mention the food is much better, but that is beside the point seeing as there aren’t any here.
I learned something about myself today. $6 for Ginsu knives, I jumped on two sets. $38 for a shop vac I have never heard of, ok I’ll bite. $8 for whatever this is? Absolutely not. I have no idea why… Huh!
That’s 365 mehs in a row for me. One year. 708 total over the almost two years. I think I only missed about 14. I celebrated with a good steak. Goodnight!
This time of year in the beautiful capital city Mildendo many summer festivals are happening and one tradition I love is giant burgers!!! I must confess my love for the Weston PragoTrade Sliderz 5 slot Burger Press!!! The burgers it produces are so large in stature that surely you can easily share one with a family of 4 Lilliputians and all would be full for days. If you desire to embellish your giant hamburger I beg you consider boiled eggs, opened from the small end of course, for safety’s sake.
In for 4 although I fear I know not what to do with the grinders, but it appears it might be perfect for milling the grain harvests, if we can gather enough men to operate each one, of course I got VMP it be a giant in shipping value.
@cshillaber I… I don’t know if this is a serious post but I only want the grinders so maybe we can work out a deal? I mean I know part is not serious, but if you’re buying 4 for realz.
edit: I’m fairly certain that you’re not actually buying 4 and now I look silly.
Nice write up for recipe… And I just want to say. THERE ARE TOO MANY GREAT QUEEN SONGS TO HAVE TO PICK JUST ONE. That being said, frozen White Castles are nowhere close the real gutbusters…I tried them a few weeks ago. Of course, I was at work, so not Faced…They taste best after a long night at the bars…And Meh on this deal, the only thing I would want is the grinder.
I threw mine away. My zucchini hardly ever fit properly. There’s a different spiralizer that you can use for apples, potatoes, or whatever else. That seems more practical because you stick the food onto some prongs, and the cutter rolls along the outside of the food instead of basically being a pencil sharpener.
Haven’t bought it yet. I might, if it comes up on meh.
Just received the items this AM in the mail and must say quite a bargain both look like nice quality and very functional, these are the deals i look for low price point gadgets I’m sure they will work just fine but for 4 bucks each shipped its really a great deal love me some MEH ty Meh team you guys rock

@LaVikinga except doesn’t White Kastle also have that special ingredient, ground liver mixed in? It’s what gives them that special taste.
Too bad you don’t have the recipe for chicken assholes. I mean rings. Whatevs.

@rrichmon Unlike many other fast food places, the burgers are NOT premade and sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long.

Awesome write-up, nice shark week reference, crappy product.
A bit higher than I normally budget for, “Crap that I probably won’t even unbox”.
Really have to give @kylethephotoguy a hand.

@KDemo And a surgeon to reattach it.
I must be drunk.

Taking two utterly meh things and combining them into one deal does not make them Supermeh.
@mike808 Plus I heard that SuperMeh v. BatMeh was a stinky movie.
I’d rather have the milk shake pictured.
I learned something about myself today. $6 for Ginsu knives, I jumped on two sets. $38 for a shop vac I have never heard of, ok I’ll bite. $8 for whatever this is? Absolutely not. I have no idea why… Huh!
For some very sad reason I already own this hamburger press. But I have never used it yet. Years…
shit, I still have the one I bought from woot! maybe 4-5 years ago, used it once…once
WHat a piece of shitttt!

I’d buy the spice weasel by itself.
Want the grater, don’t want the hamburger press. I very rarely make hamburgers.

true story: Trump doesn’t need this—his tiny little hands with his tiny little fingers are perfect for making tiny little burgers.
@ticklescratch which is why he thknks his penis is just … huuuuge.

Meh! Sell me 2 grinders for $8! You’ll save money on shipping.
7 pm here on the east coast and they have only sold 267 of them. I know what will be in the next Fuko bag.
@dino2269 maybe they’ll sell them again but with a watermelon knife or some other silly gadget.
@RiotDemon I already own a watermelon knife.
@sammydog01 a vegetti then?
/image vegetti
@RiotDemon Yep, that might do it. And I don’t have one.
@RiotDemon I’d pick up a vegetable spaghetti maker.
