Watchers
10If you’ve never read Dean Koontz’s book Watchers, it is now on sale for $1.99 at Amazon.
This is my most favorite Koontz book and may be my all time favorite book when I’m not enjoying, “It’s the end of the world and we’re all gonna die books.”
Do you like dogs? Buy this book.

Hey! A fellow Dean Koontz fan, here!
I think his Odd Thomas series was one of my favorites by him.
@gogrrl
Yep, I’m a huge Koontz fan, too.
I loved the first Odd Thomas book and the second one was OK. But then he started to get into his often too freaky Dean Koontz self and I kind of lost interest in them.
@Barney Yes. The first one was definitely the best of the bunch.
@gogrrl @Barney One of my all time favorite horror/suspense novels is Intensity by Dean Koontz. It takes off on a wild ride in the first few pages and doesn’t let up until the end. I’ve read it twice and am about ready to take a third spin.
(I also enjoyed the Odd Thomas series, but totally different vibe.)
@Barney @gogrrl Felt the same about the Odd Thomas series: loved the first, second was good, third was meh. Just realized there are seven books and five short stories/novellas in the series and I have the seventh.
The series
@callow @gogrrl I guess I didn’t realize there were so many OT books. I gave up after the third one. And the movie was just awful (same goes for the Watchers movie). Why is it that so many good books are ruined when they make movies out of them? Stephen King’s books are a good example.
@gogrrl @macromeh I, too, will re-read favorite books quite a few times. Also, I’m buying a lot of my old favorites in Kindle form, so I’m re-reading more and more of them.
Amazon has been having some pretty good sales on Koontz books, so I have been filling up my digital library with them. I see I still have a coupon, so I’m going to buy Intensity. I don’t remember too much about it except for the heroine’s name, Chyna, and that I did enjoy it. So, time to have another good Koontz book reading experience.
@Barney @gogrrl For another Dean Koontz story with a kick-ass heroine, check out his Jane Hawk series.
)
(And if you do, notice the striking similarities of the Edgler Vess character in Intensity to the villains in the Jane Hawk books.
@gogrrl @macromeh On my “To Buy” list!
Hum, must have been a timed sale b/c it is no longer $1.99
@tinamarie1974 See if this works.

You must read this book. It’s a little weird in places, but it really is very good.
@Barney oh thats the kindle edition. I just cant read it online. Im a bit of an old sole about such things.
I got the paperback, ill let you know what I think
@tinamarie1974 The first time I read it was in paperback. I still liked it.
Yes, please let me know what you think. I feel like I should offer you a refund if you don’t. Nah, that ain’t gonna happen.
@Barney

@Barney book received. May start reading tonight
@tinamarie1974 I do so hope you enjoy it.
Just remember that Koontz is a little weird and parts of the book me be kind of strange at times, but please stick with it.
@Barney all good I like his work and have read a lot of his titles. Somehow not this one
@Barney @tinamarie1974 back up to $8.99
Dean Koontz is not a very good writer. Dean R. Koontz is better.
@yakkoTDI OMG you sent me down a rabbit hole! Wanted to see if they were the same author because I’ve never noticed the R on his books. Looking at the Dean Koontz bibliography page and see his other pseudonyms. Then saw Ricochet Joe, novella, a Kindle motion book which contains moving pictures and interactive parts.
Had to look up Kindle motion books! Now I’m buying Ricochet Joe just to see what it’s like! (only $1.99)
Now I have to read about Kindle Points.
@callow Hey, thanks for the info on motion books. I’ll add this one to my Koontz collection. Ya learn something new every day.
I have the audio version of this book. It’s read by Eduardo Ballerini. Say his name and imagine what his voice might be like, and you won’t be far off. I should listen to it again.
I was a junior in high school when I read this book. I was working 3 jobs to pay for my apartment because I coul not live with my parents one second longer, and one of those jobs was a 4am paper route along the ocean front properties where there had recently been like 4 murders. There was a weird noise in a bush, and I was convinced it was the …not dog… from this book. I froze and had a terrifying and luckily very fast debate with myself about what is was and what is was not in those bushes, when a 6 foot homeless guy rushed me and I redirected him with my 4 d battery maglight and ran to my car. He turned himself back around and rushed at me again, but I was already back in my car and driving away. My front windows were down because I was throwing newspapers out of them, and I knew I couldn’t roll em up and reverse safely, so I may have lost a rear view mirror that morning but I kept my life and limbs. As scary as the real life incident was, it was nothing compared to what I thought was in those bushes. LOL I still think of that book 30 years later when I drive past those apartments if I go to a beach near there.
@Barney That’s my favorite Dean R. Koontz book too. Second favorite is Tick Tock. I actually had my car painted bright aqua metallic because of that book.
@Pony Wow, you really are a big fan.
@Barney @Pony I’ll keep an eye out for it.
One thing I’ve noticed after reading many of Dean Koontz’s books: most (not all) of his villains are basically the same (effete, sociopathic) character.
However, I still enjoyed reading most of them.
Also one of my all-time favorites. Thanks for the memory

@llangley
I was always a fan of Twilight Eyes (his book, not the awful “Twilight” movies…).
@zinimusprime I don’t remember Twilight Eyes. I’ll have to see if I have another Kindle coupon and add it to my collection.
@Barney I read it 20+ years ago, but I remember loving it.
