Thanks @PolarBear84 for the awesome b-day gift!
27On the mehrican exchange reveal thread we all learned that our friend @PolarBear84 works for NASA. I'm not going to say exactly what he does there, but I CAN say that it involves drawing penises on people's lawns using giant space-laser satellites.
I happened to mention that if he wanted to mail me anything from NASA I'd be super psyched. Guess what, I'm super psyched because yesterday, on my 40th bday, a package arrived containing (pics below):
A NASA sticker
NASA Bumper Sticker "It's Not Rocket Science! (Oh wait, yes it is!)
A NASA mousepad from the future!
A NASA Pin
Astronaut Ice Cream!
Thanks a ton, @Polarbear84! You're awesome, and thanks for the great lawn-penis!

@DaveInSoCal Great Birthday present.
@Polarbear84 You are awesome. Nice Job!

@DaveInSoCal
Love cool space stuff. Have some Sputnik stuff somewhere, I think. Am envious here.
Incredible perfect surprise present!
PS can you send me the Mohawk from Mohawk Guy?
Cool! Love that NASA logo pin
That's awesome man!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! They have a decent range of nifty stuff at the logo store, including my new favorite Hawaiian shirt with the meatball on it! Lol
It was more or less providence that it happened to be your birthday and it couldn't have worked out better!
Even more amazing than the penis lazer satellite is the one I had to use prior to beam down the fertilizer and water to give you green grass I could burn a wang into. Lololol
Happy Birthday Dave!!
@polarbear84 You're awesome, what a nice thing to do! I'd love to see a pic of you and your new favorite shirt!
@polarbear84 Is the logo store sort of an employee store or something entirely different? How does the merchandise there compare to the KSC gift shops?
@jbartus The logo store up here at Langley is open to Center visitors as well, anyone who is on property, so it's not just employees or contractors. I'm impressed with the variety of things they have here.
Tshirts, polos are different varieties, sweatshirts, heavy jackets, bags, glasses of almost any kind (wine, stemmed or stemless, mason jars, shot glasses, pitchers, flutes, flasks, you name it.) There's tons of desk supply stuff as well like folders, pins, lanyards, its a wide, wide variety of things. The prices aren't bad, some stuff can be expensive, but the quality is high, it seems like to me.
@polarbear84 sounds like some overlap but worth a look-see. Are there tours at Langley or what is the deal with visiting? KSC is kind of like Disney World as far as the number of tours offered goes.
@jbartus LaRC doesn't do guided tours like KSC does as far as I'm aware, it's more of residents that sponsor people as guests than a public touring system. We do way more aerodynamics and aeroacoustics research than public space work which is considered the "sexy" part of NASA i guess. I mean, it's all science but schoolkids apparently don't have the same kind of zeal to see an acoustics chamber.
Not to say that we don't do tours, it's just a more private center than KSC is.
@polarbear84 so, if I wanted to tour LaRC, how would I go about arranging such?
@jbartus i could reach out to the pr people and find out. I'm sure they do tours, i just havent dug too deeply into it.
@polarbear84 I have a personal mission to tour as many NASA facilities as I can in my life. VA is actually practical for a short couple day trip as opposed to somewhere like Texas where I'd have to do like a week trip to make it worthwhile overall :P
@mehbee
Also, @jbartus, I gave a ring today to one of the PR specialists I've worked with here but haven't heard back yet. apparently we do have tours, they're just more infrequent than KSC. At worst, we're doing a LOT of stuff next year for LaRC's centennial, including a big open house on October 17th, 2017. I'll let you know as soon as i hear back.
@polarbear84 nice shirt.
Thanks for checking this out, I appreciate it! :D I might have to mosey down there next October otherwise.
@polarbear84 Looking good! I see why it’s a favorite.
@polarbear84 anything going on 6/14ish? Maybe 6/15?
@jbartus I checked with the PR people and we actually have an event coming up in August called “Youth Day” where they have facility tours available, Im checking more into it now, actually.
I have a few friends who’d love a chance to see more of LaRC and none of us qualify as “youth” anymore. lol Ill let you know what I hear back,
probably on Monday.
But nothing on the 14th or 15th, sorry.
@polarbear84 ah well, figured it was worth a shot as I’ll be passing through
@Pavlov Im not entirely sure whether I like it or hate it. It's weird to eat, for sure.
@polarbear84 It's still on our coffee table. Haven't broken into it yet. I'll report back once we brave it.
@Pavlov really cool video, thanks for sharing it!
@Pavlov @polarbear84
NASA conspiracies are awesome in my mind.
@DaveInSoCal Happy belated 40th!
@mehbee thanks!
How many USB ports? Is it better than my vitamix? I want a blender than I can run with my Windows phone app. Something I can set to go off at 5 am M-F. I want to wake up to my breakfast smoothie
@jmendenhall I think you took a wrong turn somewhere.
@jmendenhall Now I have the overwhelming urge to watch you blend astronaut ice cream if you get one of these blenders.
(If you get that blender, I swear to you, I'll send you ice cream to put in it.)
It looks like I did. I blame accessing the site on my mobile and my refusal to read thread titles.
