It was only earlier this year I realized you could have multiple key rings and only take the ones you really needed. That’s a lot of years of carrying around keys I never used. Where was this write-up when I was 20?
I carry my keys, keys to my mom’s house (other side of the country), and keys to my best friend’s house (different country). If there’s an emergency call and I need to head directly to an airport to head to either location, I have everything on me and ready.
It might pay you in the long run to get them locks with electronic keypads this Christmas. You could always keep the combination for them in case they forget.
My house, parents house, new house we just bought (there are freaking five!!!), mailbox, car, truck, office door, other office door, outside office bldg door, classroom, storage room, and desk drawer. The college where I work has a different lock for every door and closure it’s insane. My husband has at least ten keys for work alone.
Am I nuts to carry two keychains - one for personal stuff (house, mail, car) and one for work stuff (drawer lock, access badges)? I feel very strongly about the separation of church (aka house) and state (aka work). Or vice versa. Never can tell which should be church and state really. TMI?
@olperfesser I still prefer a key for the car; fob is ok for locks and such. My wife’s recent car is a fob only; she’s always digging for her keys to unlock the house door now because they’re not in her hands from the car…
I carry quite a few but on 2 key chains and I need them but not for work. I live very rural. Almost everywhere I go is at least an hour drive away. I’m gone for pretty good lengths of time. I never know when I will need the keys to either of my daughter’s house while I’m out, one of my sisters, my parents, my church. Then there are my various house keys, vehicle keys, etc. I try to carry just the ones I know I’ll need regularly on one key chain/fob and the others I keep on another key chain/fob in the console in my car. I have needed all of them at various times and don’t trust being without them.
My ex carried a LOT of keys on his chain (before the fobs we have now…early 90s)… he had a really nice Firebird Formula… he ended up ruining the ignition and having to have it replaced because of all the keys hanging off the ignition he was told.
I have 2 sets of keys, Office which has office, bathroom, house and mailbox and Home which has car, house and mailbox. I don’t need a giant car key on an average business day so it’s nice not to have to carry it around. Other assorted keys I use don’t need to be carried around all the time.
Because refrigerators. And batteries.
That sort of thing.
House key and car key. Any other keys are in one of two locations within the house, depending on how safe we want them/how often we use them.
I carry two keys. Soon to be three.
@JoetatoChip Your keys have been naughty…
I have one key for my car, one for spouse car. House has number keypad.
@katbyter Same here.
No house key needed anymore. 2 cars, one farm truck and one tractor. I grab the one vehicle key I need & that’s it.

Just an idea.
5 keys all used daily… (Apartment gate key, apartment door key, mailbox key, bike key, work key.)

@hac I do the same.
I carry one key - house. One fob for the car.

@lseeber oh yeah. I forgot I also have a key to the church. And next time we go to.the hardware store, I’m getting a key to the fire station too lol
@ivannabc haha. Which reminds me I still have the bldg keys where I worked 15 yrs ago lol. I guess I can ditch them now.
I have a key for every door, and I have a lot of doors. Only the gate padlocks have a shared key.

I think I haven’t put an actual key into a keyhole since October.
@MrMark So how’s life on the inside? They let you have computer time I see. You need anybody to come put some money on your books?
@therealjrn
@MrMark will respond as soon as he earns enough credits to regain internet access.
Thank You,

Why does everyone carry so many keys when they could just carry one of these https://www.lockpickshop.com/KRONOS-ELECTRIC.html
@LordSalem $260? It does look handy!
For just $10 more, this would be less convenient to carry but more fun to use: http://blackhawk.com/products/entry-tools/tools/battering-rams/dynamic-entry-cqb-ram
@LordSalem Makes me glad I’m a gun owner.
I have to, for work
Peer presure.
