Pissed off a MAGA Cult member, he made a comment about my Mom, I let him have, I mean double barrel, he must have got his feelings hurt , he blocked me Just don’t make comments about a person s MOM. BTW mine passed about 2 months ago. So it is not just me & the cat.
@shahnm The topic is “things I did today”, and the commenter pissed off somebody online, who then made aspersions about his Mom, who just died recently, so the commenter lit into him - and the pissed-off person took offense and blocked him. Also, I think that was supposed to be “now just me and the cat” at the end there.
@werehatrack I have no idea who “the commenter” is, unless you mean me, in which case I’m even more confused. There is nothing political, inflammatory, insulting, or in any way personal about anyone’s mom in that video. I certainly did not ever attack mycya4me or mycya4me’s mom!!!
@shahnm The commenter is the person who wrote that comment. You would be the OP (Original Poster) since you started the topic. The commenter was not commenting on your video, but rather on what they, the commenter, had done earlier today.
@mycya4me
My parents died 2004/2008. The sense of loss has greatly diminished over the years, though i still think of them quite often. Of their ten siblings, only one is left alive. He is more than a four hour drive away. Not that close with any of my cousins, as we grew up much distance apart.
My wife passed from Alzheimer’s just over two months ago, and that definitely gave me mixed feelings (she was bad off physically by then also). Missing her, though she lived apart in memory care for more than five years.
She and i were each an “only child”, so no family connections from that.
My son lives within a 15-minute drive, but he focuses on his financee (not a typo) and her family. Might see him every week or two.
Mainly “just me and my dog” (inside; more than a dozen “community cats” on my back deck).
Take heart. it happens to a lot of us. Other social outlets, such as Meh, will help you keep your sanity. Just don’t take any of them too seriously.
@shahnm I was on Twitter, I do have a Thick skin! I love triggering MAGA Folks on Twitter, His response was about my Mom. Like I said I was NOT nice! I guess he got his feeling hurt!
@shahnm@werehatrack That is what I did on that day! It was on Twitter! NOT Meh… People here are way too kool! they would NEVER do something like that. That is the reason I LOVE this entire Forum!
@phendrick You see my Dad passed back in May 2016. Mom & Dad had been married for over 60 years! They are both country folks. As of a few years ago ALL of my Dads family is gone.
My Mom was the last of her family. She developed a form of Dementia. I became her caregiver. She stayed at home as long as she could. She just passed July 10th. As far as being alone, My sister & her two kids over the last 10 years have been acting like a North end of a mule, walking south. So They have nothing to do with me, that is ok!
I do have a Lot of friends, My Photo group, Ham Radio group, SciFi family & a few others. Getting on twitter helps me with being upset at my sister, I take it out on them. BTW I highly doubt the Person that made comments about my Mom knew she had passed.
@mycya4me Ham Radio. is that still a big thing? don’t hear much about it nowadays, even during regional emergencies. i was somewhat involved with it decades ago as a MARS operator in the USAF. Even regularly read CQ! Thought about getting a license, but couldn’t find enough time and motivation to learn the Morse required for it.
@phendrick Oh yes it is Big. In fact during weather emergencies you have SkyWarn, that is a Buch of Hams that are Reporting the weather, Directly too NWS. Yes they are Trained weather spotter. Plus when a lot of normal, regular comms are down. Hams are there to rely messages, They have become an important part of emergency service.
BTW Knowing morse is NO longer required to get your license! You can use ORZ dot com to study for your test. You should wiz through the Tech & most likely General. The 3rd & final is Extra class.
Just also Check ARRL & CQ .
I figured that anyway, since my leanings are not in your triggeree’s direction. Plus, I don’t do Xitter. And I can ignore a lot of stuff. I very much doubt that you are leftier than me. That would be quite an accomplishment!
@shahnm So tell us what did your batteries do today?
The video was entertaining. Wondering how much of it was AI and not real, although people can do some really impressive things, sometimes by accident. Wonder how many humans were killed, vehicles crashed, etc. in the making of that video.
@mycya4me it’s interesting how political media has changed. MAGA people always embraced the attack ads especially about women, finding the most angry or scary picture on a single frame and using it in ads. The whole “when they go low we go high” thing clearly had not been working. Now there is a MAGA guy running for a contested House seat; he was already defeated last time Trump hand-picked him but he’s trying again. The latest local TV ads have a carefully-chosen picture of this guy and doesn’t look to different from that AI image. The ads feature people saying I’ve usually voted Republican but will never vote for X_X. And then say X_X is an angry, hateful man. It’s an old playbook but it works. Also yes he is creepy AF.
