The 90's Live!
9We already did the 80's: https://meh.com/forum/topics/the-80s-live
Time to pay tribute to the 90's. The emergence of Alternative Rock, Grunge, and a diversification of Hip Hop/Rap, and so much more. And let us not forget Contemporary Country. What songs do you remember? This is a safe place to post. Just post what you remembered most. No judgements here.
I'll start.....

@mfladd
Nice.
Not ashamed to say it...
I once got busy in Burger King bathroom!!!
@somf69 I am very impressed with Humpty coming out early...love it!
@mfladd Doesn't your humpty always end early, instead?
Yes! There's so much to choose from. I'll start with a little bit of something fun. ..
And a bit awesome
And show of hands, who got their sexy times on to a bit of Mazzy back then?
@jaremelz Mazzy is such sex music. Nuff said.
Bloodhound Gang...classic, and still on my playlist. Don't judge me people.
@mfladd Well, I can't very well judge, clearly i love it too! Ha, your Mazzy is mine!
@jaremelz BHG - They bleeped out the best part conerning x-files.
@mfladd Those bastards. Hey, I need to catch up on that, btw.
This was classic 90's
@mfladd For the Ez man, his favorite
@jaremelz Ez knows his stuff :)
@jaremelz I find this hilarious, and in a weird way, it kinda works (helps if you're high as fuck at a club [klub] in Warsaw the first time you hear it).
@Pavlov I am just exhausted enough that i love the shit out of it. Much rather be high as fuck!
@jaremelz Intergalucky : )
@Pavlov sex in space?
@jaremelz I'd be really worried about where the money shot might end up micro-gravity, so if you're down for a creampie . . .
Oh wait, that may not be what you meant.
My bad.
(Add it to the list of things I'm so going to hell for)
@Pavlov In space, nobody can hear you cream.
(Oh, and I LOVE Barbarella)
The 90's had varied faces...
@2many2no Big Brown Beaver can't be beat!
@jaremelz That's not what a big brown beaver is for at all.
@2many2no Oh my god...Cake!!!!!! My playlist. I have even more respect for you! (primus is also a plus). For anyone who doesn't know - Primus also does the South Park theme song.
@2many2no And also
Love, love, LOVE me some Garbage.
@jaremelz Garbage - yup. This whole CD is good.
@mfladd Can't argue with that. Even if it feels so wrong to say that to you.
@jaremelz Oh god, my husband STILL has a massive crush on Shirley Manson.
Sorry.
(man I had no idea how scandalous the lyrics were in elementary school)
To make up for that, a few more random songs (I'll call this "90's dorm room mix").
Classic RHCP:
Coolio:
This overplayed bit by Green Day:
Some gems from the DDR games:
@trisk I knew it wouldn't take long for Green Day, or Coolio, MP, so hot!
@thismyusername I can't tell you how happy you've made me!
The 90's were the last decade where i listened to fm/am radio much for music, except for classical and oldies.
The 90's where when i no longer had any desire, even a nostagic one, for certain ingestibles of my youth.
In the 90's i was foolishly caught in a mosh pit (X) and thought i might not live long enough to escape to the edge. Great concert, but i spent the rest of it hiding pressed against the club wall in some terror. Maybe that was the late 80's? Not sure.
90's. NIN.
90's. Fidonet. Mine had all the pgp stuff on it, i got connections from all over the world at night, system was only up at night. I miss Fidonet.
@f00l I'm not aware of any active Fidonet nodes anymore, not even in Russia, where they hung on for a long, long time. Fidonet brings back a lot of good BBS memories.
@Pavlov
I think some nodes are on the net? Isnt there a nodelist on the net?
One of my fido friends was at that time a teenage kid who worked after school to pay for his 14 fido phone lines. Because he had perfect grades, perfect manners, and did not drink, swear, drive fast, or do reckless things, his parents were content to allow him to run the universe from his bedroom. Because of the phone lines, the neighbors thought he was a drug czar or bookie.
