Top 10 jazz albums... thoughts?
1So I just logged into my Google Play account and saw that all jazz albums on Blue Note Records are on sale for $3.99. I enjoy jazz but only have a couple albums in my collection (Coltrane, Hancock, Norah Jones). So any jazz aficionados out there willing to clue me in on their top 10? The sale include the likes of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Norah Jones, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Greg Porter, Chet Baker, Duke Ellington, Bobby McFerrin, and many more.
and I confess that there are some jazz albums that I've had to switch off because they simply hurt my head.
thanks, ah meh in advance

I love music but I've never really gotten into Jazz, maybe because I've never been told or shown what the classics are or a good point to start from.
I think Jazz can also fall into a "music for musicians" territory if it gets too experimental and out there.
I bet @ChadP would have some recommendations.
I love the old stuff. I am one of those people for whom jazz died with Basie.
From that selection of albums at that price, I'm getting all the Coltrane, all the Thelonious Monk, all the Art Blakely, all the Miles Davis, and all the Duke Ellington. I'd probably grab the Sonny Rollins as well. All would be steals at 3.99.
Also, the best of Buddy Rich is one of my favorite all-time jazz albums. Just a great collection.
@ChadP Excellent. Thanks for the insight. Any other thought about must haves?