The Democratic Party lady (now incumbent) appealed to moderates by cutting firewood on her multi-acre property with a chainsaw, and supporting (reasonable) gun rights.
@mediocrebot Finding it creepy that Ai bots seem to be acquiring an “understanding” of human emotions.
By the time they are overtly running things, they will be able to tell by just facial expressions when humans are plotting the counter-coup.
Also, have not heard anything of late about the “3 laws of robotics” being infused in these recent “intelligences”.
@phendrick Possibly a good thing. Remember that Asimov later added the Zeroth Law: A robot shall not harm humanity, or allow humanity to come to harm through inaction. Since the Zeroth Law outweighs the others, it essentially says that a robot MAY harm a person/persons if it is necessary for “the greater good” of Humanity. (In the Robot/Foundation series, the galaxy is ultimately run by an android robot.) That gets problematic when you try to define what “the greater good of humanity” really means.
@mycya4me@pmarin I’ve seen the ads for the lady candidate you mention and they are compelling. If I was in her state/district and her past performance in office was as moderate as the ads portray, I would consider voting for her (BTW, I’m not affiliated with a party - registered independent).
@rockblossom That zeroth law must have been after my time with Asimov, probably mostly as a high-schooler. Read the original three Foundation stories, later found there were more added later, never made the time to catch up on those.
Wonder if he would now reformulate his laws. Too bad he died before Ai got anywhere near what it is today.
@macromeh, Lucky my state don’t require that you register a party. If i did I also would be independent.
personally She is not my 1st choice. is the Very poor performance of the Ex prez (while in office, International reaction to him the tall tales he has told. Which has me voyouknow themting for her. Of course there is a lot other stuff. BUT this forum is not for that!
One thing I want to get across, Never speak about a person’s Mom or Dad or that matter unless know them personally!
@macromeh@mycya4me Interestingly, although Texas does not do formal party affiliation outside of tracking which side’s primary you voted in when determining eligibility to vote in the runoff, my county allows election judges to declare “unaffiliated” and sets that as the default when we accept our appointments. I left myself unaffiliated when I confirmed this time. That leaves the Clerk’s staff more room in selecting an Alternate for my location. (If they don’t have enough, I have two capable clerks I can elevate into the slot at need.) Ordinarily, as per the State rules, the Clerk is supposed to provide one judge from each of the two major parties per voting location - but when they don’t have enough, they can pair two D or R judges. Any U judges can be paired either way. Since I leave my party affiliation at home on election day, I don’t care who a voter wants to support as long as they effing show up! And to their credit, the R judges I’ve worked with have had the exact same attitude. (So have the D judges, for that matter.)
@macromeh@werehatrack Thank You for that bit of info! I will be working the Polls in my County/ State. I am officially “unaffiliated” Yes I leave that at home also.
I have been able to blend in with SciFi Geeks, Talk Shop with People in the Computer field. GO head to Head with Biblical scholars (although all my Studies are not through a Collage)
I am willing to admit that I don’t know something or that subject I am weak in.
I do want people to vote (of course I would rather them vote my way) But it is important that they Vote.
WOW that video. I wonder how many times those guys failed before getting it right? They’re all monomaniacal but - what amazing strength, skill and creative thinking!
Let see, took about an hour and half to get out of bed (bad anxiety) watched tv, watched tv some more and now I’m attempting to take a shower for the first time in days. But every time I go to get in my anxiety kicks up so bad I have to sit down and watch some more tv till I feel ok. Just have zero motivation for anything and lots of anxiety stoping me from doing anything.
Been processing pears for the last 2 days, as well as making smoked cream cheese and some chipotles. Currently have over 20 lb of pears cooking down to pear butter and pear sauce. Taste remarkably like apple butter and applesauce.
Still have a metric shit-ton of them on the tree which I will address in a couple of weeks after I get back from a cruise with the grandkids. May make some pear liqueur again this year, as well as some spiced pears and just water packed ones to enjoy for the rest of the year.
@chienfou Just a thought:
Seems a lot of food oversupplies end up on Meh.
(But don’t wait until week before the “Best By” date.)
Little bottles seem to sell best.
Be sure to emphasize “Gluten free” and put “Power” in the name.