I became lifelong friends w several fido people. Went bungee jumping with some of them. Still talk daily/monthly with several.
A few of these have those rare privileges where we get to call each other at 2am sometimes because some random thought hit.
@thismyusername and who could forget:
or:
or:
@earlyre Love Ben Folds Five.
Time for the British invasion...
@mfladd
( lower res, and wonky aspect, unfortunately the Official video is "not available in your country" )
@earlyre Last month when the cost of gas briefly dipped to $1.49 per gallon on a Saturday, I was driving in my car and thought, "what, is it 1996 again?" I had a college radio station on, and for some reason they played a Jamiroquai song, and I was like, "huh, it is 1996 again. Weird."
@mossygreen I had a similar though last week.
my debit card was compromised(bank caught it right away), card was cancelled, had to send a new one, etc. this was 2-3 days before my Verizon bill was set to autopay via that card.
I had to go to Verizon, IN PERSON, and pay with a FREAKING CHECK! what is this the 90's? I mean Really!
Before she went crazy with the scissors......
(hey, someone has to be THAT guy)
@mfladd But we don't have to star it . . .
@Pavlov LOL...no you don't! :) But that means I give you this...
@mfladd
@mfladd I didn't particularly like the song, but she was kind of the female ideal physically to most of us freshman boys.
...and if i don't stop myself, i'll be at this all day...
@earlyre trust me, I knew it was just a matter of time until you found this thread :)
@mfladd ...thanks, i think... I was all ready to Rickroll this thread, but then i saw that song came out in 87...dangit....
Gotta have me a little
Mixed in with my
Cake is my favorite band. I listen to Fashion Nugget all the time.
@katylava You've been all alone in your time of need?
@katylava
I'm the kind of geek, when listening to the muzak at work, my brain always goes to the Weird Al version(if it exists, like recently, both "My Sharona", and "I Love Rock n' Roll" have been in the rotation, and my brain always plays "My Balona", and "I Love Rocky Road")
Lately the Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive" has been in the rotation, and every time, my brain tries to replace it with cake's cover.
The 90's was also a great time for one hit wonders. Ranging from socially conscious to completely random and everything in between.
@LadyLeela Cantaloop is one of my all time favorites! That entire album was great. Thank you.
wait! how could i forget this:
Fuck the establishment!
A few people have brought some of the 90's pop, but there was just so much of it.
Here's some I still remember:
@dashcloud Haha! I was waiting for how long it would take for Aqua - Barbie Girl to show up....well done! Again, it is not important if people liked it. It's iconic to the 90's and something everybody remembers.
Time for the Hip Hop......
Non-pop songs I liked (that aren't here already):
And a couple from one of my favorite groups, No Doubt:
@dashcloud All good choices, but you are disqualified for a repeat with Chumbawamba. No Doubt should also include this...
@mfladd I blame @stardate820926 for the duplicate, and substitute this Chumbawumba video:
My flannel shirt still looks fly.
@connorbush
@brhfl Amazing album. Let's add my favorite.
@mfladd Isn't it, though? Let's get one more in here…
@brhfl Thank you! One of my favorite all time albums.
These all had there place in the 90's.......
@mfladd "their", before the GN's jump on me...you know who you are.
@mfladd Alanis only has her place at the bottom of a dumpster.
@jaremelz Isn't ironic that a song about irony has no irony?
Too many good things already
I could do 90s music forever...its basically my favorite. You could just include anything from Tool and I will love you :)
@metageist Nice find! Tool was so left out here.
@metageist My favorite music changes daily, but Sober and 46 & 2 are always on the list.
A little bit of.......is all I need.
@mfladd My 10th grade history teacher's brother or something worked for MP3.com or something like that and heard the song very early on and played it for our teacher. He played it for us and told us it would be a hit in 6 months or a year, something like that, and it turned out he was right, including the timetable.
Did I just miss it, or has nobody dropped in any Pumpkins yet?
@brhfl You maybe right. And that is just wrong. One more...
