The Best Burger?
4The product shot today got me thinking. What’s the best burger or burger joint you’ve experienced? One of mine was this past January in Tucson, AZ in a place called Lindy’s on 4th.
They have very irreverent names for their burgers and you almost feel like a jerk ordering them (and you can’t point; the waitress made us say it).
Before you is, and I kid you not, a Dirty Sanchez:
Double Patties, Diced Green Chilles, Jalapenos, Pepper Jack Cheese and Guacamole. It was amazing. Truly.

That bacon habanero burger from McDs was pretty good.
Edit: Angry Whopper is also decent.
@medz please don’t bring either of them into this conversation

There is a crappy hole-in-the-wall, dive-of-a-diner in Bristol,Virginia, called The Burger Bar. It’s allegedly the last place that Hank Williams, Sr was seen alive. They’ve got some super greasy delicious burgers that are out of this world. My favorite is called Your Cheatin’ Heart. Grilled Onions, Bacon and a myriad of cheeses served up on a fresh baked roll. It’s awesome.
The Voodoo Mushroom Burger from Grub
Absinthe sautéed mushrooms with swiss cheese, and Tabasco mayo. The best burger I’ve ever had.
The Charlie Burger with yak meat from Grubsteak
(that’s not it but it’s the best I can find)
Yak burger with sautéed mushrooms, bacon, Swiss cheese, and carmelized onions. The second best burger I’ve ever had. We ate there twice on our trip to Estes Park.
Those that know Philadelphia, probably know Village Whiskey. Prolly the best burgers in the city, AFAIK.
Served with duckfat fries. Mmmmmm.
Just to clarify, Village Whiskey is a Jose Garces restaurant. Yeah, the Iron Chef who is a mainstay in Philly with something like 1,327 restaurants now. And that particular picture is of the Whiskey King, their super special burger (with a super special price) that has foie gras on top. But you can get a poor man’s version too.
@cinoclav One of the best meals of my life was at Amada, José Garces’s tapas place. So, so good.
And the cubano at Garces Trading Company was both gigantic and on point.
@ACraigL Agreed! I was sad to see Borgata close, and Village Whiskey with it. Now I need to make a trip to Philly.
@salaosantiago you idiot, it was revel that closed. Roll up another one why don’t ya.
There’s fancy burgers, and all that stuff, and I can appreciate one when I eat it, but you know what’s a darn good burger? Shake Shack. They opened one up not far from where I live in Queens, and it’s a lovely treat. Especially their new Cheddar Bacon burger.
@sanspoint Agreed. The OP is a total dive. They just make freaking awesome burgers.
Texas Monthly mag covers this every few years. Their attitude is, they don’t have to cross state lines to get a universal answer to this sort of question.
Agree or not, they find good food. I’ll check for some article link laterz.
The Jacobson Burger at The Jacobson in KC
Topped with bone marrow butter, short-rib marmalade and crispy fried onion straws. 100% house made from locally sourced ingredients.
@MrsPavlov Bone marrow…mmmmm
Chaca Oaxaca @ Rodeo Goat in Ft Worth
beef & chorizo patty, avocado, pico de gallo, fried egg, & queso fresco. A little pricey, but worth it.
There are more than a few awesome burgers in the DFW metroplex.

@compunaut I was with you there, right up until the fried egg. On a burger, that’s a crime against nature.
I like em all. I’m very curious about the Impossible Burger and want to give it a try.