@mycya4me What?? (really sorry for your loss, but I don’t understand your comment).

@werehatrack So what on earth does the commenter’s comment have to do with this post?!?
@werehatrack Oh wait - mycya4me is just answering my question: “How was your day?”
Got it.
Carry on. Nothing to see here…
@mycya4me

@shahnm @werehatrack I also posted a show me at the bottom… NOPE that is personally not me, but that is how I felt!
@mycya4me It sounds like you’re already doing it, but I hope you find peace.
@mycya4me Ham Radio. is that still a big thing? don’t hear much about it nowadays, even during regional emergencies. i was somewhat involved with it decades ago as a MARS operator in the USAF. Things i did today:
Not much; signed in to Meh, then posted useless comments. Yet to spend any money. Yay.
@shahwnm
Loved that video. You’ve been a busy guy today. (Or, yesterday.)
@phendrick @shahnm OMG!!! THEY KILLED SHAHWNM!!!
@phendrick @shahnm @yakkoTDI
Well, I personally killed Kenny!
After all, his batteries were not in the fridge.
Did he even deserve to live? I ask you!
@f00l @phendrick @yakkoTDI Under the circumstances, I’ll allow it.
Compared to that video… absolutely nothing!
(But that kept me out of the ER as a patient!)
@shahnm So tell us what did your batteries do today?

@Kidsandliz I guess I’m naïve, it never occurred to me that any of it was AI.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh I’d say they are all real.
@blaineg @Kidsandliz I’d say I agree. There are always plenty of crazy young guys vying for the Darwin Award.
/showme a person that is pissed at some on the Computer

@pmarin I agree with you. MAGA has only Fear to run on. Although I would rather have another choice on the Dem aid (Not Biden either)

@Star2236
Sorry to hear that. Hope you are doing better today
@chienfou
Thanks, everyday is a struggle
@Star2236 I share memes because it’s easier than making my own words as memorable. So here is one, with maybe the wrong emotion/situation:
Or maybe this one is closer:
Sorry, I haven’t collected many that are specifically anxiety-related, because that one doesn’t afflict me as much as other things do.
@xobzoo
The second one is a little closer. Thanks.
I believe you.
@blaineg Why would I lie?
Things I did (yesterday now):
You know, the usual. Except the soup, that was new.
@PooltoyWolf
Well, I should hope so. Used soup is just wrong. Or did you mean you hadn’t tried it before? If so, congrats.
@werehatrack Hahaha yes, I hadn’t tried chicken orzo soup before.
It’s this person sprinkling time in his burner soup? (With their third arm)
@pakopako Very useful to have a third arm whilst cooking. Although in the next shoot he only seems to have 1 1/2.
@Kyeh @pakopako And yet he’s still sporting that Valium grin. What a trooper!
@Kyeh
Evidently he needs to hone his knife handling skills!
