@esjacobs A puppy is a responsibility, a uke can just sit and gather dust if you don't want to play it. I imagine this sale will catch the attention of people who've been wanting to learn. To those people I say: do it! Or take your $70 and stop by a local music store tomorrow, and pick one up.
@esjacobs I disagree. The Uke is a great learner/intro instrument, but as with all musical instruments (or all things in life), buying cheap crap is a poor way to experience something new. This looks to be a solid kit and if I wasn't already in the process of making 2-3 Ukes this winter, I'd probably go in on it. The Jake Shimabukuro (not to be confused with fukubukuru) videos are incredible, but also remember he's playing a Tenor uke. This is one step below that as an Alto (vs. the next-smaller Concert vs. the "typical" Soprano Uke that everyone associates with "Ukulele.")
@InFrom@corrado I meant responsibility in the feeling of having to learn the uke because someone purchased it for you, as opposed to your own interest. And in terms of the quality, I trust meh items are always "solid" enough. I'm just saying that someone who wanted to get a uke wouldn't be waiting for the best sale to come along. The intersecting circles of those looking to buy a ukelele and those who visit meh is very small. In conclusion, I'm saying that this item looks fine, but may not be the best item to sell on meh.
@esjacobs your statement is not true sir/ma'am. I have been wanting one for years but i just got one since I am too lazy to waste the gas to drive 30 minutes to my nearest local music store for an overpriced ukulele
I can't remember how much this set was on Woot the other week. Nice uke. I just started playing last summer. So much fun! You spoilsports up there in the previous comments, don't knock it until you've tried it.
Tempted just to incite terrorism at family gatherings. My bonnie lies over the ocean preformed in suck flat. My Bonnie lies over the ocean, my Bonnie lies over the sea, My Bonnie lies over the ocean, O bring back my Bonnie to me.
Chorus: Bring back, bring back, O bring back my Bonnie to me, to me: Bring back, bring back, O bring back my Bonnie to me.
O blow ye winds over the ocean, O blow ye winds over the sea. O blow ye winds over the ocean, And bring back my Bonnie to me.
@Cinoclav Along with the alto recorder, violin, banjo, and used baby grand in the corner of my living room. My "one of these days" pile of musical crap. Still, tempting....
This is a good buy on this starter pack, but IMO anyone seriously interested in playing the ukulele would be better advised to spend the $70 on a better uke, carry it in a gym bag, and download a 99 cent uke app. I.e. the instrument here is technically not a toy but it is kind of like how those Sears electric guitars in the catalogs weren't toys...
@cometwatcher Jimi Hendrix learned on a Sears electric guitar and played one for years on tour. I just said it on the internet, so you can believe its true.
@PilotJim Good point actually. And there are many blues legends who learned on homemade cigar box guitars. Jimi and those guys, though, were extraordinarily talented musically and extraordinarily motivated by music. And they didn't have the internet to comparison shop. For us folks with average talent, learning on a decent instrument can be the difference between having a conversation piece that mostly gathers dust and actually developing a lifelong hobby. This is a good deal on this particular starter pack, but for the same amount of money - or just a few bucks more - you can get a far superior instrument with everything else on offer here save the book....so I think this is meh.
@username I can't stop obsessing over her outfit. is that a cotton hoodie paired with a men's suit jacket? The hoodie fabric looks like hospital scrubs...
@username I love Garfunkel and Oates so much. Saw them in Chicago at the House of Blues and my only complaint is that they didn't miraculously decide to play a two-hour show to appease me.
This is a great present for the kid that has everything and you don't know what else to get. I can forsee being THE most popular counselor at summer camp by playing this in the evenings. The tween girls would giggle in my son's presence, and sigh when he left. The younger kids would just appreciate the fun factor of singing On Top of Spaghetti with accompaniment.
Can my ears survive the learning curve? He has a few years before being old enough to be a camp counselor, but that is his dream. Hmmmm
Order Adherent-Portly-Stork. I've been playing around with the idea of buying one because I love and want to learn to play this song: This deal just cemented it, and I can always buy a better one later. Thanks Meh!
Ok MehMan you finally got me. The Meh 'door' is now open. Turned on to you by my son who told me the story of your former wootdome and been checking daily for maybe about 1 month. Saw your Ukelele for Dummies pack (yes after buying the cheapass Amazon one about a year ago but not doing much of anything with it). Thanks to the clowded judgement of a moron I'll be trying to achieve a pseudo-bucket-list activity once again with your product. Thanks, I think. p.s. For all of the "mehdiocre" items that have paraded by daily, thanks for not offering many (if any) refurbed items. I think your competitors have served up way too many of them; I'm obviously not a fan. 'Til then. Congrats on your "2.0" efforts. I think Meh might be another one of those simple and strange but adorable success stories that achieve a cult status. With a little mainstream pub, who knows? Craigslist- or eBay-like awareness embedded into the public psyche.
@smburkhart Could be a few things that cause that, two of which shouldn't be a problem with this uke. 1) Cheap fretboard with mis-placed frets. 2) Misplaced bridge. Those two things are possible on bottom-of-the-barrel instruments and pretty much "game over." 3) Nylon Strings. As you tune up an instrument with Nylon strings, they continue to stretch over the course of time. Initially they won't stay in tune for more than 5 minutes. Eventually (months) they'll stabilize and only require minor adjustments.
I want this so bad. But, knowing me, it would sit in the box for a year or so and I'd wonder why I ever bought it. Good thing we don't have any money right now.
A: Nope. Nope. But, apparently, many of you are using a freight forwarding service to order and ship out of the US, which seems to be working just fine.
@StrawHousePig That was awesome. I didn't know it was tUne-yArDs when I watched it. I know they love her on All Songs Considered but she never clicked with me. But after watching that and her Tiny Desk Concert I think I get it now. Thanks for that.
If you're unsure of what kind of power you can wield with a Ukulele, check out Amanda Palmer - https://www.facebook.com/amandapalmer - she brings a whole lot of heart, but damn does she bring the house down with the Uke.
@bleecornell Hey! So, I just checked this for you (partially because I'm neurotic, partially because I'm a half-decent guy). You received a broken tracking number. I'm going to see if I can look up your email and I'll send you the right ones. They're supposed to be delivered on 12/17.

