The only birthdate that you need to add a zero
11So today is my birthday, and as we’ve gotten farther into the computer age, I’ve noticed I now have to add a 0 when giving out my birthdate, at the beginning, or January turns into Dec. It’s 1-23, but if you don’t add the 0 at the beginning, in turns into 12-3. The pharmacy asked me so much if it was Dec 3, that I now add the 0. People always look at me funny when I say 0123. It’s weird.

I blame poor coding of the database on their end to be the culprit of all this.

And I understand - Back in the days when you had to order things by phone and give them your address verbally, I lived at 460 6th St., and would have to spend a lot of time tracking down deliveries that were trying to go to 4 66th St., which was humorous that in that little town the numbered streets only went up to 14.
I learned to say four-six-zero sixth street very slowly and carefully.
@stolicat I have a similar problem when giving my address verbally. My (rural) house number is 32222.
If I say 3-2-2-2-2 or 32-222, the person listening inevitably says “Whuh? How many 2’s was that?” So I finally settled on slowly saying 3-22-22. That seems to be most often correctly received/understood the first time.

Honestly all I can conclude from this is you have been entering dates wrong your entire life. And they are now forcing you to comply with the standard for the last several centuries. Where months are two digits. Just like days. Just like years. Just like centuries.
Your basic MM-DD-CCYY
I’ll admit I prefer CCYYMMDD:HH24MISS
But there are qualifiers for this in you basic X12/NCPDP.

I get what you’re saying, but I disagree. My sister’s birthday is April 12. She doesn’t say zero four twelve. She just says four twelve. I can’t say that with mine, because it turns into twelve three. Entering it myself in a computer is a different story.
@punkynpye @unksol My birthday is in the summer. If I am verbally saying, personally entering, or writing down my birthday, I always include a leading zero on the month. Fixed-width data removes ambiguity.
@punkynpye idk. if you said “one, twenty-three, nineteen eighty five” theres only one way to enter that. Logicaly. But they are going to be typing it into a computer. Maybe you encountered a dumbass?
If you are personally entering in a form. Leading zero expected. Especially without a delimiter.

@punkynpye also. Any spoken automated system. You should assume it’s dumb. The programer may not have accounted for human. Even though you could argue they should have. Anything fixed width you give each digit. Like a credit card expiration date. Yes they can cheat to help but. Really.
From that standard, the every date between January 11 and January 29 need a leading zero.