Impossible Foods

@Ignorant
@Ignorant - my mouth waters when I drive by a pasture full of cows, and not because I envy what they’re eating.
@MrsPavlov oh trust me mine too, but if that thing taste the same it’d be better for my health to go with that I’m sure. Plus I don’t think there’s and Impossible Steak yet so I’d still get my cow fix there.
But I can’t believe that thing would be too much like the real thing so I don’t think I’d stick with it after the first try.
@Ignorant hmmm. Looks interesting. I’m curious about this rollout to only one (soon two) exclusive place as well. Is it all to create marketing hype or is it super hard or expensive to make?
A place by us (Blazing Onion) has lots of different burgers, my favorite is the one I order at the moment. They also have endless fries (with skin) and a dozen microbrew beers on tap. I really like most all burgers.
ps… they also have a dozen TV’s mounted high with sports to watch.
One of the best I’ve ever had was the Lamb Burger from Gordon Ramsey Pub in Caesars Atlantic City. My wife brought it home to me in a doggy bag, but that damn thing was delicious.
Easter McDonalds Double Cheeseburger, vintage 2004
The Backstory: Easter brunch 2003, my aunt over-cooks the pork chops. A year later, the same aunt is hosting Easter brunch. My cousins and I decide to give her a hard time (those chops were tough!), and stop by McDonalds for a bag to act like we ate on the way. As it felt awkward to just get a bag, I busted out the $1.10 for a double cheeseburger.
I don’t know if they hadn’t pre-made any that morning due to Easter or not, but It was amazing. Greasy, yes. 100% questionably sourced beef product, and horrendous American cheese with the usually nasty little diced onions.
But it came together beautifully and piping hot, and was far and away the best thing I’ve ever had from McDonalds, and while not the best burger I’ve ever had, it was the one that most exceeded my burger expectations.
I have a hard time identifying the best burger in my town. Several “gourmet” burger places have popped up but none thoroughly impress me. There is a pretty solid place downtown called Fully Stacked. Their burgers are consistently good (including one with a good bit of bacon ground into the patties) but their service has been going downhill of late. They offer a challenge where the burger grows by one patty every time someone wins.
Here’s a video of my drunken friend attempting the challenge at thirteen patties during a pub crawl a couple of years ago:
That cost him $26 plus tip and (spoiler alert) he didn’t get to go home with any of it.
Grill 'Em All in Alhambra, CA. Pretty much anything but I especially like the Behemoth. It involves a griddled beef patty between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches
No In N Out mentioned yet?
I like a place here in Seattle that does a burger on a baguette. Its a nice change.
@metageist Schilo’s Deli has been in downtown San Antonio for almost 100 years. I love their fresh German specialties (brats & other sausage) and they make their own root beer. Their burgers are served on a long french roll. It’s 2 meals for many people.

There was a burger at the NCO club in NAS Millington: 1/2 pound of beef, swiss cheese, and a pile of grilled mushrooms and onions. You couldn’t eat it like a sandwich, however; it was way too sloppy. At this very moment, I’m frying up a patty and slice of bacon; will sautee the onions in the au-jus from the patty and top my toasted bun with some melted cheddar. I just found out today that I’m going to travel on Sunday to Denver; does anybody know of any good burgers that I must try?
@PocketBrain I can’t help you find a burger in Denver, but if you save room for dessert you can try this place - http://inventing-room.com/dessert-shop.
@PocketBrain Prohibition, 504 E Colfax Ave. Short-rib burger. Get it

Hole in the wall in Bishop,CA, called the Burger Barn. They have a Bison burger out of this world and shakes with all fresh locally sourced ingredients. The meat is locally sourced also.
@superfantabuls Thanks for the tip! We usually pass through Bishop on 395 at least once a year but never knew this place existed. The fact they also have a homemade veggie burger makes it a better fit for our group than most other burger places.

right now I am being satisfied by a bar called The Pour House in Boston, for some reason the dusty dive decor doesn’t make me sick while enjoying this tasty burger
Best burger is the home made burger. 1 lb 80% ground beef with 3 strips precooked bacon ground in. Form beef into 1-1/2" balls, drop onto very hot cast pan, smash it down very thin with preheated cast iron bacon press and let it burn. Check and turn after 90 seconds. Crispy and slightly burned at the rough edge; hot and slightly pink in the middle. Stack two or three of these God wafers on your favorite bread with a slathering of your favorite cheeses and accouterments. Voila! Burger Nirvana.

The 50 Best Burgers in Texas
According to Texas Monthly magazine
July 20, 2016
http://www.texasmonthly.com/food/50-greatest-burgers-texas/
Of course, the magazine believes that this is the same list as the 50 Greatest Burgers in the Universe.
Hmmmm.
Up here in Minneapolis-St. Paul we have a tradition of putting the cheese inside the burger. Apparently it’s our culinary “thing”. Two restaurants have been fighting about who did it first for years. While Blue Door Pub didn’t invent it, they have the BEST, hands-down. They’ve got several different ones with different fillings with a slot on the menu for whatever they cooks happen to come up with that month. A couple of my favorite have been the ‘Ballpark’ (think Chicago Dog in burger form) and ‘The Islander’: Muenster cheese, habanero garlic aioli, Jamaican style pulled pork, pepper jack, and pineapple mango salsa.
