Let’s kick this off with some movie rent or buy deals.
Now through Monday, June 3rd, nearly every streaming site which offers rentals and movies for purchase is participating in Ultimate Movie Weekend with discounted rental and digital movie purchase prices. The best I’ve found is Microsoft, with rentals from $1 and purchases from $4.
@communist I see these make FP on SD all the time at this price and I just don’t get it. My local supermarket has them for $2.50/bag every day and sometimes as little as $1.50 on sale. I must live in an anomalous market region or something. What do these normally sell for around the rest of the country?
@RiotDemon It came late Friday afternoon. The original delivery said it would be on Tuesday, but they came on Saturday and I wasn’t home. And then for the rest of the week, the delivery schedule said that I wasn’t home or that my business was closed. Nope, not true. I was home at the time that the so called delivery attempts were made.
Talking to FedEx did no good, obviously. They finally said that they would send someone out with it on Thursday, after they didn’t show. Well, they didn’t show again that day.
The wine, which had no cooling paks to begin with, was hot. Temps in the high 80’s will do that. I’m not drinking it.
It has been my experience, the past couple of years, that they will basically do anything to keep from having to deliver to your home. They really want you to go pick it up from some “convenient” location, even though you’ve paid extra for delivery to your home. I’ve had things more or less held hostage for days with no one really able to pin down the location of the package. I believe they really want to be a transport service rather than a delivery service.
@cinoclav Just curious… have you tried the “kid proof” ear buds? There are some with like kevlar reinforced cords and connectors and such.
My ex’s kids would go through headphones and earbuds in a day or two. I finally stopped buying them. But I never shelled out for the super-strength ones. I always wondered if they actually are more durable.
@therealjrn They did a similar offer a couple years ago, but the cap was $150 max discount. I bought a GM Perf. crate motor (already on sale) for the roadster project for under a grand and free ship, no sales tax.
Of course the motor still sits patiently in it’s crate in the corner of the garage, awaiting a day when my motivation catches up to my plans.
I ignored the failed fuel pump in my Blazer for months before finally getting motivated. Timing was perfect because 6 weeks later a CV joint went out in the Impala. So now I get to ignore that repair because the Blazer is running fine.
@blaineg@ruouttaurmind I dunno… It always seems to me that when one car breaks – and you don’t fix it – the backup car also breaks shortly after. Unless you have a second backup. In that case, you find that the third car was broken the whole time, you just didn’t know until you needed it.
@blaineg@walarney That would be where the Jeep comes into play. I have a S10 Blazer, my Impala, and a Jeep Wrangler. I don’t care for the Jeep much. It’s uncomfortable, it rides like a dump truck, and it gets horrible mileage. I mostly keep it around as insurance against the other two breaking down at the same time. The Fates are thinking
“no sense in breaking that Blazer right now because he always has the Jeep as a fallback plan”. I drive the Jeep at around the block or to the market at least once every weekend.
Ya, I don’t know. Whatevs. Just go here and save 25% off select used Amazon devices from Warehouse Deals, plus an additional 10% for Prime members, expires today, June 5th at midnight PT. I think. Maybe.
Or something. I don’t know. Clicky linky, buy something. Chances are it’ll be a few bucks less than it was a few days ago. And even more few bucks less if you’re a Prime subscriber. Ya. Ok, sure. Like that.
@Barney I’m not sure if the fish speaks with Amazon directly, or requires an app on your phone, or an AUX connection to your Echo device. Since I divorced Alexa I’ve abandoned all Alexa related technology.
@ruouttaurmind FUCK. I bought the Ring Doorbell in GOOD condition for $34. I have the whole Ring security system I haven’t installed yet - so why shouldn’t this sit next to it on the floor?
Damn you, I shouldn’t be buying anything since I just bought a used car to replace my Peashooter (lemon) for towing duties. I wasn’t throwing one more dime into her. Time will tell if this is a lemon too - ugh. I already have minor things I need to do to it being used.
@mfladd I want a NEW, new car, but I’m smart enough not to get one. However my old van, much like your old vehicle, is slowing falling apart. And it’s trying to find more and more unique ways to cause me grief.
I only hope that the double sided tape that I’m using on the bottom of the windshield trim, holds until I get to the repair ship.
@ruouttaurmind Even better is the fact I bought it in “good” condition, not “very good” like I posted. I almost wonder sometimes in a case like this that they don’t have said used item and just replace it with a new one. This was absolutely new.