I'm not hipster enough to need this yet.
meh
meh.
bought one for my niece three years ago... she's since moved on to banjo.
@Noddy93 And that's a bad thing? Public schools have no music programs any more.
I think it's great... she took that Uke to Korea and played it in front of a couple hundered kids.
This has to be some sort of joke...
Needs banana for scale.
Nope. Tiny Tim I am not.
This has to be one of the more interesting yet still incredibly meh things you've offered. Neat.
Dual baby arms.
Well congrats to the buying department, this wins as the worst item yet
no no no - wth.
@foodog
Hey, it's all good. Sometimes it's Bluetooth speakers or Roombas, sometimes it's... meh :)
Just when you think you've seen it all......
will it work on a mac?
@alacrity
@nadroj well played, sir... well played indeed.
Uhhh....what?
Ukulele players would already own a better one, and getting one for someone who can't play it is like hey, here's a new responsibility.
@esjacobs A puppy is a responsibility, a uke can just sit and gather dust if you don't want to play it. I imagine this sale will catch the attention of people who've been wanting to learn. To those people I say: do it! Or take your $70 and stop by a local music store tomorrow, and pick one up.

Does it have a speaker dock for my iPod?
Hells yeah I bought one! My neighbors are gonna be so happy! I wanna be as good as Jake Shimabukuro someday!
@Fish_Kungfu YES!! Ukulele Weeps!
@GoatLord I updated the link to go to "My Guitar Gently Weeps".
@Fish_Kungfu George Harrison was an avid ukelele player.
@HermitCrab Not sure how to post YouTubes, but here's someone else who says so:
@InFrom oh, that was pretty easy.
@InFrom, thanks for that 8.75 minutes of fun.
What the? OK...I don't even have words for this. Wait. I have a word. meh.
Now I must know, exactly what DID the Deep Sea Say?
just need a hole in the box.. Meh
As the description said, this isn't a toy but it's awfully damn tiny. About 2 feet long.
@ruouttaurmind That's what she said
Me to the eh.
Wow, 12 people bought this so far
Sell me the uke only for 60 and I won't click meh.....
I can't remember how much this set was on Woot the other week. Nice uke. I just started playing last summer. So much fun! You spoilsports up there in the previous comments, don't knock it until you've tried it.
I know this is a deal-a-day site, but I'd rather that the deals not be made with Satan, thanks.

