It’s basically playing two frames over and over and over, the stripes on the train lend themselves to the illusion of motion in both directions resulting from this repetition.
@thismyusername Is this like bending over a baseball bat and spinning around and then trying to run straight??? (Obviously, I am not watching the clip!!!)
I hate to say this but the train thing is a fake. Someone reversed the image. I can not remember where I read it but I believe they had proof. By using the youtube pause button you can see the video is reversed.
That was fun, but here’s something more substantial. I highly recommend Silva and Shots of Awe, if you’re not already following and subscribed.
We as a society waste our time quibbling over beans, but we live at the threshold of this ontological revolution. If only we’d stop fighting diversity, fighting technology, fighting progress–and embrace our human potential.

Stare at the center dot for a bit then look around the room… WARNING you might wanna be sitting down first.

@mikibell more like visual twisting, think of it as optical hallucination.
@thismyusername tomorrow, i will watch this… I will do it while at work, so the clean up will be someone else’s problem ;l
@thismyusername Augh! The TV is melting and warping and the chair ate the cat!
@thismyusername Nice. Who needs drugs? (No, that wasn’t an “I’m going to my dealer. Anyone want me to pick something up?”)
@mikibell I’m guessing you’ve never seen (or only saw once) an IMAX film in the full-size theatre?
@dashcloud twice…and the last time it was cliffhanger with silvester stalone…still makes me queasy to think about it
3d movies challenge my head greatly too …
@metaphore that doesn’t hurt my head so much…until the middle lady started turning opposite the other two…oy…

National Geographic Brain Games you can play.
For the Netflixers, look for the TV series called Brain Games. Our brains are peculiar critters.
@rockblossom Oh that reminds me… I should answer idiotest to @mfladd’s question about guilty pleasures!!
@mikibell
What’s there to feel guilty about regarding Idiotest?
@FroodyFrog it is such a nonsense show… I love it!!
@mikibell
I wasn’t happy when they changed the final round format. Thankfully they quickly reverted.
@rockblossom I just learned that Jason Silva is involved in Brain Games. Now I need to go watch it.