@mfladd
Two awesome 90s things combined into one:
how did no one post these yet? :
and no BNL yet? come on guys!
and if we can count 2000:
and finally, this little gem played at last call at far too many bars and clubs since '98.
Loser....
@mfladd Bonus Beck?
This thread officially breaks my phone, good work 90s!
Any of you creeps post this one yet?
@brhfl Ya, these video threads are killers for loading. Creep, on my MTV Buzz Bin CD, here is another on it.
And how do we not have the Cranberries yet?
@mfladd DAMNIT! How was I not the one to bring the 'berries into this? True story: I made my best friend a mixCD simply titled 'Holy fuck it's the 90s' and every other song was 'Zombie'.
My favorite (read: most pained)…
a few more i've been meaning to put here, at least some of which I'm REALLY surprised haven't surfaced yet.:
and really, I must stop now. or i will really be here forever.
when i load this thread in chrome on my phone, literally minutes to load. same with Firefox on my desktop. Chrome on desktop? loads immediately.
like boom.
oi.
@earlyre Nice selection. I wondered why Bittersweet Symphony took so long. The fact that Fiona is this far down is criminal. When @jaremelz and I played this 90's game on slack it was one of the first to come out.
@mfladd She's almost always first to come. Right behind Mazzy!
@earlyre I just got a chance to watch many of these. Veruca Salt!!!!!
This really has become a loading nightmare, so if this was posted already, I don't apologize. It's good enough to repeat.
In honor of the March goat @stardate820926. How did we forget this SNL favorite?
Ha! Got topic to load!
After 2 days of FAIL (chrome, Note 4), set theme to light (seems to load better), set pagination to 1 comment plus replies per page. This actually makes reading other threads kinda novelty fun too.
2 comments plus replies per page seemed to f me up good. So gonna stay w these settings for a bit and catch up on bad videos. And mebbe good ones too.
Topic better not make me get the laptop off the floor 2-1/2 feet away, my pillows are stacked just right and dont wanna be disturbed. Besides, that would involve reaching for something, i dont wanna reach for anything that isnt imprinted with the word "oreo".
Fuck effort. Want videos!
@f00l LOL...sorry it took me this long to star you - I am afraid to even open this thread anymore :) It's slooooow to open. Slow to me means anything that is not instantaneous. @brhfl already posted this thread broke his phone :-)
@mfladd
Calling @shawn or whoever. Can someone fix the forums so that on paginated forum views, the page control bar at the bottom loads before the images and videos???
Often the page crashes before all the vid links finish, which means i can never get to the newer posts.
Pls pls pls? This is kinda a big deal.
@f00l I broke Meh? - YES!!!!!!!!!
p.s. - I also just crashed my browser :)
@mfladd More RAM! (Also, blame the goat @stardate820926 for your lack of patience- you just need to wait a couple of minutes for the thread to load- load up some other forum threads in the background, and read those first- this one will then be ready for you.)
@dashcloud I have 12 GB of RAM connected to dual quad-core Xeons (admittedly from 2009) and this page slows everything to a crawl.
So does this mean the 90s are dead again?
(Allow me to contribute to this RAM destroying thread)
I might not have discovered this album until 2000/2001, but that's around the time I started discovering Electronica, and Moby and his 1999 release Play become some of my all-time favorites. "Porcelain" was my favorite song from the album, but I loved pretty much all of it:
Porcelain
South Side feat. Gwen Stefani
Honey
Run On
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?
Natural Blues
Bodyrock
(^^that guy won this audition, only to have the auditions themselves become the official video in the US, because they're amazing:)
As one more bonus, here's Olav Basoski's Da Hot Funk Da Freak Funk Remix:
Flower (from the B-sides, was popularly used in Gone In 60 Seconds)
Everloving (this was probably my second favorite on the album)
@jqubed Ha! I wondered when you were going to show up. Thanks for adding to the destruction :)
@mfladd I'm on my phone, like, 95% of the time here, so I saw the all the videos starting to load and was like, "NOPE!"
The Adventures of Pete & Pete
