Doesn't fit in my small browser windows very well, things starting to look kinda cramped down there. And, will this change very much, day-to-day? Like… it's interesting once, right now, but will it continue to be interesting? Or will it just be kinja every day? Stats are cool, not sure if this one really fits, but whatever/meh/do what makes you happy!
@snapster No, I get that, I just wondered if that trend really fluctuated that much, or if certain sites just have more users, pay more attention to meh, whatever… thus, how much would it actually change day-to-day.
@cengland0 I've noticed mehstalker.com show up from time to time during internal testing, but pretty rare it's in the top results. We can't show them all because there's hundreds, so we limit to top 10.
@shawn One more question. I frequently click on links from my email to get to meh forums when someone mentions my name. Are you excluding those too? Does this only count links to the home page or deep linking too?
@cengland0 The traffic to mehstalker is minimal compared to sites like slickdeals that have millions of users. Mehstalker (currently) is more used by people looking at historical information. On a typical day, I'd expect more traffic from wootstalker to meh, then from mehstalker to meh.
@lichme@shawn FYI, I see that mehstalker was listed for 4/23 and 4/24 (today). I wonder if the mention of it here in the forums caused people to take a look at that site.
@dashcloud I am a curious person who does not care about this particular thing… beyond seeing it documented once. And perhaps sometime in the future if it changes radically. Beyond that it is just noise.
@Kidsandliz The great thing about it is that it's there for those of us who do want to see it and it can be ignored by those who don't. Just because you don't want to see it doesn't mean it doesn't have merit, nor should it be discontinued just because a few/most people aren't interested.
@Kidsandliz@mikey you care because if you see something crappy selling well you can see if it's being led by a new source. ideally if would also be more clear that clicking through does not take you just to site but to page/entry/post linking to us
What say Saturday everyone pop over to Pornhub.com just before checking Saturday's offering. Then @snapster, @shawn, @harrison, would have to spend hours and hours searching that site to figure out why.
@Mehrocco_Mole@PurplePawprints it really doesn't work that way. It's not the last website you were on before accessing meh. When you click on a link, the browser will send a request to the server for the page you just clicked on. Inside that request, there is a header that is sent to the server that contains information from the site that had the link. The header information is usually automatically saved by the server software for later analysis and may contain referrer information.
Unfortunately, this is really an inaccurate way to track where your traffic is coming from but it's really the only way to do it. Some problems are with proxy servers and internet security suites that will try to protect your privacy by either blanking out the info, putting fake information in it, or will put a reference to their own company in the referrer value. It can easily be spoofed and/or header information injected.
If you go from one secure website to a non-secure website (an HTTPS linking to an HTTP), it can be purposely blocked too as part of the standard protocol for security purposes. So if you were logged into a website like https: //amazon dot com and you click on a link that goes to http: //meh dot com, you probably will not receive any referrer information.
@Mehrocco_Mole Now, see if we all click your link, we can do it backward, and pornhub will get a bunch of inexplicable hits from a quaint corner of the internet known as meh.com!
Thanks! I like it too!
sweet! now we know how the zerg, err... Koreans are getting here. we're on to you ppomppu!!
@JonT
Maybe it will look better tomorrow when the screen colors are not migraine blue and poo.
@sammydog01 we'll have blue tomorrow, but we're replacing poo with red
@shawn sometimes poo is red!
@brhfl you should really talk to a doctor about that sometime soon.
@shawn Yep, it looks better. It's kind of cool- thanks!
@sammydog01 It does look better with these colors, but I'm still not a fan of the spacing.
@shawn Georgia Red?
Change can be difficult.
(I like statistics)

@brhfl I hate when things get cramped "down there."
@brhfl key is it resets at launch so it's daily/product specific
@snapster No, I get that, I just wondered if that trend really fluctuated that much, or if certain sites just have more users, pay more attention to meh, whatever… thus, how much would it actually change day-to-day.
@brhfl You should check it out at midnight and watch as it fills in. Very interesting to see the trends.
It's also not counting every link. I have come to the site several times by clicking on a link from mehstalker and that is not included in the list.
@cengland0 I've noticed mehstalker.com show up from time to time during internal testing, but pretty rare it's in the top results. We can't show them all because there's hundreds, so we limit to top 10.
@shawn Thanks for the explanation. I thought a site like mehstalker would get more hits because it's sole purpose is for meh users.
@shawn So if we all now go click through to mehstalker and click through back to meh a bunch of times, can we bump it up the list?
@walarney no many how many times you click through from mehstalker, it's only going to count you once.
@harrison
@lichme @shawn FYI, I see that mehstalker was listed for 4/23 and 4/24 (today). I wonder if the mention of it here in the forums caused people to take a look at that site.
Wootstalker is also listed now.
And this stat matters why to most of us why (beyond seeing it once)?
@Kidsandliz Because you are a curious person who wants to know things.
@dashcloud I am a curious person who does not care about this particular thing… beyond seeing it documented once. And perhaps sometime in the future if it changes radically. Beyond that it is just noise.

@PurplePawprints I didn't know I cared until I saw it. Now I know I care, but I'm not sure why.
@Kidsandliz @mikey you care because if you see something crappy selling well you can see if it's being led by a new source. ideally if would also be more clear that clicking through does not take you just to site but to page/entry/post linking to us
... so we can run around and harass people in other communities.
@snapster And there it is... an army of Irks. Trolls from meh, out to piss off the interwebs for our own amusement.
@snapster I understand why the business would care and why you'd be tracking these stats… I was speaking on a personal level.
@Kidsandliz Because your love of redundancy is quite apparent?
@Kidsandliz Maybe if you're the sort of person who looks for deals on the Internet, you aren't bothered by info on where you can find others?
@editorkid Huh? That info on the front page is incoming not outgoing and further isn't an efficient way to search for something specific.
What say Saturday everyone pop over to Pornhub.com just before checking Saturday's offering. Then @snapster, @shawn, @harrison, would have to spend hours and hours searching that site to figure out why.
@Mehrocco_Mole Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's not how the whole tracking thing works for their stats. Thankfully....
@Mehrocco_Mole @PurplePawprints it really doesn't work that way. It's not the last website you were on before accessing meh. @cengland0 Yeah, OK. But...ummm... pornhub.com!
@Mehrocco_Mole Now, see if we all click your link, we can do it backward, and pornhub will get a bunch of inexplicable hits from a quaint corner of the internet known as meh.com!