@RedOak@sammydog01 Divorced Alexa. I found her to be… well, high maintenance and inconsistent. I asked her once “Alexa, what’s wrong?” When she responded “Well if you don’t know I’m sure not going to tell you!” I knew for sure it was over between us.
I recently started a relationship with a Google device. Google isn’t exactly the name I want to mutter all day long, but when I discovered she responds to “Hey Goo” I decided at least it was amusing. Sometimes I’ll forget myself and call her Siri or Alexa. Major relationship faux pas.
@mike808 The Bughatti is one of those kits, much like the Porsche GT3, that never seems to go on any kind of decent sale anywhere. And when it does, it sells out swiftly. So saving 20% is somewhat uncommon.
I’m not that impressed with this particular Porsche, the 911 RSR. Not detailed enough to justify the price I think. For the same money I’d probably opt for the James Bond Aston or the Mustang fastback. Or for less money, the VW T1 Camper or the Beetle.
The new Scribe Duo is an HDHomeRun device with a hard drive and DVR software built in. In the past you needed multiple devices to use the DVR feature with an HDHomeRun now you can get an HDHomeRun DVR all from a single device.
Now you can pre-order the HDHomeRun Scribe Duo from Best Buy. Starting at a retail price of $199 that comes with a 1 TB hard drive that will allow you to record up to 150 hours of HDTV. You will also get a free year of HDHomeRun DVR service a $35 value. (You can also get a four tuner version for $249.99.) The new HDHomeRun Scribe will start shipping in early July.
@mike808 That’s unfortunate. In a previous thread you mentioned Roku support was in the pipeline. I thought maybe this new product would implement that. Now you’re saying it’s not coming at all? Too bad. I really don’t want to mess around with Plex/PlayOn for this capability. I guess maybe Kodi on my RasPi is always an option. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@mike808 It is still not fully supported. Yes, it’s possible to use a bodged-up procedure to play video on select Roku devices, but it has limited capability and the interface is clunky and inelegant. Absolutely no different than it’s been for almost two years.

We are in the process of submitting a Roku app with support for Live TV from ATSC.
The app requires a Roku TV or a Roku Ultra connected to a TV / home theater system with AC3 support via HDMI. Most TVs other than Samsung support AC3 via HDMI.
So it could be very soon now.
You can check the SD forums and search for Roku.
However, it is the Roku devices themselves that cannot decode an MPEG2 stream (which is what ATSC HDTV is), so there will never be “full” Roku device support for any legacy Roku devices. Again, bitch at Roku for cheaping out and buck up and buy a new generation Roku device that can. There is nothing SD can do to upgrade or make shitty Roku hardware/software license fails to work with these excellent devices.
From another post:
Most Roku devices do not support MPEG2 so there is no nice way to watch Live OTA TV on a Roku. SD does not have an app for Roku. If it’s a Roku TV I believe there is a clunky way to do it using DLNA, but that provides no guide.
Stop buying a Vespa and complaining that you can’t haul your boat to the lake with it.
@mike808 Thank you for the post. I have a 2018 Ultra (should work fine) and a 2019 Streaming Stick (I’ve read mixed online reports on this one).
I’ll just have to put on my “wait and see” face for now. I’m moving my mother across the country in early July. She’ll be staying in her RV in my back yard until we find her a house she’s satisfied with. I was hoping SD via a Roku would be a convenient way to get live local TV into the RV without having to run cables or purchase new hardware I won’t have a use for after she’s in her own place.
I’ll likely pick up YouTube TV while she’s at my place and put the Roku Streaming Stick on her TV. Easiest way to get live and local TV into the RV.
Announcing the HDHomeRun OTA Live Channel for Roku!
We are excited to announce the first step in HDHomeRun support for Roku, the “HDHomeRun OTA Live” channel for Roku.
As you can probably guess from the title, this first app is dedicated to Over the Air Live TV viewing. Watch TV, check out the guide, change channels, do all the simple things you expect from a great Live TV app.
To use the HDHomeRun OTA Live TV channel, you will need a TV, AV receiver, or soundbar that supports Dolby Digital or AC3 sound. You also need a CONNECT or newer HDHomeRun device. And finally you will need a Roku that has been updated to Firmware 9.0.
For more information and instructions to install, please see the HDHomeRun OTA Live TV blogpost post.
And if you’d like to report your experience, ask questions, and talk about the new release, please visit our Roku forum thread.

@llangley I actually bought one of the Ginormous Unicorn Sprinklers from Target when they were brand new a year or so ago because of course I did. I haven’t had any trouble from mine, but apparently the negative curve of the neck seam is rather weak and prone to blowing out. He could also really use some tie-down loops on his hooves, because even a brisk breeze will knock him off his feet! But he is cute and huggable. $30 is a good price for these!
