Thinking about building your own? Affordable TX/RX combo...
0This is definitely not a top of the line radio, but if you feel like wetting your beak with a self-built multirotor, it's a complete radio system for a reasonable price. This would be suitable for a park flyer or a little indoor micro. Not a long range radio. $52 with free shipping.

@nltownsend843 edit bah nm 5.8ghz. This would only help me if i bought that walkera on groupon which i am very tempted by.

@djslack
I was about to ask with yours being 5.8
@nltownsend843 You're talking about a VTX/VRX? Or controller TX and RX?

This is the one I'm using most right now; it came with one receiver. It's not super long range, but the receivers are http://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Newest-Model-Channel-System/dp/B00DAPF5WU/ref=pd_sbs_201_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=09AMYZPAN47R7R1XQP0P
It's available on eBay for ~$40
@fultonmartin I found it for $53 from a US seller. Definitely a better option than the FS I posted. It's a bit more powerful and has a better antenna system. I also like the location of the switches better: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151694574200
@ruouttaurmind In the ebay pic in your link what is that jumper wire with the connector for? I keep seeing that and I know i didn't get it with my receiver (rx705).
@garyhgaryh That's a binding plug. It truly is nothing more than a jumper. In a pinch you can grab the jumper off an old PC motherboard. Or scavenge the JST connectors and just short the two wires together.
@garyhgaryh Dang it... I hit return before I was ready... The binding plug puts your RX into a programming mode and is used to establish coms between the TX and RX. Once the two are chatting you remove the binding plug and cycle power. Now that RX will only receive commands from that TX.
@ruouttaurmind Thanks! I need to make one!
IIRC, every receiver I've bought comes with one. I thought I'd only need to do it once, but yesterday the quad I was trying to fly lost its 'bind' so I had to do it again.