@Outofmymind Ahhh ha ha ha, your forum name isn't "outofmymind" for nothing:)
@Outofmymind And how many of us actually sang that in our heads as we read the words? So, earworm of the day.
I'm oddly tempted, but I know I'd play with it for about two weeks before it went into the 'screw this' pile.
@Cinoclav me too.
@Cinoclav Along with the alto recorder, violin, banjo, and used baby grand in the corner of my living room. My "one of these days" pile of musical crap. Still, tempting....
Oh I am indeed non certified certifiadly crazy. Just don't tell anyone, they could try to take me lucky charms over that.
I'm actually kind of tempted by this but don't have $70 for this.
@jqubed Same here. I want to buy it but just can't justify spending $70 on myself right now
This is a good buy on this starter pack, but IMO anyone seriously interested in playing the ukulele would be better advised to spend the $70 on a better uke, carry it in a gym bag, and download a 99 cent uke app. I.e. the instrument here is technically not a toy but it is kind of like how those Sears electric guitars in the catalogs weren't toys...
@cometwatcher Jimi Hendrix learned on a Sears electric guitar and played one for years on tour. I just said it on the internet, so you can believe its true.

@cometwatcher You are totally correct :-) And I couldn't agree more. Anyway...I doubt Jimi learned on one.
I'd buy this set...if I didn't already own it! Good deal. I like mine. Still learning.
It's not a carillon practice keyboard. For that Meh.
Yeah... meh.
you're losing me
@yozman what does that prove? I hit meh even if I buy it xD
If I wasn't so poor I would jump on this in a second. Sadly, I am so poor.
:-'(
UKULELE?!?!
Aren't they like Banjos for the terminally inane?
@Dr_Jim Yes! And that will be my new theme as soon as mine arrives!
Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.

Hey now, the ukulele can be pretty badass
Order Adherent-Portly-Stork. I've been playing around with the idea of buying one because I love and want to learn to play this song:

Eddie made a soundtrack with one
@commodog I'm hearing mostly mandolin here... Why not both?
You guys better buy these or they'll end up in our fukus next time.
Meh
hipster starter kit
Which of you is buying me this for Xmas?
Bought one for my wife, she was just saying she wanted one the other day.
The Blues on the uke!
()
What is the return policy like if it doesn't work correctly? I bought one of these before and it didn't tuned properly.
Now who'd have thought the uke would be so popular in Pennsylvania?
Why isn't Hawaii on the map?
@ManBehindThePla From the FAQ's:
Q: Do you ship internationally? What about AK/HI?
A: Nope. Nope. But, apparently, many of you are using a freight forwarding service to order and ship out of the US, which seems to be working just fine.
@Cinoclav but Alaska and Hawaii are in the states too...
@Twiggy115 I don't make the rules, I just read them! I'd imagine it's because of the additional shipping costs involved.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
@jrwofuga It's not Georgia Red, but... This is the red one I got. Paid 50 bucks and supported a local merchant.
@jrwofuga That's my boy!
I love purple.
Can this be in the next fuku? I want one but no money right now
If you people let Meh sell these, you know what's next? You know what's next?
Mercifully, he doesn't play for the first 25 seconds or so. Unfortunately, well...
Ukulele, bass, repeater, and that voice.
@StrawHousePig My dog just howled in misery at that. And he's been dead for 5 years.
@Cinoclav I'm so sorry to hear that your dog has such lousy taste. :_(
@StrawHousePig That was awesome. I didn't know it was tUne-yArDs when I watched it. I know they love her on All Songs Considered but she never clicked with me. But after watching that and her Tiny Desk Concert I think I get it now. Thanks for that.

Back in Black
Most people call this size a "concert" ukulele -- you might want to add that to the listing.
yay! expensive firewood!
Will it get me laid though?
@Peanut_Buddha Yes
@Peanut_Buddha Probably, but you wouldn't like who it got you laid by.
@Peanut_Buddha it worked like magic for Don Ho
I was Tiny Tim for halloween. I'm pretty sad I won't be able to buy this due to meh reasons :/
Don Ho's family laughs at you.....
I have been to receive these ... No luck ... Shipping label created but not shipped 😥. Such a Meh experience!
@bleecornell I'll make sure we look into this tomorrow, sorry for the trouble.
@bleecornell Hey! So, I just checked this for you (partially because I'm neurotic, partially because I'm a half-decent guy). You received a broken tracking number. I'm going to see if I can look up your email and I'll send you the right ones. They're supposed to be delivered on 12/17.