@sammydog01 I built the little music box robot with the flowers and tarted it up with some Sharpie paint markers. It actually turned out not too bad. Sent it to Mom for her birthday and 4got to snap a pic. The Sharpie markers were really easy to use, but took a couple coats because the wood soaked up the paint. But it snazzed up the project nicely.

These arrive with a thick funk, you know the funk I’m talking about, that funky smell everyone talks about in their Amazon reviews. Except this funk was insane. I couldn’t bring them inside for days and days and days and after I did they still smelled nasty. Anyways, after having finally begun to use them, at first I was kinda like OK cool this is my new night life and I’m digging it, I’m totally comfortable and I feel bad for being so upset over the initial funk. But now a few weeks into these pillows and I can tell you A. The funk is still there just not as severe and B. These pillows have deflated to literally HALF their size. They are heavy, which is odd for me to complain about because I like heavy pillows, but these suckers are heavy without any added benefit of comfort at this point. They cant even be propped up after I’ve made the bed because they just fall over from being deflated and under filled. Would not recommend unless you want to buy them, wait a week and a half to use them for the smell to dissipate, have an amazing rest for a few weeks, and then regret everything about them once those few weeks are over. I got catfished with these pillows. I saw one thing that of course reeled me in and then received something totally different and unappealing in the end.
Update: The cover was initially very soft, but that too stopped working just like the pillow that whole “bait & switch” thing again I don’t use these as my main pillows, they sit in the way back so they don’t see any use really. So I was surprised to find a tear in the cover when I changed the pillowcase.
If this review has been helpful in any way please click the “helpful” thumbs up button. I take time to write honest real reviews and enjoy knowing I’ve helped others in coming to a decision.
@Barney@Ignorant I got my pillows and tried them out today. That @AleashaMatthews is SO full of shit. She probably didn’t order these pillows because they definitely don’t stink. They came compressed and flat, which is different from the usual compressed and rolled-up packaging but they fluffed up nicely. I don’t remember specifying, but they sent me king size, which is fine but they really are BIG. Very happy! Thanks for the heads-up @sammydog01!
@Barney@Ignorant@sammydog01 Reviewers like @AleashaMatthews that beg for likes turn me off anyway. If what you are saying is helpful, the likes will come naturally, right @AleashaMatthews? @Amazon has taken away their “dislike” or “unhelpful” button otherwise I’d go over there and really mash down on that button really really hard!
@ruouttaurmind I bought one of the $50 gen 1 Shows for my nightstand (I had a coupon). The main advantage it has over the Lenovo one is that you can turn the adaptive brighness off.
I was working on twerkbot and watching a video the other day and took a break. I turned the light off so I could see the video better and it went dark- I had to turn the room light on to see it. That pissed me off.
If the time numbers were a bit bigger the Show would be perfect. I bet the clock on the Spot is too small for a lot of people over 40 to read.
IS THINKGEEK SHUTTING DOWN?
Nope. On July 2nd, 2019, ThinkGeek.com will be moving in with our parent company GameStop. After this move, you will be able to shop a curated selection of unique items historically found on ThinkGeek.com via a ThinkGeek section at GameStop
Also, Microsoft’s running a special on their Ultimate Gamepass- you can try it for a month for $1, and more importantly, they’ll credit any months you have left for Gold and/or regular Gamepass 1:1 (ex: if you just bought a 12 month Gold, you’ll get those 12 months for Ultimate Gamepass).
@sammydog01 It looks like a good price compared to the other wifi enabled alternatives, but it will get stuck a lot. I got one in the last IRK and if I don’t lock it in the bedroom and close the bathroom door, I will inevitably come home to find it stuck somewhere. If it’s not wedged under something or not being able to get out of a tight spot because of the square shape, then it’s getting caught on the corner of the rug and think it’s falling. My Roomba and other round shaped knockoff don’t have this problem.
A couple of good things about the Deebot is the low noise and decent battery life. The logs show it gets about 1:45 per charge on my tile floors with a single small rug and it doesn’t make near as much racket as the Roomba.
@tinamarie1974 It seems off to me. They take a vintage style design, complete with genuine simulated pre-worn printing, then print it on a bright blue shirt? I wish woot would add a couple color variations to include faded colors for these kinds of designs.
@therealjrn actually none of them. I was initially excited when I saw a deal for landscape lighting, as I need a LOT of them for all my flower beds. When I clicked on the site and saw the offering I was underwhelmed.
